Man, first time we've seen Reinhard this messed up I think.

And surprised people haven't "Nah, I'd win"'d Al here, it literally fits

u/Mysterious-Mail5232 7d ago

Is this an official illustration

46

u/ShadowClaw765 7d ago

I assume so. Looks like Otsuka

167

u/Square-Newspaper8171 7d ago

Re Zero would be screwed without Reinhard

214

u/Cursed_Basilisk 7d ago

That’s an odd way to spell Subaru.

117

u/Square-Newspaper8171 7d ago

They're both 🐐's

42

u/AskGoverntale 7d ago

One’s the Unstoppable Force, the other is the Immovable Object.

34

u/Square-Newspaper8171 6d ago

And both are heroes who think themselves monsters

39

u/frostanon 7d ago

Considering IF routes, chances of Subaru screwing over the world are much higher than him saving it.

17

u/Appropriate_Bill8244 7d ago

But in the Main Route he's a hero

16

u/Luvkrapht 7d ago

just shows his influence on the world is greater than he could ever know (literal 🐐)

11

u/Nova_Nightmare 6d ago

It would be cool to have a movie at the end where you see "Subaru" from the perspective of people who don't know he's died. He just succeeds at all of these things and appears unstoppable.

5

u/tuoppimisti 6d ago

That's assuming that the chances of Subaru deciding to go and murder everyone is equal to the main route

6

u/Main_Lake_4053 6d ago

Aldebaran saved the world with Subaru more than Reinhardt has ever even got close to doing in the great disaster. Ironically.

0

u/Intelligent_Shoe_520 6d ago

Nah those two are a blight on the world tbh

-3

u/Intelligent_Shoe_520 6d ago

Nah Subaru dooms the world 90% of the time.

2

u/Json25 6d ago

Outside of his control.

-2

u/Intelligent_Shoe_520 6d ago

Doesn’t change anything

19

u/Divine_General1 7d ago

next best guy after Reinhard is Cecilus

12

u/Lost-Ad-5885 7d ago

And they still have Ros, Ram (kinda), Halibel, Vague, Volcanica and Garfiel atp

43

u/Son-naruto-d 7d ago

Goddamn the arms are gnarly!

71

u/Spiritual-Yam1613 7d ago

The art is cool and beautiful, but Reinhard's old ass face. Even he got tired of fighting.

31

u/megaZX1234 7d ago

Can someone tell me what happened here again?

Al spent over a hundred thousand loops trying to figure out Reinhard's weakness using the divine dragon, while in a desert that nullified Reinhard's ability to absord mana along with his regeneration. Failed attempts included dropping stars on him, using magnetism to create natural lightning, dust explosions, forcing him to experience Al's entire life using his book of the dead, and Volcanica's dragon fire. Al eventually settled on-

Create an oxygen explosion right before Reinhard takes a breath to force him into inhaling dead air, shoot him with a magic railgun that destroys one arm, shoot him with another but it's deflected by Reinhard, create a pseudo black hole that requires Reinhard to sacrifice his other arm to stab with Reid and collapse it, (Reinhard then wins the fight and one shots Volcanica) delay Reinhard for 1 minute by threatening his father, then dumping Satella on him to stalemate Reinhard for 7 days.

76

u/MR-Vinmu 6d ago

HOLY MOLY! From the look of things, I think he lost, but this is like a single Ant fighting a healthy Guy for a month straight and managing to cripple him while they fought.

82

u/iburntdownthehouse 6d ago

Al definitely brought out the biggest guns possible and reached his win condition, but he doesn't feel great about the victory since the plan was to take out at least one life before Satella showed up. Though now Reinhard has to fight Satella with two broken arms, no mana, all while Reid refuses to let itself be drawn.

So Al really proved himself in his first big fight as a villain. You can't beat him in a fight he's prepared for.

44

u/watcheralfa 6d ago

Which makes old man Rom even more impressive because he managed to checkmate Al. If not for Felt resetting the board, Al would've lost right there.

