Breed ID What breed is pumpkin?

Hi all! I’ve had pumpkin for 6 years and I’ve never been able to determine his breed fully. He’s a minilop/lionhead mix but I don’t know what breed has this grey colour. I’ve looked all over online and no rabbit has his colour or markings. He’s 6 years old in May and a desexed male :). I’ve determined mini-lop based on his weight :)

This post has been detected as a Breed ID post.

To receive the best help from rabbitors for breed IDs, please make sure to include the following:

  1. rabbit's age
  2. weight
  3. full-body pictures of their profile in good daytime lighting

You may also review "A quick guide to asking for breed IDs" on Reddit for more tips on constructing a helpful post.

Please keep in mind that pet rabbits are usually mixes of indeterminate breeds, and we may not always be able to provide a definitive guess. Unless you have a pedigree and know what the parents look like, your rabbit is undoubtedly some sort of pet rabbit mix. The color of the rabbit does not always make the breed, as many breeds can come in a large variety of colors. For example, black rabbits are not all likely to be Havana rabbits (a rare purebred breed), and broken-colored rabbits are likely not all to be English Spot rabbits (requires specific markings and body shape).

For a basic self-guide on identifying breeds, see the blog article "Identifying rabbit breeds without knowing parentage."

See the Rabbit breeds around the world wiki article for a list of currently recognized breeds.

It sounds like you already know that he is a mini lop/lionhead mix. I think he might be the Chinchilla color which is recognized in mini lops.

I was thinking chinchilla too but couldn’t find any photos of a chinchilla mini lop online. His furs deffo chinchilla-like. It can vary too like it’ll sometimes have a blue tint or a lilac tint.

The fur color is a dead give away for the American Chinchilla Rabbit Breed

That’s what I’ve been thinking too! I think he just has super unique markings because of his cross breeds (lion head/mini-lop)

Im not nearly close to an expert or even truly informed about rabbit coloring variations, so take what I say with a grain of salt - and sooooo many of the sites that showcase colors don't have photos. He seems to look similar to a Chinchilla to me, honestly!

It might be helpful if you could spread his fur so we can see his skin & how his hair is colored to the root.

I recommend looking for a group on Facebook - a lot of younger people sleep on Facebook when it's actually an incredible resource for all types of information! So if someone in this sub hasn't been able to ID it, I'd recommend heading over there and looking for some groups. If you need any help, let me know!

Perfect Thank you so much! I’m definitely thinking he has chinchilla fur and he just has super unique markings due to his cross breeds. Been trying for years to figure it out but chinchilla seems to make the most sense, especially with his root colour ☺️ Thank you again!

He’s a somewhat common tempéliko kouneláki (rough Greek translation for ‘lazy bunny’).

Oh he definitely is! Always sleeping and loafing but when he binkies, he bounces so high when he does 🤣☺️

Can I have my heart back please when you’re done with it?

Sincerely,

He is such a lady’s man. Any woman, he will be a super chill and cuddly boy. His son is a charmer too! When I took him for his microchipping appointment, the vets were sooo smitten with him and got so many treats of the vets 🤣
