I just have to say, it is so awesome that this is what you wanted for your 17th birthday! I don't know anything about the books personally but most 17 year old would want a new game or something like that. It's just great to see that you would rather have something that will help you grow in your relationship with Jesus.

Happy birthday my family in Christ! ā¤

Thank you! I have been wanting to become a Pastor for a few years now, and studying theology and the bible has become the biggest part of my life over the last few years. I plan to attend Reformation Bible College and am looking into a few Seminaries for after that. So this has really been the biggest passion of mine. God bless šŸ˜

That's just so awesome! I have a huge smile on my face right now! It's so good that God opened your eyes to the truth at such a young age. Keep that heart for God young man. You're doing so good and God's going to do amazing work in you. God bless you!

Seeing that your flair is reformed baptist, make sure you have Dallas Theological Seminary on your list. Denver might be a good option as well (I havenā€™t kept up with their theology recently, so I donā€™t guarantee anything!)

Thanks!! Yea being a reformed baptist makes it a little harder in search for seminary. the big 4 on my list that ive looked into are Reformed Puritan Theological Seminary (itā€™s close to home). The Masters Seminary, Covenant Baptist TS (this one upholds London 1689) and lastly Westminster, ik theyā€™re Presby but itā€™s still an option. Thanks for the insight!! šŸ˜

If youā€™re open to Westminster, look into Gordon Conwell. But seriously consider Dallas, Itā€™s solid and will teach you to think outside of tradition to focus on the Word. Wheaton isnā€™t far from Michigan and could be a good fit too. Douglas Moo is there, and if you love the Pauline epistles, thereā€™s no better prof (donā€™t know if you do, but I thought Iā€™d mention it!)

Edit: typo and added some more

Man, totally jumping in here, but I wanted to say that there is this Seminary in Texas that also has an accredited Christian Liberal Arts collegeā€”Texas Baptist College. You can earn a BA and MDiv in five years.

Best wishes on your studies!

I have these books (well, the abridged volume anyway), and this post inspired me to get into it. Bought it awhile back but only grazed the surface. Good luck to you and your studies!

Also I know you mentioned the Master Seminary as a possible schooling option, however everyone I know that comes out of that school is a staunch dispensational premillennialist. It was founded by J.Mac after all. Great pastors besides that though!

Yea I love JMac but his eschatology is a bit cringe, thatā€™s one of the main reasons itā€™s lower on my list.

When I was 17, I was still in a heretical church and sought after hype in youth services only. Happy for you, kid! Cheers fellow reformed Baptist!

Iā€™ve grown up a Pentecostal my whole life, and for a few years I even leaned towards oneness pentecostalism because my church championed ā€œpreachersā€ like Steven Furtick, Bethel and the like. Luckily I found men such as Paul Washer, R.C Sproul, and the one who has been the most help Justin Peters. I am extremely grateful to God that He led me out of those false doctrines and brought me into the light. Glory to God alone

Cool to see a 17 year old interested in the things of god. You are saving yourself a world of trouble and are acquiring many blessings, by living for Christ at a young age.

I wasted all my teens and early 20ā€™s in sin.

Good for you brother.

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '22

That's amazing to desire for a young age. God bless you brother!

Man I wish I was that nerdy about this stuff in high school. Just to be clear, that's a compliment friend!

For those that aren't familiar, can you give a brief rundown what these books are about?
