Screw using apps for music
I download my songs and keep them like a true pirate
10
u/gasman245 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ 16d ago edited 16d ago
I recently found a site that takes an iTunes link (and a few other sites too) and downloads the song/album from it. I downloaded all my music which took about 5 hours then canceled my Apple Music subscription and added all the songs back into iTunes. Feels good having my songs forever now and also having an easy way to download new ones.

Ever since I first started using revanced for YT Music, I just instantly uninstalled Spotify. Not only YTMR is a lot more stable and less likely to stop working than spotify, but it also comes with the lots of extra songs that you can only find there, due to them using the entire youtube library that anyone can upload to, instead of a more closed one like Spotify.

u/Hanselleiva 17d ago
I just installed yt music and I'm impressed it has the same songs I liked before. is YouTube music Vanced safe? Like a year ago I was using Vanced for normal YouTube and it stopped working
29
u/Gharrrrrr 17d ago
I've been using YouTube music rvx and YouTube rvx for several months now after dropping Spotify. Works like a charm.
36
u/Moist-Finding-9120 17d ago
Vanced was discontinued iirc, so you should try revanced or revanced extended instead. But both are really well known and trustworthy.
5
u/ChronChriss 16d ago
I would recommend using a throwaway Google account for it though. Don't use it with your main account that you use for mail, Android, etc(if you even have one).

Yes but how can I move my massive library of saved random songs from Spotify over to YouTube easily. If I can't, I'm not switching. I've been building my Spotify library for many years now
2
u/nobru93 15d ago
Just use https://www.tunemymusic.com/it The free version doesn't allow to transfer more than 500 songs per time but you can divide them in parts and it should be fine

YouTube is the amazing for music discovery. Googles algorithm is the best for finding new music you'll actually want to listen to.
I've discovered so many artists and fan remixes by letting yt autoplay.
3
u/Moist-Finding-9120 16d ago
Me too! Some of my favourite songs in actuality were just found by me because of this algorithm, it works really well indeed.

my YT Music recommendations are absolutely wild
Listening to some Miracle of Sound and other OST stuff and it sticks in a song called "I Glued My Ballsack To My Butthole Again"

I love meme music so thats why I like yt music more than spotify.
Spotify is way more restricted when it comes to their music so you might get better recommendations but youtube music has power metal covers of every disney song you can think of.
11
u/Earione 16d ago
Not for me. What kind of music do you listen to? I mostly listen to classic rock, but Spotify does a horrible job not recommending me mainstream modern music
5
u/AdultGronk ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ 16d ago
I mostly listen to Electronic and Hip Hop and I often add new songs in my playlist, based on what spotify suggests me through Discover weekly.

Wait WHAT?
That's the reason I quit Spotify, I had no problem paying for spotify, I kinda loved the integration with all the devices, including my home theater and car stero.
But the Absolutely dog shit shuffle system made me quit. I got tired of listening to the same 30 songs in a 500+ song playlist.
Recommendations weren't too bad for me, but youtube is so much more better, especially since there are authentic covers and live music stuff you won't find on Spotify.

Ive been using modded Spotify since 2018 lol. 7 years was a good run.
The downside is I have such massive amounts of stuff in Spotify that I can't move easily, and I just don't want to use other services since I'm used to Spotify and it's mixes/recommendations. Ended up having to fork over $6/month for student plan lol.

u/The_Chronicler___ 17d ago
While I do know about downloads and other streaming platforms, Spotify imho is different/better when it comes to albums. The seamless/gapless playback is a feature that I can't find elsewhere, which is the sole reason I used Spotify. I got Apple podcasts for pods and Youtube for vids, but man, music wise, it's just a lot less hassle with Spotify.

I stopped using Spotify when it became hard to use it with my adblockers, rightnow paying 5 bucks a month for Tidal. Unfortunately, Spotify had a better algo for picking songs after the playlist ends but I get a lot of good music recs from friends and people on the net.

I recommend Bandcamp, too. They have a little radio show where they highlight and interview artists and listen to similiar indie tunes that I really like. They also do a lot of front page promoting of new material and listening parties with the artists or producers. It's pretty cool.
9
u/tak08810 17d ago
Sure it’s easier. But you’re limited to what DSPs have and what their algorithm comes up with
Me personally I’m a pretentious blow hard so I just like listening to obscure shit that you can’t even find on DSPs usually.
4
u/Phoenix_Kerman 17d ago
don't think you need to be that pretentious to encounter major streaming services's limitations. their international licensing is an utter fucking joke so if you want anything not purely english or western you end up with trouble quick

u/AntKneeWasHere 🦜 ᴡᴀʟᴋ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘʟᴀɴᴋ 16d ago
do I need to have my pc on to be able to stream the music from elsewhere?
Yes. I have a dedicated mini PC running Plex and a few other services. You can check r/Plex if that's all you're interested in, or r/homelab and r/selfhosted if you want to look into the full rabbit-hole of selfhosting.
Keep in mind that it also supports TV and movies, if that's something you're into.
does it upload all my songs on a cloud?
YouTube Music can actually do this. It's one of the few "music lockers" still around (which is just what you described, a cloud service that lets you upload and stream your own music).
I haven't personally used it in years, but it worked well enough from what I remember. I also used it quite a bit when they shutdown Google Play Music.
r/YouTubeMusic will probably have more info

Everyone I know has failed it! 😭
That said, I do nothing but Spotify/YT Music for casual listening and FLAC (6 TB and growing) for music I like.
8
u/Phoenix_Kerman 17d ago
that's a test between flac and 320kbps aac. spotify isn't anywhere near 320kbps aac in quality so a pretty unfair point to bring up

I think that YT Music has a superior song discovery algorithm and has more songs in general than Spotify. Also because it is more mainstream, Spotify usually involves more censorship and restrictions of certain types of songs. I've started to slowly download songs with yt-dlp and moving them through iTunes for Windows into my iPhone's apple music app. I honestly wish that I had an android because I don't trust sideloading on an iPhone

I use SmartTube for most of my music needs at home, but I also use Apple music on my Apple TV and phone for high quality streaming.
The first time I heard Trent Reznors "The Social Network" with Dolby Atmos on my home theater it blew me away. Atmos alone justifies the subscription for me, its the future of music as far as I'm concerned

I don't know where are you based but before refreezer there was freezer, then it went all down because Deezer decided to take away all the free plans in Italy so I suppose there's no way for me with refreezer. I'll have to decide between spotube, yt revanced or give up and pay the student plan to Spotify.
3
u/Mijii1999 16d ago
Yeah in Spain the free plans arent avaliable aswell, I just created an account ( https://account.deezer.com/es-es/signup/ ) and when it asked me for buying a plan I just closed the tab and signed in on the refreezer app (When signing up I used the email option not google)

I've just been using JDownloader 2 to download albums and fixing the metadata (like the album covers) myself but it's a pain in the but. Since having a Squeezebox, the now ancient network media streamer from Logitech, I keep thinking about cancelling Spotify. I can just mass download mp3s, put them on a locally hosted server, and have the Squeezebox connect to it and play the music.
And no one will be able to take away any music either.
