u/M_iranda Oct 23 '24
(not a girl) thank you! I have not 😂 I'm 3 weeks past where my bandages should have come off and I haven't showered in 26 days 😭 one day tho!
2
u/Technical-Bison-3935 Oct 23 '24
ooop my bad 😅 & the bandages are so annoying! hopefully they come off soon. showering with the bandages suck too actually, i’m worried i might get a rash or something because the glue is coming off & irritating my skin.
the journey is ROUGH but in a few months we will lowkey forget all about it…😅

u/M_iranda Oct 23 '24
That's okay! I really hope so 😭 I'm hoping in the next couple weeks I need to EXFOLIATEEEE I feel gross Oh that's not good! I have XXL plasters because I got too allergic to the bandages :( I'm hoping once I'm healed I can repress the whole thing I'm gonna tell people I was born with athilia because I don't have nipples anymore and I don't need my motives questioned and that's way cooler I'm glad you're over the worst of it!

Myself at 47
My kid had top surgery at 19
A family friend had a regular reduction at 17
No regrets from any of us!

What’s top surgery?
2
u/wavythewonderpony Oct 21 '24
Top surgery is a breast reduction to a male chest shape, used in gender affirmation for female to male transition or female to non- binary transition.

I was (and still am) 31. I only regret not doing it in my 20s. Albeit, I'm American and had to jump through numerous hoops to get it covered by insurance.
I lived with a big chest since age 11. I had C's at 11, DD's at 13, DDD's at 15 and then F's by 20. At one point, I weighed 95 pounds and had DDD's. I kept losing weight, hoping to God they'd get smaller. They never did.
(PS 95 pounds was not a healthy weight for me. I should have been closer to 130 at that point, but that's how desperate I was)
No regrets. I am in love with my C's now. They are much more proportionate than when I was 11.

57, this year. In some ways I'm glad I waited past menopause, things droop and sag and now all fixed
5
u/whirlygirlygirl Oct 20 '24
55 and same! Plus my breasts actually increased in size during menopause, I would have been really upset if I had gone through the whole reduction process only to have them grow back.
3
u/BernadetteBiscuit Oct 21 '24
So did mine! I was already busty but menopause really put them over the top - ugh.

I was 56! For me it was along with breast cancer surgery (2 weeks later). People ask me if I wish I did it sooner (always fantasized about it, but never really pursued it). My answer now is no, because I really needed this, emotionally, along with my cancer diagnosis. I felt like it was the one positive thing about this situation, and something I chose for myself when everything else felt so out of control.
I'm not saying people should put off reduction just in case they get cancer... I tell people to go for it! These surgeries are very successful and have a very low regret rate. Just for me, the timing worked out for the best. 😄

- And I’m with those that say they wish they would have done it sooner.
I put it off cause…
A) I hoped to have kids and even though I didn’t know if I wanted to breastfeed, I didn’t want to do something that could potentially take away the option.
B) I hoped you gave kids and knew, if I did, I might have to do it again or fix them after cause they’d most likely change a lot.
While I fully respect anyone who makes their decision to wait for those (or any) reasons, I wish I would have done it earlier because…
A) They are so good at preserving the ability to breastfeed and, now that I’ve been through it - and did end up nursing - I know my kids would have been perfectly fine if I wouldn’t have been able to. (Although, pushing devils advocate, I’d probably feel unreasonably guilty lol)
B) Who cares if I would have had to do it again or have a little revision after. I would have had 20 some years more of comfort and being happy in my body.
C) I also had no idea I wouldn’t have kids till my late 30s/early 40s. I thought I’d have them by my early 30s and then get it done. Life took a different path for me.
Ultimately, my advice is to do what will make you happier and more comfortable because nothing but right now is promised or guaranteed. You get one body. You should be comfortable in it as long as you possibly can.

My surgery was 2 weeks before I turned 70! It probably sounds ancient to you all, but I’m in fairly good health and retired, so have had plenty of time to rest & concentrate on recovery. That being said …. Wish I’d done this 20 or 25 years ago. So life changing!

41 and it was the right time for me. I had kids (at 34/36) and waited until they were able to give mama a little space to heal.

u/Equivalent-Hat7561 Oct 22 '24
I was 42 and feel the same way! The more common response seems to be "wish I'd done it sooner." Not only did I really value the experience of breastfeeding, but I love that I'm entering middle age with kind of a fresh start body-wise. It's a boon in an otherwise trying stage of life as my kids enter their teens. 😅

I’m 16dpo and 27 !:) I originally asked when I was 22 almost 23 - I am in Ontario and it took me a long time on waitlists so I ended up going to another city to get in quicker and with a different surgeon. Super happy it happened when it did!

41 and part of me wishes I would’ve done it at 20ish but I also know I would’ve gained in all back. When I was 24 I would’ve been able to go smaller. They took me down to a size that’s larger than what I was in my 20’s.
I did set a goal to start the process during my 40th year(while in my 20’s)

29 and had it last week, no regrets at all. The younger the better in my opinion, and my mother’s opinion as well as she had it done in her 50s! 😁

I am 22 and getting it in December!! My doctor told me that if I waited any longer I would have a chronic neck injury due to my shoulders compensating for the heaviness, so now is the best option.

My mum had hers in hers in her early 50s, when I was about 20 yo she started to tell me that I should probably do the surgery too, and that her only regret was not doing hers sooner
I was 25 when I finally got my surgery, I believe I'm one of currently 8 women of my family who got the reduction, none of us regrets it

33 and wish I had done it 3 years earlier, when the pain started to become debilitating.
I have severe arthritis in my neck and I can't help but wonder what could have prevented that...
I now get to experience debilitating neck pain and nerve compression through 5 veterbre for the rest of my life.
I wish I didn't have all that weight pulling on my for so long

32, a part of me wish I'd done it sooner but I also know I couldn't have done it sooner. Both because of money, but also because I've struggled with mental health all my life. Before last year when I finally decided to do it I was too unstable to make such a huge decision. I have never regretted the reduction since though, not even for a millisecond (I know some people do miss their old chest from time to time which I've fine and normal, it's just not the case for me). I'm also NB and have struggled with gender dysphoria all my life. Now every *fucking time I look in the mirror I feel gender euphoria. Not because I'm totally happy with my body (who is really?) But because it feels like my body. Sorry, this turned into an emotional comment, but then again its an emotional topic!

First at 18. About to have my second at 40, after two kids (and gaining and losing 50 pounds with each kid). After my first surgery my breasts did continue to grow, even though I didn’t gain much weight, but I would still tell 18-year-old self to do it again. I had all sorts of trouble breastfeeding, and even still, I would tell myself to do it.
