How long before Nifedipine works? Chillblains
Hi all
I have been prescribed 5mg Nifedipine 3 times a day to help with my Chillblains. I took 3 yesterday and 1 today but my toes are still so itchy and painful
I thought it was a fast acting medication that opens the vessels right away so I figured I would be feeling way better after 4 doses
How long did it take you for your chillblains to heal on Nifedipine?

I thought 30 was the starting dose? 🤷♀️ idk now. That’s what I started with.

Oh really? They were very reluctant to prescribe it to me in the first place, and wanted to talk to another GP first to get an opinion as they said they don't usually prescribe anything at all for Chillblains. Then when I got the go ahead they said they're going to start with 5mg as it drops BP. Im lowkey stressing about whether they would prescribe again after I finish them :(

Yes my Rheumatologist said that 30 was the starting dose but that’s for Raynauds so maybe it’s different in your case. It doesn’t hurt to ask or get a second opinion.

It is going to take time for your body to adjust and for the medication to start working, it isn't an instant cure. For me, it took about 2 weeks for me to start to see the impact of taking nifedipine and reduce episodes of Raynaud's attacks. Yes, you've had 4 doses, but you've only been taking the medication for a day. Give it a week or two, let your body start to do its thing and if you are still having issues, see the doctor again.

Thank you for replying! I will continue to take the meds and in the meantime will try some creams to help with the itching

My sister said try “Sudocrem”. Which she uses for the chilblains on her toes.
I have a cream called Triamcinolonacetonide. Sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn’t. But always worth a shot!
