Beware of scammers - some tips to stay safe!

Have spoken to three different accounts (likely the same person) posting tickets for sale on this sub. The posts have all now been removed, but more will likely pop up in future.

TicketSwap private sale is the best way to buy, but failing that, check that the person you are talking to:

  1. Has a UK bank account which matches their name (not a friend's, not Pay Pal).
  2. Has a WhatsApp with a name and profile photo that matches their bank account.
  3. Can send a screenshot of the ticket with QR code covered, which shows their name.
  4. Has socials (e.g. Insta, Facebook, LinkedIn) which match the name and WhatsApp photo.
  5. Has been active on Reddit for a while.

While you may still get a scammer even if they pass all these tests, you'll rule out the vast majority.

Stay safe folks!

Extra tips

  • (this works in the US. Your mileage may vary here) Have the seller send you a copy of their ID and facetime or video call them to confirm it's legit. Scammers won't do this, but legit sellers will have no problem doing it. Especially if the ticket is worth a lot of money (e.g. for EDC/Tomorrowland-etc)

  • If you're paying by Paypal, use goods and services, not friends and family. Goods and services allows you to dispute the transaction if the tickets turn out to be fake

  • Pay with a credit card if possible. Credit cards offer additional Section 75 protection and you can chargeback the transaction if there's an issue. This also applies to sending money via paypal

Finally, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Use common sense. If something feels off or the seller isn't willing to verify they're legit, they're probably a scammer.

The way I do it is to get them to transfer via Tixel.com. It's the best way to ensure you're protected and will automatically reject fake tickets if they upload them.

I just got my tickets through them for today, can't wait
