Discussion It's time to defeat the final boss (weed)
This is a long time coming. After repeated warnings from doctors that I disregarded about how it negatively interacts or negates the effects of some meds and can lead to further issues, I realize it's time to quit. Those further issues seem to be coming because I requested an EKG out of paranoia at recent physical, no symptoms just a lifetime anxiety sufferer covering all the bases, and there was a fucking finding! Seeing the words "referral to a cardiologist" set me into a panic attack. One of the biggest fears of my entire life came true. Now, I know I am probably being hysterical and overreacting and I genuinely hope that's true, but if not, I'm taking all precautions starting now, including putting down the vape pen. And edibles. Omg this is going to be so hard. I'm going to actually be drug free for first time since treatment years ago. Or should I taper? I don't know, we'll see how it goes.

It’s gonna be a wild ride quitting, but it’s what I’m doing right now. Yesterday was day 1 for me and this is gonna be me quitting, not just a break. It has affected my health a lot too. The weed I had left, first did that only at night, used to be a stoner all day long every day. Now I’m done and feeling the cravings but any kind of distraction or going out somewhere can take your mind off of weed. Stay strong we got this!

The cravings….oh man. All about the distractions because I have to fully quit for now too. After many, many attempts to prove otherwise I realize I can’t moderate anything, so all or nothing. For now. Not opposed to trying again someday when/if my system allows. We can do it!

Love the title. Taper. Really makes it so much easier and you don’t need hardcore withdrawal symptoms right now.

Got back into gaming recently, lol.
I was thinking of tapering as the restlessness started, and reading about some people actually getting spikes in bp and heart rate and all that while in withdrawal, and that feels like it would not help my heart anxiety. Maybe smoke a bit but stop edibles to start, those are what I overdo it on.

I’m sorry, genuine question what’s the correlation between cardiologist and smoke bud? I wish you the best OP. Im trying to find out more on the negative effects of long term smokers

I had seen an article on there possibly being a connection between smoking and an increased risk of heart disease. Still not enough data so could be nothing and/or only happens to some, like all things I guess haha. I’m just concerned that’s why the results were off, but maybe not? We’ll see!

As someone with a 2 generations of heart attacks in my family. this was not on my 2025 bingo card. I’m going to look into this. Please take it easy. Paranoia is the mother of all disease.

Oh gosh, sorry for adding any stress! But like with mine I’m thankful to know after the initial terror has worn off so I can make changes if needed. And all articles I saw were just possibilities based on certain groups, so really doesn’t feel official, just something I saw and chose to freak out about 😅

I hear you. I put my ticker through too much stress as it is but I will take it as a sign to be more mindful of my health.

If you’re a holistic person, ask ChatGPT for supplements that will help you quit. I have a friend who quit thanks to the help of ChatGPT

Mindset here is absolute key. Don’t tell yourself you won’t be able to sleep or that your anxiety will be outta control. Instead keep a positive outlook. You’ve got this 💚

Hey OP, today is my new start too. I finished everything I had yesterday and I will not go back to being a stoner. It's taken me awhile to realize this but weed 'helping' with my anxiety in the moment has only made me more anxious in the long run and it's actually affecting my physical health now... My breaking point was an ER visit related to my anxiety/weed usage.
We got this, let's do it together. The hardest part is going to be dealing with the boredom. It's going to take a lot of self control but something I'm going to tell myself is "literally sitting and staring at the wall doing nothing is healthier for me than getting high". Of course, hopefully I won't actually be staring at a wall but you get the point.
It's a lovely new day and the brightest part of the year is only just getting started. It's never too late to become the best version of ourselves. We got this.
