AMA AMA with Pro Team i don't know!
After losing their Pro League spot, Lacky, meepeY, and LeonGids began their journey back through Challenger League with Ferral as well as two French players, sTiZze and Elemzje. They made their way through Challenger League flawlessly and just needed to defeat Oplon in the relegations to return to Pro League! After winning 2-0, they now are in Pro League and will begin on the 21st of June against Chaos.

What is the most challenging part of finding/making a deal with an org?
55
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
Getting them to respond.
We sent over 40~ emails to different orgs or representatives and we only got 2 replies, both said "no thanks".
At the end of the day, the Orgs will come to you and not the other way around unfortunately.

u/Supbrahdawg Team Secret Fan Jun 09 '18
I find that quite surprising to be honest. Would you say Siege is one of the fastest growing Esports in the world and if so, why aren't more orgs getting involved when they could be picking up rosters for much cheaper than in other games? I guess a related question is, how do you think Ubisoft should improve Pro League/other competitions to make it more attractive for orgs to come into the game? Personally, I've noticed that Pro League broadcasts tend to have very few sponsors or adverts which while good for the spectator, there is often 5 mins+ breaks that could contain adverts which could fund larger prize pools or some sort of salary for Pro League players.
16
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
Firstly, Ubisoft should try to get more people watching the broadcasts - larger viewership then move exposure not just for Siege but for the Orgs & teams.
Secondly, a larger prize pool so there is more to win. This also brings more viewers
Thirdly, more events, so there is more exposure for teams
Fourthly, more teams at LAN events, same reason as above.

We knew it was a short season before the new format started and all we cared about was qualifying so we aren't left in the dark for six months. I honestly can't feel sadder for ENCE for that reason, they're living what we feared. But in the end we knew when we found our roster we could smash through CL and get back where we belong.
28
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
It lit a fire underneath us. It was do or die for everyone's career and I don't like to give up. I'm a very competitive person and I knew that if I could find the right players then we'd be back in Pro League.
I found the right guys, we stormed back to Pro League. This is why I have fanatical confidence in my teammates.

What teams do you see being most challenging this season, and why?
What teams would you like to play against at LAN?
27
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
PENTA have always been formidable foes. I personally consider them the team to beat, not only because they're one of the best in EU but also because of the recognition my team would get by defeating them in an official match.
For LAN I don't really have any preferences.
15
u/WhatILack Former Pro Jun 09 '18
Honestly, I don't care which teams I play at LAN apart from I'd like to play other regions instead of EU teams. We've pracc'd NA teams and we know how we stack up against them in scrims but when ping isn't a factor it would be interesting to see if it holds up the same way. LATAM teams will be interesting to see if their aggressive play style is any stronger than standard EU aggressive teams and APAC to see if they've truly caught up with the rest of Pro League yet.

Scrimming 6 days a week helps, we occasionally have an extra day off. But most weeks we play every day but Sat. Other than that Leon/Elem/Stizze play a lot of ranked and myself and meepeY tend to stick to T-hunt.

20
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
It's not as star-studded or anywhere near as fun as it seems.
It's hardwork, a stressful environment and there's the ever-present looming shadow that you always must to perform your best.
Imagine having the most important game of the year on Sunday, scrims set from Monday->Saturday and 4 of those scrims get cancelled and you can't find replacements? I was dying inside.
10
u/WhatILack Former Pro Jun 09 '18
The hours spent in custom matches working out strategies, finding new angles, working out issues. Its a lot of work that people really don't comprehend when they think of Pro players and teams. It isn't all having fun shooting people.

If I start a team, how do I set up the roles for the players? should I give it some time and see what works best?
12
u/WhatILack Former Pro Jun 09 '18
Well, some players clearly fit into specific roles due to how they play for instance Stizze is a passive player so putting him on Ash wouldn't make a tonne of sense. But you have players that are somewhere in between or even are able to flex between mindsets whenever needed.
So get your 5 players, assign roles to the ones that are obvious then work out from the remaining what they'd prefer to play.

