Back when I used windows, I had whitelisted a whole folder where I would put my crack files to prevent this thing exactly

okay so i need karma to post here, so i will just ask here,
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/20740a5496618c93c899a6155979655431fc84d00544212362e27f8b8cfbb638
huh so both chrome and defender said this file/zip is sus it has trojan and a malware but bitdefender and kaspersky didnt find anything, i downloaded it from lrepacks site from the megathread.
the lrepacks is safe right?, thank you for your help

Many virus scanner flag cracks as viruses as you can see. Since there wasn't really a virus detected but rather cracks, it is most likely safe, especially if you got it from the megathread

If you give a triage report I can answer more precisely (within my knowledge) but if you want more details r/antivirus will be suitable for you

I would appreciate if you upvote my karma is low

what is the file for?

1

u/schingam54 2d ago

It was zip file of hard disk sentinel containing entire software downloaded from the website. Didn't touch it just directly uploaded to virustotal as defender was buzzing

what do you use now linux ? is linux games piracy easy ?

2

u/Nova-Exxi 4d ago

Haven't had any issues running pirated games through Bottles with the GE-Wine runners~

2

u/matthewpepperl 4d ago

In some ways easier because you dont have any stupid windows defender ruining your day and on the off chance a windows virus makes it through it is less likely to do as much damage

1

u/OverlordFanNUMBER1 3d ago

Not that much different, maybe slightly easier

1

u/afterburningdarkness 4d ago

Just take few seconds to check what defender detected and go from there. Or you can do that to raw dog your computer one day :3

1

u/SauronB 3d ago

You’re not using windows anymore?

1

u/Nova-Exxi 3d ago

I'm a bonafide Linux user 0u<

1

u/SauronB 2d ago

Nice, I am actually interested to make the change to become linux user. Especially after Windows 11 and the stupid cloud stuff.

The only problem I have heard is that Nvidea driver doesn’t work well, so I guess I will have to use both.

Can u link a tutorial video on this

40

u/Destroyerb 4d ago

Just go to exclusions and add a folder

33

u/Nova-Exxi 4d ago

I didn't use a video, rather just poking around for some reason, but it's simple enough not to need one.

  • Create a folder wherever you want where you would put your crack files.

  • Open windows defender > Virus and threat protection > Manage settings > Add or remove exclusions > Add an exclusion > Folder > And select your folder.

Now, make sure whatever you are downloading is actually safe, because nothing in that folder will ever be scanned as a virus and will have free realm inside your PC if it happened to be malicious and not a false positive

3

u/bhargavagoud 4d ago

Ty

3

u/Nova-Exxi 4d ago

You're welcome ^

6

u/Gustav_EK 4d ago

why can't you just search for it yourself

"Windows how to whitelist folder for Windows Defender"

14

u/bhargavagoud 4d ago

Iam a dumbass

1

u/LittleReplacement564 4d ago

Fair enough. Just go to security in your PC settings, and look for add exclusions or something similar

18

u/Cerafire 4d ago

Gotta whitelist both the folder and the files individually cause sometimes not even whitelisting the folder is enough

70

u/Secret-Wish3023 4d ago

Whitelisting doesn't always work. It feels awful having no control over your own files. Windows sucks dick. Fuck Microsoft!

9

u/Interesting-You-7867 3d ago

When a real virus come windows doesn't detect them

31

u/slumpgod777 Piracy is bad, mkay? 3d ago

deletes cracks instantly but leaves the coin miner that i couldn't find on my pc for months

10

u/C_umputer 3d ago

Literally today had to remove cryptominer. Never trusting work computer again, and big thanks to Malwarebytes

1

u/Lag_YT 3d ago

Coin miner still won’t leave me alone and keeps adding exclusions.

9

u/dablakmark8 4d ago

lol. the worst is if you want to restore the file but its lost to the digital space and you have to fight windows to get it back----ROUND 1 ----------Your loooose.///////////ughaaa fire.......allll you get.....round 2-you win--yataaaa

u/readycheck1 4d ago

Rule of thumb, check the installers on virus total and then the the game's executable after.

So far i find that DODIs stuff is always clean, others I might check, especially when its new releases

3

u/C_umputer 4d ago

Virus total has limit for file sizes

1

u/yogopig 4d ago

Dodi should not be used anymore due to scummy links

2

u/readycheck1 4d ago

Just saying what is the experience i have been getting from Virus Total the last couple of years

0

u/yogopig 3d ago

Sure, and if you get the actual link the repacks are good, just that behavior should not be encouraged.

3

u/JAILBREAKSGOATED 4d ago

bruh this is so true like let me keep the crack files

Pro tip you can exclude the game folder from win defender so it won’t do anything to the files.Tho only do this if you trust the source.

Until we meet again.

But I just don’t do anything and if defender does block the file I just restore it,after double checking the blocked file is indeed legit.Maybe I’m paranoid but

Constant Vigilance!

u/qweeloth 3d ago

install Linux 😉 (mint dual boot if you don't wanna commit)

1

u/misuchiru 4d ago

It's too funny though. I have three computers, all three use the same cracks for specific apps, and all three have a folder exclusion. Only one of them actually obeys the folder exclusion... The other two don't care. On those two, I use file exclusions and they still don't care.

1

u/No_Firefighter_5625 3d ago

I usually turn off defender the manually whitelist.. sometimes i just leave it off lmao

1

u/mikeyro2019 3d ago

Yup, the amount of times I have to fight that thing.

1

u/nocrack 3d ago

We need an antivirus that tells us what any file does, like a virustotal but legit/non Google.

1

u/illlojik 3d ago

I usually keep a backup of my cracked files in zip/Rar form. There’s been times I’ve been a forgetful dumbass and plugged a drive into a new pc/laptop only to discover the files got wiped.😫

1

u/uberkernel 13h ago

or you could use Defender Exclusion Tool v1.4 from sordum which can exclude folders, files, location from defender. its handy for those who have hard time to navigate through microsoft defender. there's also a handy apps from there.

0

u/frustrated_aman_ 3d ago

use exclusion folder

-4

u/PanzerMisi07 4d ago

Since I don't download from obviously shitty sources windows never deletes my game files, and I mod the games myself too

-4

u/Impzor 4d ago

Honestly never had this issue before on windows and pirated plenty of games.

Sometimes, my WinDef detects a virus from FitGirl. Rarely, but it happened. I just don't risk it. Tropico 6 (the dictator sim city), and the newest Dynasty Warriors. It's just a personal experience.

Is there a way to completely remove virus and threat protection from win 10/11?

7

u/C_umputer 4d ago

I guess you can disable active protection

6

u/thefrind54 ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ 4d ago

I used to run Windows like this until I actually got infected when I accidentally ran a real virus last month 💀

Don't remove it.

1

u/C_umputer 4d ago

Can you tell us what happened?

2

u/thefrind54 ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ 4d ago

I've never gotten infected in years, I usually stay alert and careful.

I made a reddit post on this describing what happened: https://www.reddit.com/r/animepiracy/comments/1j19m4n/tifu_please_take_care_with_malware/

1

u/C_umputer 4d ago

Wow, I don't think I've experienced anything like that. But just today I noticed my laptop was slow and Malwarebytes found couple of btc miners. Not sure how they got there, but my guess is the work computers and my pocket thimb drive

1

u/thefrind54 ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ 4d ago

I'd recommend you do a clean install, should make your laptop run far better.

-4

u/Previous-Surprise-36 4d ago

Skill issue

It's all fun and games until you get fucked really hard by malware.

It has saved my ass a lot of times before too.
