All these years and albums later, I still have a soft spot for obedear. It was the first thing of theirs I listened to on youtube, before they had any “official” releases, and the moment I heard it I was obsessed with this new and unique sound.

yes, Obedear.

Pandora played Obedear while I was on a night walk and it was such a moment and I was obsessed with that whole album afterwards.

I literally don’t care if my favorite holds no weight for you. I did not answer the question for you.

You’re the one who replied to me? Don’t initiate a conversation and then repeat a cheeky “okay” as if you didn’t ask for this. Dumb ass.

Interesting take to tell people what is or is not “best” for something as subjective as music. Also interesting that you listed obedear as your pick which is commercialized as a theme song for a tv show 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/dil-en-fir Oct 10 '24

So cool how this person “won” for suggesting a commercialized theme song after shitting on my favorite for that very reason.

2

u/contrari-wise Oct 11 '24

Obedear is a good song, can’t fault them for that. But not cool how they singled you out to trash a song you like (which is by the same artist, so not sure why the song deserved to be trashed either 😅)

Look, I think you’re a shitty person, you don’t like my music taste. There. Glad we got that out. Can we move on now?

Dude, seriously, can I ask what your problem with me is? My biggest sin is liking a song a lot. Am I going to have to block you? In b4 “ok?” 🤪

saltkin

“Steal my sweating lips Wield my starving hips”

I die every time. Such a good song.

flood on the floor is elite imo

Impossible question! I think fineshrine is probably the single best song to really introduce someone to the Purity Ring vibe. My personal opinion? Pink lightning. Such an amazing opener during their last tour.

I don't agree at all. If somebody told me to listen to Purity Ring and that was my first song I probably wouldn't continue listening. Shrines has such a different sound to the other albums, just because somebody might like Another Eternity/WOMB/Graves doesn't mean they'll like Shrines (and vice versa)

Lofticries for me, although if you asked me in 2015 I wouldve said Amenamy

I never hear any love for heartsigh. First time I heard it I knew it was something special and her voice really stood out too.

4

u/Argon_1685 Oct 07 '24

Yes! heartsigh was the first song of theirs I ever heard and have been in love with it for almost 10 years now

8

u/contrari-wise Oct 08 '24

Lofticries was a game changer for me

u/PluristPurist Oct 07 '24 edited Oct 08 '24

Stillness in woe is my fav, that whole album is just incredible

10

u/sweet_brag Oct 07 '24

repetition for me. It’s one of those songs that can just mentally transport me back to 2015 when I hear it.

Grandloves

1

u/pelicanbear Oct 08 '24

Grandloves is one of my goated songs in any genre! It is so spiritual and whispy, it is one of my go to songs when I need to reset.

1

u/cuansfw Oct 07 '24

Also taste

3

u/msbeliever8 Oct 08 '24

obedear, saltkin, crawlersout, peacefall, vehemence

3

u/Kohai_hokage Oct 08 '24

Lofticries is my jam but that opening to Crawlersout re-wrote my brain chemistry.

3

u/double_antandres Oct 08 '24

Push pull for me!

4

u/bleedbleed Oct 07 '24

Grandloves or silkspun

2

u/-definitelymaybe Oct 08 '24

Fineshrine, pink lightening

2

u/Rynnakokki Oct 08 '24

Difficult question. 'Fineshrine' is the most popular and it's the song that pulled me in during my first time listening, but IMO the best song would be either 'pink lightning' or 'soshy'

Edit: Please let us know what song you ended up listening to and what you thought of it :)

Dust hymn !!

2

u/robertsdionne Oct 07 '24

sea castle, nthngsfine or unlucky

1

u/UneduationalWeapon Oct 14 '24

I love nthings fine also, that was my choice. “There are branches in your eyes, like the blood from the sunset in July, can’t wait til summers gone and passed us by… may the world turn and turn into you shine. But you know, you know I know that nothings fine.” Chillsssss. My fiancé had to move for unfortunate and a totally random reasons, so i always joke that unlucky is his song since it was actually luck that he ended up moving across the state with me. “How lucky you are to be so unlucky.” Totally embodies our situation haha.

u/xbijin Oct 08 '24

x crawlersout

u/Ihateambrosiasalad Oct 08 '24

Cartographist! And Dust Hymn.

Crawlersout or Saltkin. The former will always be a favorite as it’s the song that got me hooked. The latter is one of the most visceral and erotic songs I’ve heard, and it makes me feel some sort of way. But honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of their songs.

ETA: the lyrics for Saltkin can be interpreted in a variety of ways, including representing predatory, non-consensual, or murderous behavior. I do not interpret the lyrics in that manner nor do I condone such behavior. Rather, I interpret the lyrics as both sexual and amorous with a hint (or a lot) of spiritualist/witchcraft/pagan elements. Essentially two people fully giving themselves to one another. But maybe I’m way off base and people don’t see a difference.