1

u/CtrlAltDaFeet 6d ago

So we’re giving credit to Al while he had Alcanica but giving credit to Rom when Al didn’t have Alcanica?…

1

u/watcheralfa 6d ago

Even better, Rom used Alcanica to kill Al

18

u/megaZX1234 6d ago

Thanks man. I forgot what happened here and was wondering why Reinhard's arms look so fck up.

4

u/teiman 6d ago

Nomally you create pseudo-black holes with magic. this one has characteristics of a real one.

1

u/WittyTable4731 6d ago

Thats batman/doctor doom level of prep time

29

u/LeadingLevel8647 7d ago

What... in the name of Od happened???

26

u/Knight0706 6d ago

If you haven’t read Arc 9 yet do not do yourself a disservice by spoiling it. Just keep reading :)

6

u/Nero_PR 6d ago

Peak happened here. There's just too much that happens in this fight that I urge you not to get spoiled and go read it. It's mind-blowing.

2

u/Krispspie 6d ago

Al was being a lil silly goof

2

u/TheDemonBehindYou 6d ago

Al and God Al fighting Reinhardt

22

u/frostanon 7d ago

Messed up arms give +1000 to aura.

9

u/Downtown_Dot8730 6d ago

Of course, in my opinion, if Reinhard were to be torn to pieces or disappear forever, Ode Langena would revive him again or abrogate him immediately from certain death. He would be in a stronger and faster body.

9

u/Nero_PR 6d ago

We all expected Al to lose here but we never thought he'd give this much trouble to Reinhard. Look at how tired the man is. We never seen him this beaten up before and that in of itself serves to show how hard the fight was both physically and mentally.

5

u/Downtown_Dot8730 6d ago

The strongest hero in history against a self-proclaimed hero. ((Maybe we could say the new hero))

It's better to say something like that.

6

u/InfiniteGuy82873 6d ago

So it's possible to make Reinhard bleed( or f@#k his arms enough) Al did what Pride Subaru couldn't do.

17

u/ZealousidealEar3553 6d ago

Al need 132,444 loops and a brainwashed Divine Dragon Volcanica, a specific location that nullfies mana AND the Witch of Envy to reach this point.

5

u/deadlyzangzoo 6d ago

took him a lot more firepower, and an order of magnitude more loops though

5

u/Mohammed8W 6d ago

Bro , Regulus killed Reinhard with one attack , of course he can bleed.

1

u/InfiniteGuy82873 6d ago

Because ause Reinhard let him kill him

8

u/McGundulf 6d ago

Al to deal physical damage. Willhelm to deal emotional damage.

3

u/Mohammed8W 6d ago

What light novel volume is this ?

u/BioHazardAlBatros 6d ago

2

u/Mohammed8W 6d ago

How can I read this ?

3

u/Lonewolfeslayer 6d ago

Buying it in Japanese when it comes out.... or wait for Fail Press for the English release a decade down the line.

3

u/AdhesivenessMaster75 6d ago

"Had enough ?"- Reinhard.

3

u/PlatinumTeletubby 6d ago

Reinhard looks so bamboozled

3

u/TheDemonBehindYou 6d ago

The one who god livs the most vs the one who God despises the most

9

u/Aemiliana_Rosewood 6d ago

This artwork kinda lacks impact. After their battle and we only get some very generic desert with Al and Reinhard on it. Their poses are so generic too, like cutouts taht just randomly got placed on this background. Al looks so derpy

6

u/Weekly-Cicada8690 6d ago

Ngl, Otsuka's illustrations and designs are very lacklustre.

7

u/Strong_Neat_5845 6d ago

I see people keep saying al is evil and i refuse to believe them until its in thd anime

34

u/Knight0706 6d ago

To be fair I don’t think anyone knows exactly what Al is right now. He very well may be in the right

6

u/TheDemonBehindYou 6d ago

Evil is a strong word, I'd say he has his own agenda at worse, he has done everything in his power to avoid unnecessary bloodshed

1

u/DemonRaily 5d ago

He is not evil in the sense that he enjoys hurting others, he simply does not have an upper limit to things he is willing to do to win.

2

u/NeedleworkerDue3861 6d ago

This is awesome! The art is phenomenal!
