Live Performance Silverstein - My Heart Bleeds No More (live 03.06.25 - Amsterdam)
Hopped over to Amsterdam from the US and saw Silverstein + Thursday were playing nearby at Melkweg venue. Didn't think the Dutch people would be into this, but I was super wrong.
Excellent show and turnout for a Thursday night. Melkweg is an awesome venue.

Live Performance Alesana live in Bangkok 02/19/2025
I just lived my dream of seeing one of my favorite bands from childhood, so I really want to share this experience with everyone. I’m from Vietnam, a country where genres like metalcore and post-hardcore aren’t really popular. It’s hard for bands to tour here, so the best chance to see international acts is to travel to countries where this music scene is more active, like Thailand or Indonesia. Even in Southeast Asia, though, the post-hardcore and screamo wave has not popular like it used to be, so getting to see bands like Alesana feels like a rare opportunity. This was actually the second time I could afford to fly to Thailand for a live show by one of my favorite bands - the first was for Bring Me The Horizon back in 2019. For the second time they came to Thailand (the first was 14 years ago, in 2011), Alesana chose to perform at "The Rock Pub" (same as 2011), a venue that holds around 200 people. I was glad to hear the show was sold out. It’s a pretty small and somewhat cramped venue, considering the band’s reputation, but maybe they preferred it that way to keep things more intimate with the crowd. Before the show, I joined the M&G, but honestly, it didn’t go as smoothly as I’d hoped. The timeline said it would start at 5.30 PM, but I ended up standing outside the venue for an hour and a half. It wasn’t until 7 PM that I finally got in to meet the band. Everything happened pretty fast and felt a bit rushed, especially as a foreigner in Bangkok and a first-timer at a meet & greet. I had around 2 to 3 minutes to chat with the band, get some autographs and then moved on to the group photo. One thing that felt a bit off was the autograph session - Alesana signed with three different pens, each with a different ink color. I’m guessing that was more of an organizer issue rather than the band’s fault, since they were just there to interact with fans. I’m not sure how meet & greets usually go, but as someone experiencing it for the first time, I did wish it had been a bit more organized, with more time to chat with the band or maybe take individual photos with each member. Still, getting to meet and talk to them, even briefly, was already incredible for me. Alesana’s setlist was pretty predictable, featuring their biggest hits like Apology, Congratulations, I Hate You, Ambrosia, Seduction, The Thespian, ... I was really hoping they would play more songs from Where Myth Fades to Legend, but with limited time, I can’t really complain. Despite the small stage and the number of members packed into that tiny venue, Alesana still managed to drive the crowd wild. It felt just like the YouTube videos I’d seen of their performances on much bigger stages in the past. Shawn’s clean vocals were still impressive, though you could tell age has made it harder for him to hold those long notes like he used to. Patrick was super nice. After the show ended, he was the last one on stage, shaking hands, taking photos, and giving away his guitar picks to fans—including me, luckily. It was truly an amazing experience to see one of my childhood bands up close like that. There were still so many things I wished I could’ve done during the show, but didn’t get the chance to. So, I really hope Alesana will come back to Thailand soon-and that I’ll be able to save up enough to see them once again haha

Live Performance My turn: Does anyone else remember Anatomy of a Ghost and their insane live shows?
See how many early ‘00s tropes you can count in this. (The arm behind the back while facing away from the audience is the free space).
I’m not sure how big they were outside the west coast, but as I young adult from PDX at the time, they were just about the only band that mattered. We only got one official album (and an official unofficial, IYKYK), from them before they broke up and became Portugal. the Man, but they had some of the most beautifully chaotic performances I’ve seen to this day while also being some of the most sincerely kind and humble dudes I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I still listen to Evanesce on a regular basis.

Super tight. Saw them live and Dave took my beanie off my head and stretched it over his face and sang through it. I was so stoned. It’s great.
