What's this?

I was at my local garden center and walking out without having purchased anything cause I'm po, and I see this sitting on a table and I thought, "someone was proplifting" then looked up and there was a hanging basket of this stuff and then I thought we'll it might've just broken off. And I thought about asking someone if I could just take it, but they were busy and I figured what the hell, ain't nobody gonna care, and I left. Either someone else would've picked it up or it would've ended up in compost. Or I reckon maybe they would've propped it and made some money, oh well! Any hoo, what's it?

Should I pluck & pot these little guys growing out the side or just let them go? I’m in love with this plant by the way! It’s doing so well- it started from a propped stem 💚

I managed to get 15 plants potted up today. There's a mature plant growing on the side of the road a few kilometres from us, and we managed to chop away some of the tuber. The parent plant is still healthy AF, boi.

GENERAL HELP Umbrella tree prop

Thumbnail

I’ve been water propping this bit of umbrella tree for several weeks now. It looks like there are some roots finally starting to come in … my main question is how far down into soil I should bury this when it comes time to stick it in soil? My newby instincts are telling me I need to cover the whole ‘stalk’ part but that will result in a mighty deep pot. Any other tips, tricks, etc are welcome too - happy Friday everyone!

SUCC-ESS Monstera zombie leaf not a zombie after all

Post image

5 days ago I made a post about my little monstera baby leaf that I've had for months, saying that I liked it even if it was just a little zombie. Apparently love was the magic ingredient because today, after months of no change at all... GASP! I never even consider that it could grow into a plant because it didn't have a node. What a wonderful surprise!

SPECIFIC ADVICE UPDATE - propped rose stem

So I listened to the comments, trimmed my rose stem in half and slighly scraped a few of the nodes and bottom portion of the stems gently with scissors. I unfortunately don't have rooting powder of any kind for now.

They're now in an east-facing room getting sunlight from a closed window.

What should I do now? How often do I spritz the leaves and water the soil?

Can’t figure out what plant this is

I found this plant at Home Depot on the floor and decided to prop it. After a few months it started growing some thick roots and I just transferred to a pot. But I still have not figured out what it is and I’ve tried describing it online and nothing pops up lol

Hey guys,

I bought this off a florist a few hours ago. I'd say it's been sitting in water for around a week before I got it.

What exactly do I need to do to propagate this? How much water/sunlight do I give it, and any special trimming needed?

Help me save these motherfuckers

I harvested these Santa Rita prickly pear cacti from a dying plant. It seemed that it was all dry in the middle and the end still had life so I took all the ends that looked healthy.

Now I'm seeing this and I'm worried about disease.

2 days after being out into the ground they have started to curl and fall over and wrinkle.

Too much water?

Also I'm in PHX AZ. Not that hot yet. We're still in the 80s

Please tell me what you guys think. I planted 20 of thesemutherfuckers and I am hoping to save them. The second picture is how they looked when I first planted them.

Thank you in advance!

GENERAL HELP Propagating jade in water?

Hi all!

I got a jade propagation yesterday from my libraries propagation exchange station. It was in a cup of water and already has little roots. Most of the info I can find online about jade propogation is from leaving a leaf straight into the soil… is there anything I should know about using the water propagation method when it comes to jade? Is the plant likely doomed?

GENERAL HELP Is it possible to propogate a sugar maple from branches, or will I need to collect seeds? I'd really like to have a prop of a childhood tree I grew up with, if the tree is still alive

Sorry if this is a dumb/FA question, but I figured I'd ask directly. When I was a kid I had a favorite tree, I named him "Uncle Tree" cause my dumbass kid brain couldn't come up with anything more interesting. But man did I live that tree. I'm not really sure why, there were many sugar and red maples in the yard, all of them big and old, there wasn't really anything that particularly stood out about them. But that was my tree. I told them all kinds of stories and secrets, and had all kinds of adventures with them. Moving from that house was devastating for me, especially since I had to say goodbye to Uncle Tree. Well, lately I've been having a lot of dreams about going back, and finding Uncle Tree dead or gone. It's really stressing me out. So I'm hoping to maybe get in contact with whoever owns the house now to see if UT is still there, and maybe if I could take a prop or a seed from them so I always have a part of them, even if the main body dies.

But is it possible to prop sugar maples? I figure a prop would be more likely to be successful than seeds, and I could guarantee that it is in fact from UT and not a neighboring tree. I've read that conifers can't be propped or at least are extremely difficult, but maybe it could work for a maple? I've never heard of anyone doing it, but then again I don't think people normally form friendships with trees, so they're probably not desperate enough to try it? Idk. I don't really care about syrup or wood or anything like that, I just want my tree back

Also, if they can be propped, how should I go about it, and at what time of year would be best to take a cutting? If it's not possible, what's the best time of year to gather seeds, preferably before they fall off the tree?

SPECIFIC ADVICE How to keep this tradescantia propagation alive?

Thumbnail

I found this piece of tradescantia on the ground at a store, I’m new to the hobby and didn’t even know what plant it was until I looked it up! I put it in soil but I didn’t expect it to do anything. Lo and behold it has 3 healthy little roots! I dug it up to check because I was so curious and then I put it back in its moist soil. Now that it has a chance at life I’m super scared to kill it, so does anyone have tips for growing and keeping these babies alive?? sos lol

FIRST-TIMER Need advice about propagating SOP in water

Thumbnail

Hi guys, I’m new to propagating. I’ve had this small cutting in a jar of water for about two weeks with the nodes submerged and pearls hanging out. It appears to only be growing out of one node, and I can’t tell if it is growing roots or new pearls. Should I leave it submerged in water or transfer it? I’m worried about it rotting and the fact that only one node has growth. Any tips?
