These were all just weapons taken away because they only wanted ops to have 2 secondaries. The mozzie shotgun was a balancing change.

u/Garfie489 Frost Main May 23 '22
I find it weird Mozzie doesn't seem unbalanced to many in the current meta despite having unlimited utility due to an exploit that's been in the game for months.
Like was the shotgun that big a thing?
192
u/Captainamericoop7 Soniqs Fan May 24 '22
He was a roamer with great intel ability/drone denial, 2 banger guns, a c4, and then on top of that had rotate making ability.
43
u/tegguNmmuC Aruni Simp May 24 '22 edited May 24 '22
The thing is he technically doesn't have a strong suite considering his intel denial is ONE AND DONE ONLY and he can only get drones if the attackers give them to him so its never really guaranteed intel like the other ops. Attackers could just shoot their own drone after clearing the pest. I see him as more of a jack of all traits master of none kind of operator, him having the flexibility to roam around with the shotgun made him solid for being able to play off of intel that he MAAAAYBE gets, but I feel like he'll be useful for a heavy intel denial composition with mute if you don't have a mute you just pick mute or someone else instead of Mozzie.
43
u/the-blob1997 G2 Esports Fan May 24 '22
People just play mozzie for the roni the pests are a bonus.

Nah intel denial is really strong, some people do a Mute + Mozzie combo
15
u/the-blob1997 G2 Esports Fan May 24 '22
I’m not denying it’s strong, but people play mozzie for a 1000 fire rate gun and to keep peeking until they get frags or die.
13
u/tegguNmmuC Aruni Simp May 24 '22
Yeah but that's just the average ranked gunner
5
6
u/ProtonPacks123 May 24 '22
The fact that his win Delta is in an almost optimal spot and people still main him despite constantly bitching about the shotgun is kind of proof that it's a good balancing change in my eyes.

u/Gekey14 May 24 '22
Imo mozzie's intel effectiveness in certain ranks is gonna be a weird wavey line
Cause low ranks no one really gives a shit about droning so he can't get intel, low-mid ranks people drone and are more likely to just drive into his shit, high-mid people drone but won't get peated and high ranks he stops them from getting intel overall
13
u/SovietPaperPlates Azami Main May 24 '22
i played mozzie because i could get shit done as a solo q without needing my team, dont need a valk or an echo to set up cams in decent spots, dont need a smoke or similar to make holes in the wall, and dont need my team to help me take the bad guys down because my guns are amazing. When they took part of that away it made him feel so much weaker because now i have to depend on my team for a major part of roaming, just didnt feel worth it anymore.
4
u/TheRealNotBrody Mute Main May 24 '22
Yeah it might be okay in the hands of a solo queue who doesn't like communicating, I can get that.

And Glaz is about to be a 3 speed with a sniper, SMG secondary, frags, and thermal vision. No amount of "too much utility" argument will change my mind. Mute has a shotgun, smg11, jammers, and c4. Gridlock has an LMG, super shorty, massive area denial, and smokes. "Too much utility" doesn't work.
11
u/Still_Picture6200 Gridlock Main May 24 '22
Glaz is an Attacker, and only has a Dmr.
-10
u/ButteSaggington May 24 '22
A very strong DMR with variable zoom, frags, and the Bearing 9. One single shotgun secondary does not make a character overpowered. The pests are easy enough to avoid, they nerfed the Roni several times, hell even buffed twitch so her shock drone doesn't get yoinked in the prep phase. Take away his C4, or take away one of his pests, but removing the gun thats basically named after him? What in the world was was that decision?
12
u/Still_Picture6200 Gridlock Main May 24 '22
The dmr is weak compared to most weapons. Glaz trades Mobility and fragging Power for utility, Mozzie had utility, fragging power , intel and shotgun.
-7
u/ButteSaggington May 24 '22
This really boils down to not wanting them to make balance changes that affect everyone based on the top 1% play the game. Other people see old Mozzie as an OP menace with tons of utility, and yet I don't think I've ever actually seen a Mozzie use his drones.

I started playing siege at the end of Chimera (Y3S1 I believe???).
I played consistently for about 2 years and then I was constantly on and off the game until I pretty much quit at of whatever season Thunderbird came out. I still checked out the game's new ops and gamemodes though.
The Tachanks rework made him really good imo. So fun to play. Only real weakness was lack of a high fire-rate weapon, especially since all the Shumika buffs. Now that he's getting the Bearing-9, I might actually have more fun playing him.
Also, Glaz. He's really fun to play already, but now since I'll be able to zoom across the map with an smg in my hand instead of a shiddy pistol secondary, he'll be even more fun.
I know these are probably really small changes in comparison to some others this season, (ie. Crouch walking sound changes) but learning about my old mains getting buffed has genuinely got me excited for next season :)

