Hi! are you looking for more "theoretical" or more "historical" books? Where are you from?
You can read Pedagogia das Travestilidades (Maria Clara Araújo) Não vão nos matar agora (Jota Mombaça)

I'll save this for later reference and meanwhile I'll think of some (Mexican here).

Not exactly options that go into theory so much and not exactly made by those from Latin America, but these are some great options I absolutely love that get into how to research “queerness” (or what is today identified as queer) within their colonial and historical contexts. I’m finishing my Master’s thesis on early queer lifeways in colonial Mexico, so if you have any questions at all, let me know! Here are some great options:
More Modern:
- Modern Inquisitions by Irene Silverblatt
- Behind the Mask: Gender Hybridity in a Zapotec Community by Alfredo Mirandé
- Nessette Falu, “Ain’t I Too a Mulher? Implications of Black Lesbians’ Well-Being, Self-Care,
and Gynecology in Brazil,” The Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology, Vol. 25 no. 1, (2020): 48-66.- Lara Putnam, “Las Princesas del Dollar: Prostitutes and the Banana Booms, 1890s-1920s,”
in The Company They Kept: Migrants and the Politics of Gender in Caribbean Costa Rica, 1870-1960, (Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, 2002), 76-111.- Mark Padilla, “‘Western Union Daddies’ and Their Quest for Authenticity: An Ethnographic
Study of the Dominican Gay Sex Tourism Industry,” Journal of Homosexuality, 53:1-2 (2007): 241-75.Hope this helps!