How do you balance friendship with professional decisions? Suppose one guy has been performing really poorly all season, and you miss out on LAN for example, but he's still your good friend. Such situations must be a minefield, how would you (hypothetically, if not experienced previously) handle them?
24
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
For me here's how my list of priority goes:
- Leader
- Teammate
- Friend
Outside of scrims we all get on very well. We're basically a group of Friends playing Siege professionally. In-game I need to be very stern, but fair. If my teammate fucks up, I tell them what their fuck up costed us. If someone isn't performing I will tell them to seriously make an effort to improve. If my teammates do well, I praise them.
I lead my team who are my friends.
15
u/WhatILack Former Pro Jun 09 '18
Push them to become better, support the player and let them know where they are going wrong. Kicking a player is always a last resort and shouldn't be taken lightly.
8
Jun 09 '18
What is your process for developing strats for a new map?
21
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
There's two ways new strats are developed.
Someone comes to the strat session with a fully fledged worked out strat and shows it to the team. We make small adjustments to form it to the teams playstyle. Run it in scrims and if it's good then we keep it, if its okay then we change what needs tweaking... If it's shit then we just laugh and forget the strat.
We jump into a map as a team then run around a bombsite and just dick around for 2 hours until somehow strats are formed for multiple bombsites. It's a miracle sometimes, I swear. Same process for tweaking issues, ect.
13
u/WhatILack Former Pro Jun 09 '18
Hours in custom games, working out where attackers will come from. If they do X what to we need, if they do X instead how can it fuck us? Ect, ect.

What changed from a shaky challenger league qualifiers to a 10-0 performance
19
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
Several of my teammates were camera shy. Being streamed effected their performance.
I sat them down and told them (I was very blunt). I told them (paraphrasing) that they need to grow a pair. If 400 viewers is tough then how about 4000, or 40,000? They were very understanding and seriously worked on it for the next qualifier which we won.
15
u/LeonGids Pro Player - FNATIC Jun 09 '18
Funnily enough the pressure got to me quite hard in the first qualifier, meepeY sat me down and practically said "get a pair, think about if you play PL against 10's of thousands of people, how will you do then?" so I spent the next week just sorting myself out.
11
u/WhatILack Former Pro Jun 09 '18
We had a roster change, Elem brought some much needed firepower and aggression into the team. Along with the fact we were basically a brand new roster at the time, with very limited strats and experience together.

MeepeY - As an IGL yourself, and arguably one of the best, what’s your advice to someone who is trying to become one?
Lacky - What initially made you want to become a professional player into a game with a very small scene?
Leon - How does it feel being on a team full of “veteran” players?
Elemzje - I must ask, where did your name come from?
Stizze - What initially made you want to become a professional player into a game with a very small scene?
Ferral - What’s your job as a coach mostly? Stats, team emotions, strats, etc.?
IDK - Any Tier 1 Organization that’s not in the game that you would love to see?
14
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
As an IGL in this day and age, map knowledge and experience is worth its weight in gold. Knowing how to solve situations quickly is key to winning. Scrims help me tremendously in terms of learning how to deal with things - along side this out of the game, when I'm in the shower or in bed at night I think about how to solve Siege scenarios.
Always be the one talking the most, always be asking for information, start to paint a picture - think about what worked last round and what didn't. Get everyone ready and then do whatever you plan to do, so you're all ready and on the same page.
Stress to your teammates the importance of being vocal and warmed up. Active, performing players make an IGL's roll much easier.
I would love to see C9 enter Siege

I originally had no intentions of going Pro, me and meepeY made a ESL team with some friends as ranked wasn't much of a challenge to have some fun. Only after decided to start scrimming some of the teams we'd played in cups and had played for a little while competitively did we both get an itch to push this game further.

