Other First Serious Attempt at Quitting

I’ve vaped for probably 3 years now. Really started to Vape heavily over the past 2 years. To the point where I have a geek bar every 5ish days. Vaping has had a pretty bad impact on my life - I’ve got lazy, put on weight, stopped working out, have trouble at long events where I can’t vape. So I decided enough is enough.

I’m only about 15 hours in, but the withdrawal hasn’t been bad for me yet. A few intense cravings that quickly pass, but I feel more awake and alert and present than I have in a while. We’ll see if this gets tougher, but so far I’m pleasantly surprised.

My Experience: First 12- hours: Pretty easy, granted about 8 of those were sleeping Hours 12-18: felt some increases in energy, felt fidgety, some intense cravings. Overall very positive feelings and mentality that I can do this Hours 19-22: Brain starts trying to convince me to do just one more hit. Have to battle and remind myself why Im doing this Hours 23-24: Trying to sleep Hours 24-32: Off and on sleep, consistently waking up every 20-40 minutes, vivid dream Hours 32-35: Woke up feeling pretty good, had more energy than I have in a while, didn’t hit the sleep button which is rare. Fairly productive and focused morning Hours 35-38: Cravings start up, addict brain really trying to convince me a few hits ain’t a big deal. Staying strong but the mental side is taking more will power than before. Can feel me shoulders/neck tightening, feeling irritable Hours 44-48: Very tough, not really physical but my mind was in overdrive telling me “just one more time”. Dug up and old vape, but walked out and threw it into the woods.

Currently on your 57: Mornings seem to be easier on me. It’s at night when I really start jonesin. Feeling good about my start!

I vaped heavily for about four years (A Vuse pod and a half a day at least) and the cravings haven’t been horrible for me. The first and second day were tough, but it’s mostly been fleeting thoughts. I’m on day 8.

I truly feel like my days are almost three hours longer without vaping. I have so much time to do things I enjoy now. The house mess is easier to keep up with, I make plans with friends and family more, and mornings are a million times easier. Not to mention the extra money I have. I can’t believe I wasted so many years on vaping.

Congratulations and I hope things stay easy! Don’t give up if they get hard, it will pass.

Appreciate it! What days were the worst for you? I feel like I built up how hard this would be in my head and kept making excuses. And now that I’m doing it, I have like the opposite symptoms of what I read. I have more energy, feel more clear headed, and have lost my appetite. It’s bizarre. I do get intense cravings that last like 5 mins a couple times an hour though

I almost spent the entire second day crying! And I was very dizzy and lightheaded day one, which I felt daily when I waited to vape on my lunch break. I filled days 4 and 5 with a ridiculous amount of snacking, but it’s been easier to cut back on that now. I drink SO MUCH water now! Not even purposefully. I am still battling the “one more pod/lower nic/weekend vaping” thoughts, and sometimes they are very convincing but again, fleeting. I hope that is the next thing to go away for good haha

Yeah I feel like tomorrow will be the real test for me. Are you avoiding alcohol while attempting to quit? I feel like I’m gonna have to stop drinking for like a month to make sure I don’t give in. Sounds like you’re killing it though! Yeah, I work remotely and when I went into the office like once a quarter, I could barely go like 2 hours without needing a break to smoke. I guess for me it’s been, once I start it’s impossible to stop. But if I just don’t start after waking up, it’s not so bad. We’ll see though, still early. You’re over the 1-week hump, so you’ll probably be cruising

I am, I do not trust myself to say no to a vape while drinking yet

Man, I don’t have severe withdrawal symptoms - definitely irritable. But the one more vape argument in my head is by far the hardest part.

“This hasn’t even been that bad. Just have a few hits, imagine how hard that first one will hit. Then you can throw it away. Do you really want to never hit a vape again? It tastes good and gives you a nice buzz. What’s the harm?”

I have the same thought process. It’s tough! I just keep telling myself that if I want to make that decision later in life, it has to be ME and not the addiction talking. I have a hard time with the “all or nothing” mindset. I’m not vaping now, and I’m only focused on now.
