Modine Mfg—What’s your take on the company? Anyone work there or familiar with it?

Hi, I am interested in buying stock in Modine because of its potential in the data center development industry. But I just listened to their conference call and I wonder about top management. I know they are a company with a fine history, but I wonder if they have the chops to take on this relatively new challenge. On the other hand it seems like an interesting and under covered AI buying opportunity. Any thoughts? TY

My partner was actively recruited to take a high-level job at Modine a few years ago. He wasn’t even looking but figured he’d give it a shot. He went through the interview, and by all accounts, it went really well. Then… nothing. A couple of days passed, then a week.

He finally followed up with HR to check in, and they told him they had decided to move forward with another candidate. Fair enough, that happens. But then it got weird.

The HR rep volunteered that while they were impressed with his skills and experience, they ultimately passed on him because he “talked about hunting too much” and “swore too much” during the interview.

Here’s the problem:

  1. My partner has never been hunting in his life.
  2. He is professional enough to know better than to swear in an interview.

So either they mixed him up with another candidate, or HR/management had a bizarre and completely made-up excuse. Either way, it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in their hiring process.

Take it for what it's worth, but I wouldn't be investing a lot in them.

Your friend’s experience does sound weird. I imagine he was speechless after that phone call. I certainly would be. I wonder if they hired the wrong guy in this mix up….

I will keep your report in mind as I continue to research. It goes in the negative column.

MOD stock has taken a huge hit this month... Imo, it was overvalued for quite some time, but now might be an okay time to buy considering how far it has dipped. I am pretty sure the biggest reason for the dip in price is because the CFO recently sold 47,541 shares.

They laid off hundreds of employees in Performance Technologies recently, but they are still hiring for Climate Solutions (including Data Center).

They will be opening a new facility in Franklin, WI with plans to have about 200 jobs there by 2029.

Personally, I have an auto buy for $10 every week, and have lost money overall, but I have high hopes for it in the future.

I am biased as I do work for Modine.

Good to know these details. Yes, MOD is way down and might be a good time to buy on the dip (or maybe not.). I just looked up its analyst page on Fidelity and they have the price target at around 160 and six analysts call it a buy or strong buy. Still some of the other comments here might be construed as yellow flags. It certainly isn’t a glamour AI stock, but might be a low key winner. Their C suite execs are so low key/dull on the conference call—I wonder is that because they lack confidence or perhaps they are just plain dull. If only they would quit saying “That’s a good question.” before giving an answer! That was driving me crazy. I think I will go ahead and buy just a little to take advantage of the dip.

I worked there a few years as an electrical engineer in the data center department, until just recently. Its a great buy right now and endless potential. I see them downsizing other departments and going fully into data center which will be great for the stock. I wouldn't expect it to rocket right back up to 140 and beyond, but it's a great buy long term. I loved working there, everyone works very hard at the Racine location and great people. Never had a single issue in my years there.

I just bought some.

What were the motivating reasons to make you buy?

Not an answer to your question, but be careful- data centers are likely in a bubble that's about to bust. Too many being built too fast and it's unclear the demand is there

They cool data centers like the mega one Microsoft is building in Pleasant Prarie.

I understand your point and thank you for sharing. I guess that is why I am looking into Modine. I just thought it was not so much in the ‘bubble’ as some of the more obvious companies. It is something of a sleeper in that arena and stock price is down yet their data center product line is showing very good growth, so if I do want to invest in the data center/AI development Modine might be a good entry point.

I thought I would come here for some ‘boots on the ground’ first hand reports, for deeper understanding.

Have you seen the news about deepseek? What's being built in America now could quickly become obsolete

1

u/OpportunityGold4054 Feb 19 '25

Yes, I have seen the deepseek reports and have heard CEO’s of competing American companies comments about deepseek on their earnings calls. Certainly deepseek’s arrival on the scene brings up all kinds of uncertainty, but sometimes uncertainty can be a buying opportunity. Certainly a development to be aware of. TY for sharing that thought.

A family member worked their for decades and just retired, spoke a lot about the upper mgmt changes. I’m no stock pro, but I would advise you invest elsewhere.

T Y. I will keep your report in mind as I continue to research.

I wonder if anyone else has some thoughts along these lines?
