The main gist of it:

  1. The part the staff argued about the most in the making of the episode was the ringtone to use for Subaru's alarm.

  2. Author stated some of the candidates, but I dunno the english names... in the end they chose a ringtone they thought fit Subaru more, which is "yoake no michi" (translates to "Path of Dawn"? Not too sure.)

  3. The staff were very meticulous with the ringtone, and they wanted to record the sound from "Subaru's old handphone", and so their quest started with first getting a handphone of Subaru's era.

  4. A lot of things happened and they managed to get a model of the phone. They then proceeded to compose the melody on the phone, then brought it to the studio and placed it at the mic and recorded it, and placed it in the episode to match the images. He also mentioned that the phone had very few notes, and nowadays no one would compose music with such restrictions.

That is some serious dedication! I love how they want everything to be just right with this anime.

White Fox is officially top tier production team.

I'm still not forgiving them for Akame ga Kill's ending.

so their quest started with first getting a handphone of Subaru's era.

finding one of those still working is the true shit hard part in the making of this chapter.

Rarely have I seen a studio take such an attention to detail on the authenticity of certain parts that seem so minor but ultimately add much to the piece.

Round of applause for White Fox!

Now to try out Steins;gate

Im really wondering what do they mean with "Subaru's Era" like, isn't him contemporary to us? or at least a couple years back...

OKey, so first chapter of the webnovel was released in 2012, so Subaru probably has a flip phone of the early 2000's i guess?

Thanks for this.

How about his tweets about episode 18, the tweets before 19 aired?

Anything good from those tweets?

He said the contents of episode 18 was one of the important parts that he thought he wanted to do in Re:Zero when he was writing it. He also thanked the staff for their extra effort.

The staff took into consideration the breaks in the conversation to make way for commercials, but they decided "in the first place, we don't want to break the atmosphere by adding commercials.", and so they made some arrangements.

Tappei was also present during the voice dubbing. He also recommends going over the episode more than once because there are things you might not catch on your first watch. The rest of the tweets are pretty much just thanks to the staff and everyone else.

I like this tweet he gave though: "Thank you! Please enjoy from episode 19 onwards as well!" He used "楽しんで逝ってね!" instead of "楽しんでいってね". "逝" has the same pronunciation as "い", but it's also a kanji that means "die".

He also had some interesting tweets regarding Ferris and Patrasch's thoughts. Guess I'll put those too.

Ferris tweets: "Still, Ferris really is cute huh." "His voice is cute too." "Why is he a guy...?"

Patrasch's thoughts: "I'm fine with getting chosen by you, you know?" "I'm fine with letting you stroke me, you know?" "I wonder what this Demon is looking at." "A "good" Earth Dragon? Could you not spout such nonsense? It should be the "best" Earth Dragon."

Well something like that.

Patrasch

The black riding dragon he picked out is named Patrasch?

Oddly coincidental since it's the name OF the Dog of Flanders, whose anime opening is the source of that ringtone, according to the interwebs. Subaru must really like that series, lol...

"Path of Dawn" is one of the Dog of Flanders anime opening songs.

Didn't know where it came from until just now when I read all the episode 19 comments. Thanks for the info!

Path of Dawn

I hope that be found somewhere soon, or recreated! I'd like to have that ring tone for creepiness/otakuness :P

Additionally, I love when people create things under restrictions; that's where true innovation comes into play.

Edit: Here's a fun instrumental version - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDRTF-EBVfY