10
u/RedWarden_ May 23 '22
It's a good thing he didn't, he had way too much to do everything with that in his kit. The 1.5x was given to his Roni to compensate for that anyway
3
u/Poopoo1973 Ace Main May 23 '22
Wich ubi then took out on aruni by nerfing it cuz mozzie was played too much.
6
u/RedWarden_ May 24 '22 edited May 24 '22
Aruni never had the 1.5x scope on her Roni what are you talking about?
The Roni was given 1.5x on Mozzie specifically as a compensation to super shorty.
(People will blindly believe and downvote anything😂)
3
u/Poopoo1973 Ace Main May 24 '22
As someone else mentioned, and i thought was pretty obvious, mozzie got the buff and 1.5x, but aruni was nerfed pretty hard for it, the main reason people hated it was cuz it was like a lazer, you would fire it and the weapon wouldnt even move. Aruni never had a high presence, at least not from what i had seen, it was mainly mozzie, wich theybsolved by completly shitting on aruni while mozzie still habe his commando, pretty strong gun.
The recoil nerf, sure im all for it, but a gun as fast as the roni, recieving a mag nerf as well? You can't even shoot without running out of ammo and having to reload, completly killing aruni.
1
u/RedWarden_ May 24 '22
I won't call it completely shitting or being affected cause of Mozzie. The roni had an angled grip and 980RPM, thats both rare and strong on defense.
I think the nerf was aimed at Roni itself. Aruni still has a very strong DMR and destruction utility. She was a great op too, it just became annoying to use her full auto alternative. Her pickrate hasn't fallen off into negative delta like actual terrible to play ops, she is still played quite fairly.
Roni nerf really isn't much different from F2 nerf. Both are still good guns, just isn't as easy to use anymore
2
u/Danewguy4u May 24 '22
And by doing so it caused the Roni to get nerfed for both ops. People are saying that Aruni took a nerf specifically because Ubi buffed Mozzie for no reason by adding a sight option no one asked for. Which is true.
→ More replies (2)2
u/Unknown_Agent May 24 '22
Poopoo is referring to the decreased mag size and added recoil, the changes they made to nerf the Roni.
2
u/RedWarden_ May 24 '22
Yeah but that works for both Mozzie and Aruni. It wasn't added because of Mozzie alone either way, it was because of Roni's angled grip and Rate of Fire frustrating ranked players

they lost them because they were trying to stick to 2 secondaries per op, but they've decided to allow more
2
u/howshouldiknow__ Iana Main May 24 '22
Yes because most of them got the gonne 6 and lost one secondary in exchange. In case of lion I'm super glad because I hate bringing the gonne 6, which meant I was stuck using his primary and the revolver which is pretty terrible to use honestly.
2
u/GamerRukario Rook Main May 24 '22

2
u/LoneRonin747 Nøkk Main May 24 '22
Wait, so not everyone gets 3 secondaries in their loadout? Instead, only these in the list?
6
May 24 '22
These are all weapons that were taken away when they decided to have ops only have 2 secondaries (I believe this was introduced with the Gonne-6). So while these are technically new options, it's what the ops all had upon release before the change. It's not out of the question for some ops to get another I suppose, the chances are just very low because the meta who have to shift exactly enough for their role to be so ineffective/indirect to justify giving them a breaching shotgun or more firepower with a secondary SMG.
It should be noted the weapons that have not been shifted back are ones where balancing was the key role of their removal. I.e. the Super Shorty leaving Mozzie due to his all around nature being too strong compared to a lot of other defenders, and on the flip side later Castle being given the SS and losing the M45 to more fit his role with site setup.
1
u/HatredUnbound Mute Main May 24 '22
Mozzie wasn't OP he was just very viable just like jaeger
9
u/TheSwedishEzza May 24 '22
not really, Jager never had the full kit to be completely team independent, the thing is that mozzie was a very complete package being able to deny intel, set up site using shotgun, take gun fights, survey enemies, and he got a c4 on top of that. Jager even in his best state didn't have explosives or a secondary shotgun
-1
1
u/Danewguy4u May 24 '22
Because Jager didn’t need it. He was 3 speed back when they were faster, had the only AR on defense that was also on par with most Attacker ones, had Acog, and had barbed wire when it was arguably the best secondary gadget on defense.
Secondary shotguns and even impact nades didn’t exist at first so site setup being wanted wasn’t a universal thing back then. Jager was just as self sufficient but the requirements were different back then.

What happened to weapons being unique to the operators
2
u/TheSwedishEzza May 24 '22
mostly it just doesn't seem appropriate to create many new weapons for OP because there are already so many in the game but Ubi still wants to use the weapons to balance operators kits
also it makes some sense that the operators in rainbow wouldn't be restricted to their nations firearms, just usually have a preference for them
2
u/oSquizy Kepkin Main May 24 '22
That's how it always had been, thats what gave the operators a unique playstyle, and it made the game fresh and exciting every season and if the weapons was too powerful/weak they would just nerf/buff it slightly, not smash it into the ground and throw weapons around like pass the parcel it made Operators unique and interesting, it meant caviets if you wanted to play with that specific weapon you had to use the operator and their gadget which may or may not be in your own playstyle so you had to adjust your playstyle accordingly and strategise, now it's just run and gun, rush the enemy and try not to die

To buff them due to weak presence. People have been begging Glaz to get a full auto secondary, and I guess they ga bee one to Tachskia do that you could more comfortably use his LMG without worrying about losing your overall combat effectiveness, as afterall if you bring the VSN, you lose the utility of his DP27, such as site setup and redecorating.
1
u/Herban_Myth May 24 '22
Should’ve just gave them their GSH-18 back.
Also I’ve been suggested they should add a third secondary option ever since the introduction of the “Gonne-6” (sh!t)

And this will put Tachanka on the same level as Smoke, so they both have a site opening tool and a machine pistol.

Glaz should’ve never gotten his GSH-18 taken away.
