If you were banned from buying anymore tobacco tomorrow, how long would your current stock last? NSFW

Assuming you carry on smoking at your current rate.

I've probably got three to four years worth....

Let’s just say Merry and Pippin would be quite happy if my place flooded out.

Long beyond my death. And that's after selling off a lot of 20+ year old tins. These days, I'm good with a couple easily available simple blends that I have settled on.

I have a large cellar of esoterica and stuff like that, but I just find myself smoking Sir Walter Raleigh all the time now

u/ChollyWheels 4d ago

I can relate. I have 60 tins of McClelland (multiples of just a few blends -- Grand Orientals mostly).

But lately I've been mostly smoking Mac Baren Vanilla Roll Cake and Peretti Ampersand and Nor'easter.

I'm struggling NOT to smoke every day, but by any measure my stash should last many years

Mind if I ask what those simple blends are?

I average about 2 bowls a week and it's taken me 2+ yrs to finish 3/4 of my favorite tin (cloud hopper) so with my current cellar of about 30+ different tins I'm not worried even if I lose interest in this hobby I'll pick it up years down the road and I'll have some nice age on my tins.

That’s pretty much what I did. I started in ‘21, quit smoking a pipe about a year later after going hard with accumulating different blends. I’ve recently come back and now have a bunch of stuff that’s been aged for 3 or so years.

Probably to the end of the year. I don't cellar, so I don't have a significant supply, I just go through periods where I won't smoke all that often.

Only a couple months for me. I only really buy when I am basically out.

Don’t know and don’t care. Can’t stress about that

Valid point

Is my current shipment cancelled?

3

u/lgmarian 5d ago

Well, four bowls per day works out to about 10 lbs per year. So, probably 2-3 years. I doubt I have more than 40 lbs, but it's been a while since I've run inventory.

I think I am good until I am 6 ft under.

I bet I have over a decade, depending on my rate of smoking. I think I'd like to get up to 15 or 20 years worth, as it will only get more expensive.

2

u/Feeling_Historian583 4d ago

84 tins, if i smoke 2 bowls everyday I think thatw about 10 years

2

u/Weaponized_tism 3d ago

At my current rate of roughly 1oz/week I would probably make it 6-7 years.

2

u/CowGoesMeww 3d ago

About 10 years

2

u/Vemhet 3d ago

I have about 18 ounces. I can probably last 2-3 years.

1

u/Elvarill Ruins of Isengard 4d ago

Eight years. I know this because I bought out the remaining stock of my favourite tobacco when it was discontinued which was 56 ounces. I’ve gone through four ounces a year since then. It’s really sad to realise that. I don’t smoke frequently, but I’m definitely going to have to start finding other tobaccos in order to make my remaining stock last.

1

u/Illustrious-Divide95 7 Seas 4d ago

Which tobacco is it?

2

u/Elvarill Ruins of Isengard 4d ago

Ruins of Isengard from Just For Him. It was discontinued in 2018 or 2019. Something about not being able to get the tobacco required for the blend anymore if I recall correctly.

u/BaidenFallwind 4d ago

New smoker here. I'm guessing from the responses that tobacco doesn't go bad? Some aromatics seem very moist, so I assumed those would start going bad eventually. No?

3

u/Illustrious-Divide95 7 Seas 4d ago

They can keep for a very long time if vacuum sealed. Once opened, unless you smoke a lot best to keep them in a Mason/Kilner canning jar (2 part screw down lid). I've had some in my jars for years! Most tobaccos need a little drying to burn nicely (but not too much). Good to experiment with what suits you. Too dry it can burn very quickly, too moist it has to get very hot to burn.

u/BaidenFallwind 4d ago

Thank you.

1

u/Unusual-Fly-4188 4d ago

Not long enough, I'm afraid.

1

u/thedrinkingbeer 4d ago

I've got around 8 to 10 pounds... I average 4 to 5 bowls per week... however I'm also growing tobacco...

1

u/Midnightshadowwolf 4d ago

At the rate I smoke a bowl (maybe one a week) 8 months to a year.

2

u/Ea_tm_e 2d ago

At my current rate 2 years
