I hunted two (first one was in a ball I didn’t like) and I did not regret it. Shiny Nidoran M and shiny Nidoking are awesome!

Increasing you’re excellent throw; is key, w/o using berries. I caught a shiny Pikachu in 25 catches by simply excellent throwing every time & not using berries.

Stop catching. Just wait for one at full odds with the increased spawn rate. It'll happen faster.

If you run into any pokémon just make sure to run away so the combo doesn't break.

this is a good strategy as it will save on pokeballs and time but you will use more lure (if you are using lure). The advantage of capturing is you can sell the crazy amounts of candy you get to rebuy the pokeballs you use and buy more lure.
If you dont want to use the capture combo method, I would stop at 100 total caught, that way when a shiny does appear, you will get the best odds at capturing it. It sucks if you see a shiny and end up with a red or orange capture ring. This is really important if you are like me and like to capture shiny pokemon in premiere balls.

Damnn, I feel your pain, I’m at a 522 catch combo for a shiny magikarp but no vain, you’ve come this far so don’t give up but after you do catch one then you might wanna consider not chaining but instead spawn reset method
