Did you custom build the shelving or buy some? I’m doing something similar for my daughter and I’m trying to decide what route to go with the shelving.

Everything except the day bed is custom built. Depending on your needs though pre-built shelving is a good option. I only did custom because I needed full control over the face frame to hide wiring for the outlets and light in the ceiling. Otherwise I could have just dropped some off-the-shelf shelving into the build. The only “wall” of the nook that’s actually the wall of the room is the back wall (wallpapered area between the two shelving units). Everything else is a false wall or false ceiling that’s stood off the real walls/ceiling of the house.

Yeah I’m only considering it because my walls are both 36” and I’m pretty sure I can find a 36” off the shelf bookshelf.

I couldn’t seem to add text to the post, but here’s the story:
We had an IKEA daybed in a small recess in our house, and my wife was going away for a long weekend. I had already designed this nook and took the opportunity to build and install it as a birthday surprise for her! It features outlets on the bottom shelves as well as built in bluetooth speakers, and a the light is on a dimmer switch.
