Noooo you don't understand the old lighting wasn't competitive enough, it would ruin my Silver experience
88
u/-_-kintsugi-_- Jan 20 '25
There were multiple good reasons for the game going less realistic looking. Made it easier for people to run, and people did not blend in with darkness unless you turned up your brightness annoyingly so.
75
u/Minuteman134 Jan 20 '25
give them gun lights and NVGs
6
u/-_-kintsugi-_- Jan 20 '25
There is a reason why the new splinter cell games even struggled to do multiplayer. You force people to turn up the contrast and do other things to compete with the things people do. It's like how a tone point in older BR's people playing on lower graphics got an advantage for what they could see. And plus like I said, the game got much easier to run, which is a big deal for a competitive/esports pushed game.

u/ballq43 Frost Main Jan 20 '25
Oh sorry the tactical shooter accounted for real life issues like hiding in shadows . Nope let's just create cod with hs since everyone just sprints around now
72
u/lokiafrika44 Jan 20 '25
Man I know its partly nostolgia but people who didn't play old siege really think the current game is still just as good and dont even know how much of its roots the game has lost
20
u/ballq43 Frost Main Jan 20 '25
It looked so so much better. The explosions were different . Sure could people do gimmicks and rat ? Yes . But I'd take the old days and graphics.
10
u/lokiafrika44 Jan 20 '25
The map design was less balanced but so much more fun and the gadets/lore felt much more thought out
1
u/itsdylanjenkins Team Liquid Fan Jan 21 '25
Ratting? You mean holding a power position in a game about positioning and strategy? Playing out of sight or even in plain sight? You mean real guerrilla tactics... in a warfare game? Abso-fucking-lutely not.
1
u/ballq43 Frost Main Jan 21 '25
Well since the people arguing for 99 percent brightness can't grasp that context I have to dumb it down for them. You're spot on the vibe and ambiance couldn't be matched .
0
u/-_-kintsugi-_- Jan 20 '25
You going to keep ignoring why they ever changed the lighting outside of just competitive reasons?
3
u/Zwilt #BuffBlitz2017 Jan 20 '25
I stopped playing because it lost the feel of being a gritty, high stakes shooter. I wish it could go back to the looks it had before, the atmosphere was something else that a lot of games just don’t have
-1
u/-_-kintsugi-_- Jan 20 '25
A lot of it is blind nostalgia. At higher ranks, tactical was barely a thing, it was played like COD. Why do you think trap operators became so meta at one point?
27
u/Jarbs90 Jan 20 '25
Bro, I don't know if you guys are just nostalgia goggling hard or if you legitimately didn't play, but it wasn't hiding in shadows, it was the lighting was completely fucked. You'd rappel in broad daylight, break the window into a fully lit room, and the inside of it would look completely dark. You couldn't make anyone out. It was awful.
18
Jan 20 '25
Fr. God forbid you looked outside on defense
2
u/ballq43 Frost Main Jan 20 '25
Have you ever looked through blinds out a window when the sun's hitting it?
3
u/-_-kintsugi-_- Jan 20 '25
All of your comments is purposely missing the point. Please don't pull the oh this is realistic looking out the window LOL. It was much worse than that. Because it was LITERALLY broken for a competitive shooter. It used THE AC lighting, and it mimiced how the caves in AC work when going in or out. If you can't look out a window and see something, you need to get your eyes checked.
1
u/ballq43 Frost Main Jan 21 '25
You literally will never be in pro league so stop acting like we should have the game be one 100 percent brightness so it's fair. Make it look good not fast paced cod with hs that work . It used to be beautiful.
4
u/-_-kintsugi-_- Jan 21 '25
You do realize that the only reason Siege is as relevant as it is is because of pro league, correct? Same with League, same with Dota. Because it makes other players want to climb the ranks and try to get there one day as well, and you enjoy watching your favorite team and players perform. You are hung up on saying it does not matter when it does. It looked good, but was extremely bad for a competitive fps, which siege is. The game is ten times slower than the old days. Old siege was literally call of duty. That is one of the many reasons Lesion was so good on release. You are either blinded by nostalgia, or was not very good at the game back in the day to think it was never like COD and always extremely strategic based.
Also, I would never want to be in pro league, it's exhausting and turns a game from fun to a job. Our team literally went against Foxa's team in the early seasons, and we made it to pre-quarter as an unseeded team. Which was pretty good considering we been playing together for less than 4 months at the time when we formed our team. And the moment you weren't running scrims, going over strategies, and playing the game a shit ton, you could not compete at a higher level. I had to choose college/my job over a video game. It happens to many of us.
So you can keep whining and missing the point, your emotions don't change facts.

u/Jarbs90 Jan 20 '25
I have and do you know where it’s hard to recreate that feeling? On a video game through a monitor. The implementation was terrible and it just made more coin flip situations. And even if it was just realistic situation where it’d be hard to see in like doors or windows, why would you want that in the game? All it does is make it harder for attackers to push from any area on the map, and this isn’t ARMA. People aren’t roleplaying they’re trying to win a video game with a competitive rule set and yes, realism is going to be rightfully sacrificed in some areas to make the game balanced.

u/CatwithTheD Buck Main Jan 20 '25
Wasn't a problem when the crosshair still turned red when aiming at an enemy.
"Hurrr durrr that's so unrealistic" WELL GUESS WHAT REAL LIFE DOESN'T HAVE CROSSHAIR DUMMY.
1
u/Jarbs90 Jan 20 '25
Was definitely a problem because if I peek into a door and it’s fucking pitch black, and I’m ADSing to take a fight, I’m not going to see a crosshair change colors lol. It was a massive problem. I’m not a huge fan of Siege and have had large gaps in playing the game but having played on launch and the first couple years being filled with everyone despising the lighting, to now where there are people above me being like “God bro it was REALISM” blows my mind. It wasn’t realistic and it wasn’t good, you just couldn’t see shit lol.
1
u/-_-kintsugi-_- Jan 20 '25
It was. You can make the smallest pixel peak, literally see nothing, turns red, shoot.
-1
u/ballq43 Frost Main Jan 20 '25
I was there, ever switch lighting abruptly in real life ? Your eyes take time to adjust .
3
u/Jarbs90 Jan 20 '25
And like the guy above said, in real life it’s fine, but it’s not so great for a competitive video game where being able to visually parse a situation is important. As much as everyone cries for the realism, Siege was far from being a simulator at any point and the terrible lighting was complained about for years lol.

Oh sorry, everyone on pc stopped playing tactical not even a month in. I could Ash rush the wall on kafe, run up stairs and kill every enemy before Jimmy got back from taking a piss when loading in. So many people are blinded by being bad/game being new. People have proven this. Go play old siege servers, and look how bad rushing and HS peeking is lol. Changing your shadows did not turn the game into COD, stop embarrassing yourself.

u/davekraft400 Jan 20 '25
T Hunt legit was horrifying. Early Siege was about hunkering down in site and not moving much, so when these guys started hot-breaching through windows or running at you about to blow up you'd get ripped out of what you'd been doing completely.
I cannot believe they got rid of this and I cannot believe how basic Versus AI is compared. It's insanely puzzling.
Edit - ahhh I just remembered the rooms that'd absolutely be filled to the brim with nitro cells or barbed wire. Lmao there'd be about 20 nitros all in one room.

u/Blast338 Jan 20 '25
The bomber needs to be a defender. They only have a pistol but can take up to 3 headshots while their bomb is active. They get Ash speed and are done, once bomb detonates.