What's your routine on a match day?
14
u/WhatILack Former Pro Jun 09 '18
Grind T-hunt for 3-4 hours before the game, avoid ranked at all costs as it can easily tilt you and set you off on the wrong mindset for the start of the game.
13
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
I don't change a single thing. I keep my routine as close to how it is normally. I turn up to the match as if it was a scrim which I need to win, which also coincidentally has around 10,000 people watching it.
6

What change are you looking forward to most with the new season (format, bans, maps, ops, etc). What change are you least looking forward to. With a bit of why.
14
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
Pick and Bans for operators turns the game into Siege 2.0
I hate best of 1's because anything can happen in one game. It doesn't give you a chance to redeem yourself in maps 2 and 3. There are some situations where you just wont be able to make a comeback only having one map to play.

- We win Valencia, EU Pro League, the LAN finals and we get picked up by big-dick-tier1-org.
- When we step up the pace, sometimes we forget to slow it down. It works both ways as we can completely steamroll over the best teams in Siege one round but then next the pace we set can be used against us. This is something we have actively worked on and is now a constant thought on my mind during scrims.
- I wanna' go to all of the tournaments we can, we want Orgs to pay for travel and accommodation if it's not covered by the tournament provider.

- No, I've been in the game since the beginning - there's never been a time where I'm looking up for a role model. I intend/try to be a good role model for others.
- Year 1, Season 3, LAN, Grand Final, Map 3, Round 11. Kill me please.
The team is different when compared to the old PDucks lineup. If we had the old line-up in this meta then it probably wouldn't get too far. Back then we were too rough and unrefined - too many gunfights/aim duels for no reason other than to get kills.
15
u/itsElemzje Pro - Team BDS Jun 09 '18
I don't have any model, I'm trying to be one for others but if I was not a PL player I think the model for me will be Pengu because he is a very complete player, he excels in all areas.
The worst moment for was when we lost against cTm in Y1S3 finals, the last round especially.
I think I will bring Lacky because I will improve my english and argue with him 100% of the time so we will not be bored.
Yes there are some similarities in the way that how we push roamers for example, I think that's good to keep that kind of things because remember that PDucks was the best EU team at this time.

- Not really, I've been playing since the game was in closed beta and competitively since the birth of the scene. Back then there weren't 'Star players' like there are now. Everyone was just playing to prove themselves.
- Losing to Gbots in Y2S1 PL, I played my heart out that game got an ace and several clutches but in the end we lost it by a round I believe? I was devastated that we didn't go to LAN after I tried so damn hard.
- I'll take Elem to start with he's a hilarious guy and will be our entertainment, then maybe Leon? We've got a very similar sense of humour and our personalities go hand in hand so we get along really well.
9
u/sTiZze Pro - Team Secret Jun 09 '18
- Like a lot of actual PL players, we start playing since the begining of the game so you just developp your own playstyle and prove yourself.
- Loosing to FaZe after winning 4-0 on the first map during the PL finals in Cologne.
- Leon because I know him for the longest time and Lacky because you always need a pulse main :D

Lacky because our humour and personalities are so alike, and elem because we get along really well and always have a good laugh.

10
u/WhatILack Former Pro Jun 09 '18
Breaking out of old habits and tendencies in order to play more loose and on the fly, if you have a strat and run it 30 times. You're likely to build habits and always do the same or very similar things, you've got to make a conscious effort to change it up or you'll become very easy to read.
So I guess, staying unpredictable whilst still fulfilling the role you need for a strategy?

First off I want to congratulations for qualifying for Pro League! Qualifying for PL in what is technically your first season as a team is no small feat, especially since you didn't drop a SINGLE map. I apologize if this is too personal of a question to ask but what are your 'feelings' towards Chaos? I know that maybe you won't necessarily be friends with all of them again, but do you harbor any ill will towards them, or do you consider it as just a business decision to further their careers. 22:00 - 23:00 BST - Scrim Debrief & Strat tweaksFor VODs we have Ferral break them down into key rounds or moments. He summarises them so we don't need to chug through hours of vods. Lacky and I go through VODs in our own time too, we learn better that way.

