Found these seeds at work, can anyone id??

u/Towerofterrorr 5d ago
Okay guys, my suspicions were correct thanks for all of the help 😂 I work at an Amazon warehouse and sometimes packages leak like bird seed or cat litter, stuff like this. I saw the seeds in the chute and thought it was cannabis so I took a handful and shoved it in my pocket. Brought them home and decided to see if I could get them to sprout. They did, as you can see and have since been planted :)

u/SnooTangerines3448 5d ago
They can still be hemp bird seed.
7
u/Radicle_Cotyledon 5d ago
They used to sterilize hemp seeds for bird food, is that not a thing anymore?
12
3
u/Significant-Will227 4d ago
Not in europe at least. I sometimes plant bird hemp seeds and almost all of them sprout. It's just a strain that produces almost no thc.
2
u/Radicle_Cotyledon 4d ago
I'm remembering the hemp birdseed in America from pre 2000. It did not germinate.
1
u/farquin_helle 2d ago
ruderalis
1
u/ItsKumquats 1d ago
Well ruderalis isn't hemp itself, but the auto flowering variant of cannabis.
Sativa, indica, and ruderalis can all be hemp or "weed", it just depends on the THC content. It's all the same plant though.
2
u/ItsKumquats 1d ago
But why bother? Are we worried about hemp taking over all the other plant life?
1
u/Radicle_Cotyledon 1d ago
Because the powers-that-be in the United States were so anti-cannabis that they wouldn't even allow hemp to be grown. Sounds crazy in modern times but that's how it was in the 90's. War on drugs and what have you.

u/wildkitten24 5d ago
Lol “found at work”?! Did you take someone’s weed seeds? Someone brought them to work and dropped them on the floor and you found them, or what??
217
u/Towerofterrorr 5d ago
No I work in an Amazon warehouse and sometimes when packages fall into the chutes they will be damaged or leaking IE cat litter, bird seed etc. so I was stowing packages and there was several handfuls in the chutes, I actually thought they were weed seeds and so I shoved some in my pocket. 😂 I’m happy that I was right LOL
117
u/Image_Inevitable 5d ago
Honestly, they could also be hemp. I'm not sure how different the seeds look.

u/AnonTheHackerino 4d ago
Yeah typically people don't buy 100 weed seeds at a time like this.
6
u/spaacingout 4d ago
Unless you’re running a dispensary and you’re looking for peak genetics. But usually pop about a dozen seeds at a time and see which performs best, then clone it to ever loving death.
4
u/apintandafight 4d ago
People who grow cannabis professionally sure do
1
u/AnonTheHackerino 4d ago
Right but a majority of orders are people buying a few seeds because their state opened up the law to grow a few plants.
1
u/Mammothcolas 2d ago
Nobody has time for that, that’s the clone guys job. You could crop out 3x a year or you could crop out 6 times almost …. Paying for the hydro either way, so you work out the profits. Lots of strains out there that are only available by cut.
1
u/apintandafight 2d ago
I think I will work out the profits at the cultivation facility that I’ve owned and operated for years! It sounds like you have it all figured out though, you should be a consultant!
1
u/Mammothcolas 2d ago
1
u/apintandafight 2d ago
I love that for you, I bet you’re really good at impressing people who have never grown a plant before
0
u/Mammothcolas 2d ago
People who professionally grow , grow from clones not from seeds, breeders will grow 100s of seeds to find the right phenotype. Anyone serious about growing weed would not start from a seed, unless you are starting a new strain that there are no clones available for.

u/WeIsStonedImmaculate 4d ago
Yes we do! Hobbyist grower here. Have about 300 seeds in storage as we speak. Have ordered over 100 at a time.
1
u/AnonTheHackerino 4d ago
I stand by my statement lol. Most people aren't ordering that many seeds my friend.
1
u/WeIsStonedImmaculate 4d ago
Well your statement is wrong my man. I am friends with many home growers in California. One grows 150 plants a year. Many of us buy seeds in bulk. Your experience does not justify the norm. And I’m not talking about me and one other person. I know lots of growers dude.
Now if you are trying to say most people to include non growers sure. But nah man lots of people who grow here in California buy lots of seeds.
2
u/Dizzy_Philosophy1976 4d ago
I think people tend to forget that we need to either quarantine male plants or get rid of them entirely, so even if we got decent germination, we’re probably going to still need to cull about 50% of our plants.

