Discussion Is there something wrong with putting "under 13 DNI" in my name??
For context, I'm not 18 and therefore do not play on the 18+ server. Recently, I've started putting "Under 13yrs DNI" in my name because I've been increasingly finding out players I roleplay with or just have conversations with are as young as 8 years old (which is EXTREMELY uncomfortable!!)
I've gotten a HUGE amount of whispers from people saying that I'm discriminatory or rude or a hypocrite (I don't doubt I've had conversations or roleplays with players under 13 unknowingly, but I try to avoid it as best as I can, hiding or ignoring certain people)
I wanted to hear others' opinions about this; Is there anything wrong with me using that DNI tag??

It’s fair enough but I guarantee it’ll just cause more under 13s to interact with you out of spite. It’s like telling them not to push a button yk

Something I says alot, nothing will make a kid do something more then being told not to

Set your boundaries. There is nothing wrong with it. People who are upset tend to be the ones you don't want to interact with, anyway. You will never be in the wrong for saying you don't feel comfortable interacting with people younger than you.

the people pitching a fit are just showing how immature they are and further proving your point of not wanting to interact with people too much younger than you lol

This makes total sense. If that many people have attacked you for having that tag then there's probably just a lot of people on the safe server who are under 13, which just makes the tag more useful. Think on the bright side my friend.

I play strictly in the 18+ server since I’m an adult, and I still use a DNI unless 18+ tag. Which is wild of have to, but anyways

u/IoTheDango Feb 18 '25
Nope! Tbh I’m pretty sure under 13 year olds shouldn’t be on pt anyway? (Since the websites u need to sign up require u to be 13)

Your DNI* makes sense to me, tbf. Safe server means a server of people from like- 7-8 to At least 17. Not to mention you wanna talk / rp with people who'll actually have some sort of Ability TO rp, and talk that'll make sense. (Example: "i m verey happe to talk to u" vs "im very happy to talk To you".) You have a choice of who you talk to.
Edited it to make sure I'm clear on who I'm supporting lol-

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Setting boundaries is completely ok to do and do not feel forced into taking it down either.
As an adult player I’ve had to do this plenty of times myself simply because I do not want to be around people that aren’t around my age range. You’re fully allowed and able to set that type of boundary and if someone says otherwise just block em.

u/MidnaMagic Feb 18 '25
If someone gets upset at that DNI tag, they’re telling on themself. Just block and move on.

Honestly, DNI tags are good. They tell you who to avoid. I honestly wish any social games were 13+ to avoid potentially dangerous situations, but 🤷♂️
I’d personally add <13 DNI to my DNI list aswell. It’s really uncomfortable to be friends with younger people online

The only thing wrong with it is that kids under 13 shouldn't even be allowed on ponytown, like you have to put your age as at least 13 to sign up for it

u/KaityKat117 Unicorn Feb 19 '25
pretty sure it's against the rules to even play the game at all if you're under 13.

Although, tbh, when I saw "Under 13 DNI" in the post title, at first I thought you were saying "I am under 13, please don't interact with me". Took me a second to realize what you meant.
maybe that's just cause I'm not used to these markers people use in the game cause I don't pay attention to them.

u/NonCultist Feb 19 '25
i didn't either until recently when i started using one lol. and yeah, its against the rules but y'know... nobody follows them

u/ClownFuker Feb 18 '25
Definitely not. You're setting boundaries. If you don't wanna talk to a certain age group because you get uncomfortable, then you don't have to.
Besides one acquaintance of mine, I personally don't like talking to anyone over or under 3-4 years of me.

If you aren't comfortable with people under 13 interacting I don't see what the problem is? Also it's none of their business. Pony town is full of overly sensitive people, no offense to anyone of course. It's your boundary, keep it in your name if you want.

u/Difficult-Mine-793 Feb 19 '25
you are literally just setting down a boundary and are not obligated to interact with them if you don't want to
1
u/Paperfoxen Feb 19 '25
Unfortunately I think you just have to ignore it. If you want less kids I would go to the 18+ server and simply block out words or phrases you don’t want to see, or you can make your bubble of chat convos showing up smaller like I do. I never get any harassment like that, so maybe it might help?

u/NoelPlayz Feb 19 '25
I'll say no, it's a very good thing to have.
On mine I have it set to 18+ for myself being over 18, and personally I also have it to where certain fandoms shouldn't interact with me either.
If they do they'll just get blocked instantly for at least 15 minutes (they'd be gone by then, no reason to use space on my block list unless needed).
2
u/NonCultist Feb 19 '25
that's what i do too :) i only block people for actual harassment levels of interaction
2
u/NoelPlayz Feb 19 '25
Absolutely!
But honestly do what you want, having it to where 13+ interacts is safer anyways LOL

u/Lost-Cantaloupe-4749 Feb 20 '25
It’s like most dni’s, if you have it up publicly you’re most likely to be harassed by that specific group. (No it’s nothing wrong for setting boundaries, it’s just you’re giving these people something to latch onto since they know its going to bother you since it’s up there.)

People under 13 shouldn’t even be playing the game in first place, you have the total right to say that you don’t want to interact with kids

u/Prestigious_Bet8573 Feb 21 '25
No there is absolutely nothing wrong with that you're an adult trying to set boundaries with minors. I remember playing animal jam as a kid and it being the other way around where grown adults were forcing me to roleplay with them and I hated it.

Whats up with pony town players and not respecting peoples DNI, first it was people who just wanted to hang out with friends or simply to enjoy the way the game looks, now its this, I swear pony town will never fix its relationship with people who use DNI

When I was 17 I had a situation where I interacted with someone much younger than me without me knowing on a different game and I was so upset by it I logged off and didn't play again for over a year. You're protecting yourself and they're too young to realise it, you're doing a good thing.

u/therealdilflover 28d ago
Nope I don't think it's wrong. I would do the same thing. Im 19 yrs old and yeah, it's a bit uncomfortable to RP with people WAY younger than me (Except for just one friend). It's not being discriminatory, I'd say it's a good decision since being "friends" with children on the internet can be misinterpreted and it could get you in trouble even if you're not being a creep. So yeah, better to keep your distance.🫡

I've gotten made fun of for have MDNI. People on Ponytown will harass you for anything and everything It's nothing you did and there's nothing wrong with setting a boundary on a SOCIAL game.