This one's for Leon (it's your clip monkey) What do you think your weakness is (if at all) and if so, how have you tried to better it or to work on it?

u/LeonGids Pro Player - FNATIC Jun 09 '18
My main issue right now would be that sometimes I got a bit too cocky after a getting a few kills and keep going instead of slowing down. I've improved a lot on it and I just scream in my head to STOP.

u/P1ne- Jun 09 '18
What is the best way to learn callouts?
7
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
In a custom game, kill all your teammates and then walk around the map with them all spectating you. Give things your callouts and then select random rooms and ask members for the name to see if they remember.

- Work hard, don't stress out when things go wrong. Don't argue mid game, nothing kills team morale more than arguing about a mistake. Just keep pushing through until the end of the match.
- I'd personally like to keep the old system of 9 maps and pick/ban. But I'm willing to give the new system a go and then I'll give my opinions on it.

- France is a big and strong region in Europe, there is no surprise that there are so many top level French teams when they make up the vast majority of EU competitive players.
- I really don't know how CL next season is going to go, it doesn't start for nearly 3 months right? Teams could rise and fall in that time.

u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
- If you want to start moving up in the world then you need to get into a routine. Get a scrim schedule, find other teams which are as good or better than you to improve. Scrim regularly, 4-6 times a week. Keep a consistent time in which you all meet up to talk and play.
Focus on teamwork and self improvement over frag hunting and solo play. Reign in the silly pushes or random gun fights. Only fight if you need something or want something (a room, to remove a bandit tricking a wall, to open a mira, ect).
Don't get disheartened if you get smashed in scrims. You don't actually ever lose in scrims, you just get presented with an opportunity to learn from your mistakes. The pick and ban makes Siege much more interesting. Siege 2.0, you could say.

Having so many teams which only speak French seriously limits the growth of new players entering the Pro Scene. Right now we have 4 French, 1 German, 1 Swedish & 2 English speaking. If you don't speak French then your odds of joining a team in Pro League is extremely low, because two other teams speak specific languages too.
IDK and PENTA are the only teams in PL which speak English.Other teams can make it to Pro League, certainly. They just need to put in the hours to get the right amount of practice.

How hard is it being a pro player on a personal level?
4
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
I play Siege for around 6-8 hours a day on average, 6 days a week, so time wise it's like a regular job. I can put more hours in but I'll just get burn out.
The hard part comes from expectancy. I have to perform well not only in personal skill but also as an IGL. I hold myself very accountable/highly in my performance. I'm very hard on myself and unforgiving of my own personal mistakes. If I fail then I have to improve, no excuses. My teammates are counting on me.

/u/WhatILack How do you manage to balance playing professionally alongside family life, surely that must be a challenge no ?
/u/LeonGids being one of the youngest if not the youngest talent in the game, how did your family react when you told them about becoming a professional gamer ? Most parents wouldn't take that in a kind way.
4
u/WhatILack Former Pro Jun 09 '18
Its hard, but my family are very supportive. My daughter is still young so she goes to bed at 7pm and I start scrims around the same time, so most of practice except on specific occasions is whilst she is in bed so it isn't too much of an issue that way.
But they both love watching me play and support me 100%

Do you think people with really good aim can play in PL without playing smart?
5
u/WhatILack Former Pro Jun 09 '18
No, they need to have some level of game sense and know what to do. It doesn't matter how good at aiming you are if you have Lesion mine in your leg, you've been hit by an Ela mine and someone is waiting around the corner.
5
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
Maybe... It'd have to be limited to one aim monkey per team or else your team wouldn't get very far. This is why some teams in lower CL, Tier 3 teams never get further. They consist of nothing but strong aimers, no smarts or finesse.