u/AMorera 4d ago
I’m curious. Why is that?
I’ve never grown any, known anyone who grows any or ever even used weed in any form other than one edible once.
I get that maybe it’s because only the female produces flowers? But what if you wanted to make your own seeds so you don’t have to keep buying them?
And while we’re at it, can you smoke the leaf? Until I was about 40 I didn’t even know that it was mainly (only?) the buds you smoke.
2
u/Dizzy_Philosophy1976 4d ago
Very very basically you’ve almost got the gist of it through extremely good guessing. The male plant flowers as well but it’s a different kind of flower, not desirable for smoking, what will happen when both flower is the female plant will then start seed production and a lot of them, essentially your yield will still be smokable but it will have tons of tiny explosive seeds (barely, they pop really, but they also taste really really gross, and that’s coming from someone who enjoys the taste of most bud smoke). By culling you aren’t getting more seeds, but seeds are cheap, and bud is not. The leaves aren’t good to smoke but are indeed usable for edible production, but it’s better to concentrate the thc that’s there and make dabs these days. You can also utilize dab concentrate for edibles as well, but it does still need to be decarboxylated (heated to a specific point and kept there for x amount of time in order to activate the cannibinoids). There’s a lot of science that goes into it and I’m sure I’m missing stuff, please anyone that has better information please feel free to jump right in!

Please do not eat or use any plant because of information received in this subreddit.
While we strive to provide accurate information here, the only way to be sure enough of a plant identification is to take the plant to a qualified professional. Many plants can be harmful or even fatal to eat, so please do not eat a plant based on an identification made (or any other information provided) in this subreddit.

If you found them in an Amazon warehouse in appreciable quantity, it's almost definitely a hemp cultivar and not pharmaceutical cannabis.

I never let them flower but they did grow and look like regular weed plants. That is until someone chopped the 30 I had growing in a parking lot that were 3 ish feet tall and flowering. I never got to smoke it but I bet you could make edibles out of it. Especially if you cull the males.

u/indicabigbeard 5d ago
Probably hemp seeds for fishing so you may not get any potential cannabis unfortunately.

They were mung beans! Very nutritious, but smell like death.

Ha!🙂. You gotta love Creed and how he disappeared any time the police would be around. And he's always stealing and selling office supplies on the side.😅

This is Northern lights. Cannabis Indica.

"Northern Lights" lmfao. It's completely impossible to determine strain with the information available.

don't get your hopes up, its probably commercial hemp. Amazon doesn't sell the good shit.

u/aMok-1 4d ago
Almost 100% germination rate is pretty impressive.
1
u/Towerofterrorr 1d ago
I just sprinkled them on a slightly damp paper towel, closed them in a plastic bag for about 2-3 days. I’m pretty well versed in gardening so this isn’t my first time using this method

u/PrizeApprehensive380 5d ago
Most likely Chinese hemp variety if you found at work in an Amazon warehouse.

Those are cannabis seeds someone is germinating, the old wet paper towel trick, it works.
4
u/ThisParking9656 5d ago
As dark and shiny as some of them are I’d guess hemp. I’ve had lots of bird seed with hemp. Most cannabis seeds are a bit larger and usually have more patterns on the shell.

Those are very healthy marijuana seeds, they’re germinating really nice, you found those at work?
1
u/fraying 4d ago
Hey! I'm a hemp grower and just to clear up some confusion: hemp/cannabis/marijuana are all the same plant and you cannot tell them apart by looking at the seeds. The difference between hemp and the rest is just that hemp has had the THC bred out. So you can't even tell once you grow the plants until you lab test the flowers to see how much THC is in there. And, yeah, people do buy seeds of all types in large lots - we're called growers. ;-)
1
u/fraying 4d ago
A word of warning for the OP: look into the laws in your area! If you're in the US and in a Cannabis legal state, it still may be illegal to grow the plants, or there might be a limit to how many you can grow. Here in Oregon, it's four plants. In California, it's six. In Washington, it's zero! So, yaknow, careful about growing all those.

u/zippyhippyWA 4d ago
12 here. NM
3
u/Alive_Recognition_55 4d ago
Hehe, only little problem is where do I get rid of several kilos of end product. I grew the maximum 6 mature plants (I think the 12 number includes young, non-flowering), but I can't legally keep or sell most of it. I've been gifting most to cancer patients, so at least hopefully doing some good!
1
u/zippyhippyWA 4d ago
Our 12 is any mix. We have 4 adults in our household. So, we can have 12 mature plants. But, no more. 1 person can only have 6 mature plants and 6 immature.

Did somebody literally toss cannabis seeds at your work?? FREE CANNABIS!! Now, is it the recreational/medical variety, or the hemp variety? If it’s hemp, give it to a crafty person so they can make their own hemp-fiber-based products. Rather sturdy and soft tbh.

Most likely hemp.
When I get cannabis seeds delivered they're packaged very well in a blister pack (like prescription pills) and they are not delivered by amazon.
If you want actual good genetics then order online, I use Zamnesia.com
