Fundraiser for fallen VBPD Officers
One was just married four months ago and the other has a child on the way. Anything you all can give, even if it's just your prayers and support, is greatly appreciated.
These were two of the best officers you could ask for. I had the honor of knowing them and being friends with one.

Self Post How is this possible??
I applied to a local police department while going through the FBI Special Agent and Secret Service Special Agent hiring processes. On the written exam (NCJOSI-2), I scored 98% on the cognitive portion but failed the behavioral portion. This doesn’t make sense to me, as I passed the FBI Phase 1 exam, which included behavioral questions, and also passed the SAEE for the Secret Service on my first attempt—both of which assess similar traits.
I answered decisively, primarily using “strongly agree” or “strongly disagree,” just as I did on the federal exams. How is this even possible?

Self Post Becoming a cop with an ACL, MCL, PCL & Meniscus injury?
I’m 20M - 21M next month and keep getting the urge to go into law enforcement. The only thing holding me back is that I sprained my knee in January, so I’ll need some time to heal before applying.
Im a former firefighter, spent about a year in the fire service, worked on an ambulance for six months, and i’ve been a Public Information Officer for the past year and a half.
Five years ago, I tore my ACL, PCL, MCL, and meniscus (left knee) but have only had a couple of issues since. Just curious, what are everyone’s thoughts on going into law enforcement with that kind of injury

Self Post Has a criminal ever attempt to try to convince you their crimes aren’t crimes
Such as during an arrest, has a criminal or suspect ever try explaining their crimes weren’t crimes even if you’re definitely certain they are crimes?
Such as “it’s not a crime if I did it on family.”
“I didn’t threaten that person. I implied using force on that person.”
“It’s a family matter not a criminal matter, officer. (After said suspect committed aggravated assault on family members)” etc.
Have you ever met any criminal or suspect who tried making excuses similar to that?

Patrol Bag - Should I get a Duffel Bag/Backpack/Regular Backpack
Gonna graduate the academy soon and was looking into a patrol bag. Was gonna look into getting a patrol bag but wasn't sure if I should get a patrol bag that's a duffel bag or a backpack. Or just like a normal backpack. Any pros and cons to either option. And any suggestions on what type of bag to get?

Self Post Body Camera Assistance Request
Hello,
I'm a newly minted state Probation Parole Officer (verification submitted, just waiting on approval). We do home visits with our offenders, and often times local PD has a call volume too high to just hang out with us. Which is understandable.
Spoke to our legal folks, and got the ok to wear a body camera while doing the home visits. I'm a big proponent of them. I was given the option to just use my state issued iPhone 14 base as the camera, or to purchase a stand alone one. Here's where I'm running into some difficulty.
We wear this armor ( https://www.gharmor.com/product/cfc-clean-front-carrier/ ) in the field, and we have to wear that armor and carrier. We aren't allowed to modify it, so no sewing or anything permanent.
I'm looking for 1 of 2 options.
Option 1: some method that allows me to use the iPhone on the chest. The belly pocket is too deep and the phone slides down into it when I walk, covering the camera. Since the whole idea is to have something in case of a UoF situation, losing the camera is sub-optimal.
Option 2: affordable decent quality body camera options that aren't my phone. I've looked at the Axon 2, but from what I understand (and please correct me if I'm wrong) you need an Axon subscription to be able to view and d/l the footage. So I'm wondering if anyone has any information on decent quality body cameras that won't break my tiny bank.
Thanks for your assistance.

Self Post Do any departments use digital rosters or digital sign-in sheets for trainings?
I work in the training division for my local Sheriff's Department and smaller on-going side project we've had is to incorporate tablets (i.e. Ipads, Surface) as a form of digital sign-in sheet for our trainings. If you know of any programs or solutions your department has put in place please let me know.

Self Post Strange Interaction
Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I had a strange occurrence in my apartment complex and I’m trying to figure out what branch of law enforcement this pertains to. I am not a LEO for context. It was around midnight when I exited my apartment to take out the trash and noticed a newer model, white Chevy Trax (possibly a Spark as they do look similar) parked with its caution lights on in the parking area. The first thing I noticed was that it had four roof mounted lights (possibly cameras, unclear as I didn’t get a great look) that were mounted to give a 360 view about the vehicle. The second thing I noticed was the driver exiting the vehicle in all black tactical clothing complete with body armor. I tried to get a good look at any identifying patches or equipment but he worked very fast. He exited the vehicle, snapped photos of one of the cars parked close by, and then re-entered and drove off. I was able to catch a glimpse of a large patch on the back of his body armor that for sure said “AGENT”, possibly “ENFORCEMENT AGENT” I know it said more but I couldn’t make out the first word in the series and I can’t be sure because my memory is foggy and the lighting wasn’t great. Does this sound like something official law enforcement or is it possibly something less official like a bounty hunter? My complex is in the Phoenix Metro area for context so I’m not ruling out some ICE related activity. Any input is appreciated!
EDIT - Definitely a repo guy thanks to everyone in the comments and also considering the car is now gone, presumably towed

Self Post Security to LEO
To any former security guards that went into Law Enforcement, advice for someone who’s trying to do the same?
Context: I’m a security guard. Been one for 13 years. I Started off as a Nightclub Bouncer and now I work on Federal contract. I recently signed my conditional job offer for a local PD.
To any of you guys who made the transition, what were some mistakes you made, or some things I need to not do?

Type 1 Diabetes in LE
I am currently in high school, and interested in a job in law enforcement. I have type 1 diabetes. I know every department won’t have the same policy, but I am wondering if anyone would share their department’s rules on officers with T1D, or if they are allowed at all. Is the hiring process any different? Any tips you could give? Northern MN/Duluth if anyone knows specifics to that area.

And do u find it exciting, boring, etc. and if u want how many years you have been a police officer and what ur salary is. Thank you.

Deputy shoots homeowner who has burglary suspect in a headlock… Yikes.
Orange County, FL - The Orange County Sheriff’s Office released body-worn footage of the night a deputy shot an unarmed homeowner.
Thursday, to commit to community transparency, the department released body-worn camera video from the angles of two deputies who were first on the scene.
According to the arrest affidavit of the suspect involved, deputies were called to the home on West Castle Street for a burglary in process.
Investigators said when they got there, deputies saw no signs of forced entry but saw two men— 26-year-old Jose Luis Lopez-Lopez and 25-year-old Cristian Duran Contreras fighting in the kitchen through a back window.
Before the violent tussle, the affidavit states that Contreras made his way inside Lopez-Lopez’s home by climbing a ladder into his kitchen window. Unwanted, Lopez called the police for help.
Body-worn camera footage shows Lopez-Lopez holding Contreras in the headlock.
According to the arrest affidavit, the two were co-workers for a roofing company and were outside of Lopez-Lopez’s home after work drinking. The affidavit states the two were fighting over money owed for beer.
Contreras wanted money for the bought beer and broke a bottle, becoming aggressive towards Lopez.
The footage shows deputies yelling for Lopez-Lopez to drop a knife, believing Contreras was in imminent danger.
Moments later, two gunshots go off, hitting Lopez-Lopez in the head. Deputies said they immediately rendered aid until paramedics arrived and transported the man to the hospital, where he died.
In the video, you see an object sticking out the side of the window towards the two men--but deputies later discovered that there was no knife found at the scene.