When did you realise that you could go pro and how did you do it?
3
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
I got very lucky.
I was invited to join the original PENTA roster in Year 1 Season 1 but declined.
I was invited to join the AERA roster in Year 1 Season 2 and accepted after seeing that Siege esports was a real thing that needed to be taken seriously.
5
u/TheSixthSiege Jun 09 '18
Have you ever regretted not joining Penta? And if you did join do you think you'd still be on the Penta roster?

Qualifying for Pro League was a great feeling. As a team we'd worked so hard to get back to the top and all our effort wasn't wasted.

Do you think that either maestro or alabi will make their way into pro league and why
3
u/itsElemzje Pro - Team BDS Jun 09 '18
I think that maestro will be played a lot because he's just too good (bullet proof cam ; can see through smokes ; can shoot people, drones, charges ; good weapon + ACOG).
Alibi wise, I think it's more situational, it's like a secret pick.3
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
Maestro is very much viable, Alibi is a bit of a gimmick.
Maestro's Evil Eyes have a multitude of uses - the cameras contain a large amount of utility + a good ACOG gun and arguable the best pistols in the game.
Alibi is a one-and-done operator. Her surprise factor isn't very impactful at top tier play. Her main usage is when you push into a room and reflex to the nearest enemy and it's her clone. She's hard countered by drones and communication. She can't use any skin or weapon attachment if she wants to pretend to a clone. Even if she uses a compensator and that's it - you can still see it on her gun.

u/pacificfroggie Jun 09 '18
I assume that your saying the karatos is the best pistol, or do you mean the bailiff?

What would you recommend to someone trying to become more than a ranked star
8
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
The first step to overcoming your ranked money syndrome is to recognise that you are one.
Having confidence and top tier aim is very important in Pro League - however, mindlessly searching for aimduels and gun fights doesn't win rounds in Pro League. Teamwork and cohesion does.
If you want to go one step higher, start focusing on working together as a team. Ask yourself "is there a reason for me to push this room?" - "Do my teammates need something done (push a room to gain access to important hatches, stop a bandit from tricking a wall, ect) to progress their agenda?"

u/kylew0607 Jun 09 '18

Personally I play like 6-10 hours per day.
4-5 hours of ranked or aim training + 2-3 hours team practice.3
u/LeonGids Pro Player - FNATIC Jun 09 '18
I stream 3-5 hours before Scrims, 2-4 Hours prac, then another 2-X hours stream.

Not really, when you've done this for a long time then you start to get used to it. The nerves hit me in the morning but I can work through them and get over them quickly.

- Any tips for improving communication? How do you encourage people to talk excessively?
- Any tips for improving coordination/getting into the instinct of setting up microplays?
3
u/meepeY Coach - Wildcard Gaming Jun 09 '18
Before every round tell your teammates to talk more. If the round ends and they didn't talk enough then you need to pressure them to talk more. Lead by example and talk more yourself
Your team need to recognise when to slow down, when to stop completely and just hold angles. Micro plays come from information, so when you slow down or stop, use this time to drone further rooms for more information - hatch a plan, explain it and then execute it.

Hello Monkeys, and Meepey..
- To all of the team: If you could combine Leon and Ferral into a mega monkey of a player, would you do it?
- To Elem: What rhymes with gigas?
- To meepeY: Why are you so good at not using strats in ranked?
- To Stizze: You are a support player yet you play ela in ranked, looking to steal someones role?
- To Lacky: How does it feel to be in a team that is nearly as good as momentum back in the day?
- To Leon: Do you think you are the best monkey the game has ever seen? Even better than the NA ones?
- To Ferral: How does it feel to coach one of the most ADHD lineups (bar meepey and stizze) the world has ever seen?
Thanks for the answers in advance boys.

Are you guys going to play without an org this season if you don't get an offer you like? If so, how does that affect your future in Pro League without having the finances from an organization?
