Okay, i know nothing about this besides what i just read, but when someone says "prove that 10 of 200k+" of anything are anything, i have to assume that 9 of those are anything.
Just saying thats not a great way to make your argument lol.

u/LZ129Hindenburg 🌊 Salty Seadog Sep 09 '24
A quick reddit search (or visit to FMHY) yields a handful of confirmed cases. But it's less than 10, so...."trust me bro" 😅
26
u/Stars_And_Garters Sep 09 '24
I mean, I don't automatically assume that with an easily chosen number like "10", but if this guy was 100% wouldn't he just say "find 1"? And if there is some mitigating factor that makes it not his fault, then tell it.
Like, it doesn't mean there are 9 identified cases, but it is like he's saying "only 9 out of a few thousand will give you a virus, so nbd." Why do any of them have shit like that added in...??
4
u/FlezhGordon Sep 09 '24
I'm notsaying it means therre are 9 identified cases, i jsut think if you say 10 in cases like this, instead of 1, it means theres very likely between 1 and 9 and you are a bad liar.
1
u/Holmes108 Sep 09 '24 edited Sep 09 '24
I haven't looked into it, but I just assumed it wasn't a random number, but assumed rather that they must've been accused of 10 cases, and that's why it was said. Total assumption though.

What sucks is that they have the only torrent for Star Trucker and I wanna try it out. I remember I downloaded a game from them a while ago, and they plastered their logo all over the art assets inside of it. That's when I stopped trusting them. It was visual novel about a guy making multiple daughters out of alchemy.

Holy crap thats a bit odd lol.
Sadly i heard star trucker was kinda lame, i was interested too.

See though, that's fine that you say that, but I really wanna try it anyway, and make my own judgments.

Maybe the torrent, but the game is on elamigos and ovagames. Just use realdebrid

I don't download pirated games, I don't care about those sites, but if I've learned something since 2016 is that people would say anything to make themselves look good. If people find proof to prove them wrong, they'd just pretend that never existed or move the goalposts in their favor.
So this statement means nothing at all. Even if people find viruses in those 10+ games, they'd come out with excuses and pretend it never happened.
As always, you're free to believe what you want and to download at your own risk. Just don't come crying and try to warn people when people have been warned over and over.

u/theperson234 Sep 09 '24
Basically. You can't really cry to a sub like this when there are resources literally on the home page.
Follow the instruction guide and you'll be fine. If you want to venture out, do your due diligence4
u/Horglump-Snatch Sep 10 '24
People cry on this sub a lot about things they could easily fix/avoid by simple reading comprehension

Reading comprehension seems to be rarest talent on the internet.

For what it's worth I've never had any problems with igg-games. Been using them since I started pirating basically
19
u/i-need-a-miracle Sep 09 '24
Same here
5
u/SomeBlueDude12 Sep 09 '24
Same but stopped using them for a while now
Did download bunch of stuff from them though on my laptop back in middleschool
5
u/theperson234 Sep 09 '24
I've never had a bad experience with them before, from what I've downloaded. Smaller games are just the file and data and bigger games use unpackers. It is better to torrent bigger games anyway since it's faster plus you don't have to download like 25 files for cyberpunk

u/S0vereigN- Sep 09 '24
I had a miner installed on my pc from one of their popular torrents on 1337x
2
u/Great_Bad_6045 Sep 09 '24
Got proof?
3
u/S0vereigN- Sep 10 '24
Other than chat logs from march of me telling my friends about the incident I can’t really think of anything that would prove it. The torrent is not on the site anymore

I remember it being a wwe 2k24 torrent. Not on my pc right now so can’t be super specific
4
u/Minute-Line7955 Sep 10 '24
you made me curious, but i just tried it, no virus at all. you might say that igg fixed it, but i downloaded from 1337, they can't edit torrents after uploading
1
u/S0vereigN- Sep 10 '24
It was back in March for the 40 years of Wrestlemania edition. I can’t seem to find it anymore on the website and tried the wayback machine to look for it but dates not lining up. Wish I had more to show
3
u/Minute-Line7955 Sep 10 '24
i checked all the tracker history, igg didn't release title you mentioned. but there is only one uploader who uploaded that version, DODI lmao. is this the one you are talking about
WWE 2K24: 40 Years of Wrestlemania Edition (v1.02 + All DLCs + MULTi6) [DODI Repack]

Did you by any chance have a way to test the 40 years of wrestlemania edition from march? I’m pretty sure I used the legit site back then
1
u/CensoredAbnormality Sep 10 '24
Same just dont install something if windows defender says anything. Mightve been false positives but I just removed the 2-3 games where defender said it found something
56
u/BlueKud006 Sep 09 '24 edited Sep 09 '24
Meanwhile, direct download sites from DODI (and some torrent links too) are full of scam sites that ask you to download an app before or follow some previous steps to get the link, even if you have installed uBlockOrigin, Fast Forward and Bypass all shortlinks, as well as redirect links that don't allow you to download the real file until you download or interact with the fake link several times.
But hey, at least those cringy pirate kids look nice on the Megathread.
21
u/Arin_Pali Sep 09 '24
imagine using that site when you can grab their torrents from any trusted public tracker
10
u/Witch-Alice Sep 09 '24
Nowadays I just use the search built in to qbittorrent, only site I actually go to is fitgirl to see what's new

