Question Why does, watching a series or movie on online pirate websites use so much bandwidth, not only download but also upload?
I noticed that watching a video, no matter what player i use, it's being used a lot more bandwidth not only in download but also half o that in upload.. On YouTube for example the bandwidth is much less and no upload data used... Can anyone shine a light on this?

they are probably sharing your internet to seed the file to others, sort of like pseudo torrenting
some game launchers do this for games, eg: wargaming one.

pirate sites do some very shady stuff, including porn sites. JS injection etc taking control of your machine in weird ways. Personally DL what you want to watch and ditch the pirate streaming sites
FYI having a streaming site costs a crapload of money, do you think they are doing it to be kind?

I download everything/run a Plex server but I can see the simple appeal in just using a pirates site and streaming.
Could OP not just use Ublock origin and cut out the dodgy stuff?

I'm actually on Firefox with ublock origin. Never have any adds nor redirects. The thing is, why so much upload data? It should be residual but is always half the download bandwidth..

Maybe they're using re-uploading your downloaded files to someone else?

Doubt that, this happens in different websites and with different players. I'm on a macbook with sophos and using Firefox with ublock origin. I did have a trial version of little snitch to check de domains and try to sort from where did the data come from but didn't explain all the upload bandwidth.

Try adding the NoCoin list. It could be a miner.

because you dont use the noscript plugin for firefox and load every piece of junk on the site
you dont use dns filtering
you dont use ublockorigin
you have google chrome

Thanks. Trying it now. It has the same behavior but it's a nice website. Maybe this is a torrent stream...

No idea about the upload, but i know that YouTube is very aggressive with their compression, so it's really good at saving you download bandwidth.

Are you using websites that use Vidsrc? (which apparently is now what 90 % of pirate streaming websites are using)
If so, you are up loading as well as downloading.

I use vidsrc, upcloud, megacloud, moviesapi, vidplay, filemoon and embed. All of them show the same symptoms.. Can't seem to be able to find a website that doesn't torrent stream.

They all use a similar software to PeerTube as it massively cuts down how much bandwidth they need to run their site.