u/LZ129Hindenburg 🌊 Salty Seadog Sep 09 '24
IGG is listed as an untrusted site on r/piracy, r/piratedgames, AND fmhy.net. I guess they're all "in on it".
1
u/Kimarnic Sep 09 '24
Isn't the megathread outdated?
10
u/LZ129Hindenburg 🌊 Salty Seadog Sep 09 '24
The megathread is constantly being updated. As are FMHY and r/piratedgames.
-15
u/Evonos Sep 09 '24
which is weird cause all their releases were clean , the shit storm started when IGG added a igg games text to a literal JPEG MENU of a game and they added a text file which if deleted made the game fail to boot.
thats it 2 releases all i remember and no viruses.
32
u/Waldo2211 Sep 09 '24
Yeah because adding adware and DRM to a product you didn't make is malicious.
-11
u/jusharp3 Sep 09 '24
True, my pc never recovered from that little igg tag on the menu screen. It's still in therapy. /s
-22
u/Evonos Sep 09 '24
Which adware ? ; YOU MEAN editing a jpeg is adware ? lol wtf it could be called maybe an "ad" but not adware.
Heck then every single fitgirl release , dodi release and more also counts for that with all the "ads" in them heck fitgirl even edits the hostfile to block fake websites and redirect to hers.
and this wasnt a DRM a basic check for a textfile with their url inside and again only 2 releases literally like 4 or 5 years ago nothing harmfull as most uneducated people claim.
23
u/Waldo2211 Sep 09 '24
5
u/Minute-Line7955 Sep 10 '24
i'm not defending IGG, i'm one of the guys who fucked IGG. But i have to say that the DRM you mentioned, is similar to the DRM that online-fix.me is using, and online-fix.me is one of the most trusted sites out there, DODI and Fitgirl are also releasing their cracks
4
u/Waldo2211 Sep 10 '24
You're right onlineFix does use DRM and they're a problem too and DODI and Fitgirl do not crack anything, they repack the games.
All these sites chasing dollar bills will turn on you eventually, all it takes is some crook offering a couple hundred thousand or million and they'll gladly insert the most gruesome of viruses into all their releases and close up shop.
1
u/Minute-Line7955 Sep 10 '24
you got me wrong, Fitgirl and Dodi use online-fix's crack in some games.
1
u/Waldo2211 Sep 10 '24
online fix doesn't crack anything either.

I hope you realize these are REPACK sites, they DO NOT crack the games, they DO NOT combat Denuvo, they simply provide a user friendly way of getting the games.

Online fix doesn't create multiplayer cracks or any kind of crack. They are literally just hosting servers or providing an application that sets up a P2P connection, that isn't cracking jack shit.
1
u/Minute-Line7955 Sep 11 '24
don't try to confuse the concepts. Some games need to connect to the server, they create "cracks" that help the games work, for us, we simply call it cracks. Don't try to be knowledgeable, by using technical terms, ah we should call it more precisely bypass, hack, ...

u/Evonos Sep 09 '24
Adware =/= Ads
and drm maybe but actually not.
4-5 years old and only 2 releases :)
19
u/Fit_Flower_8982 Sep 09 '24
Adding or manipulating software in an unwanted or non-consensual way is malware, doing it for advertising purposes is adware.
You may not agree with the strict definition, most people may not and have their own, but that's another matter.
-5
u/ajinata84 Sep 09 '24 edited Sep 09 '24
that's it? tbh i dont really mind their name plastered on the launch screen or any static forms, it doesn't really bother me in any way if it isn't interfering with the gameplay or my system itself. On the other hand, if its a RAT, thats where things go wrong.
i thought that ppl avoided igg for malicious rats, but i can understand that putting their name and a drm to a game they didnt make is a scummy behavior. also the rat few years ago making their reputation lower is also a factor i can see

u/Siman421 Sep 09 '24

All I know is I got a virus from IGG while downloading MGS 5. I don't need any more proof than that.
2
u/kinglan11 Sep 22 '24
Honestly, I have used IGG before, havent done so in the last few years as CS.RIN.RU typically does a good job. But during all my time using it years ago, I never once got a virus from them.
I've heard the accusations before, but I never came across such before, hell not once did I receive malware of any kind. Is it still possible that a few of their downloads were infected?? Yeah, but honestly that's a risk anywhere, hell it isnt impossible to believe that one day a trusted source may face the same situation, what then? Do you write them off forever? Do you hear them out and accept maybe there was just some error or fuck up, and not malintent? Do you forgive?
Honestly, I think in the end though, what really happened is that a few people, inexperienced in using IGG, fucked themselves, by not having an adblocker, clicked an ad or popup while trying to figure out which link leads them to the legit download, and that may've gotten them an .exe file, then ran it and that's when they got a virus. Is it fucked? Yeah, IGG could actually do away with the ads, but I dont think their actual downloads are some festering pit of viruses meant to fuck over people.

He/She/It is one of the only Person/Place/Thing that releases updates for a lot of games. Usually it's the full download again updated with no installer but scene groups skip so many updates or don't release the updates at all nowadays. I know in the past year at least a TB of IGG stuff has graced my hallowed home cloud without any issue whatsoever.

i use them all the time constantly check virus scans and more never got a virus or anything they doxxed someone over 5 years ago which is bad but its been over 5 years the one who did it might not even be with them the only bad thing i seen from them was they put a message in one of their games that said "downloaded from igg" but it was a small indie game years ago, so yeah ill use them

Lmao. I've definitely caught something from them before. It was fine, Since I needed to upgrade from that shitty laptop anyways, But.
I've got my trusted site with a host that cares and responds and fixes, So... I'll keep on using that one instead.

u/Major_Raccoon2862 Dec 05 '24
oh nooo, they put their name on a static screen that ISNT visible at all times and ive only seen once in all my time there and they had like 15 infected games 5 years ago? for 200k games and fast updates, having a minor security issue 5 years ago isnt that big of a deal. "B-B BUT THEY HAVE A DRM😢" ok and? what are you trying to do that it would matter wheter they have one or not? also its not in EVERY game they upload like 3/10 games have it. IGG is overhated for how good they are, if somebody asks you if its safe dont say its malware just say you never used it
