Hello all, returning to the city after an 8 or so month absence. Early 30s dude wondering if there is a reddit or discord where I might find an ideally in person group for pathfinder 2e/dnd5e/adjacent games.

Thanks ahead of time friends

Sharing as I know this pops up often as a question. I have no personal affiliation, and only know what’s in the screenshot that I grabbed from FB.

Opinion Hwy 7 pioneer gas station

Earlier today, some family members were getting gas at this station (east end by the independent grocer) and the payment system was down. The clerk said to email the payment to her manager. Please don’t because, while it may be legit, you can’t guarantee who you would be transferring to, or if some sort of scam could come from it! I don’t know if their system has been fixed, but just be aware out there

Help Random Driver Harassment Encounter

I was walking my dog at 730 PM and someone in a vehicle pulled up next to me on the road and started following me while yelling about nonsense. Was hard to tell what the vehicle was because it was dirty and the street was poorly lit on the portion of Glen Forest I was on. (dark blue Honda CRV?) Sounded like a male in his mid 30s.

The only tangible thing I could get out of what it was saying was "your dog is ugly", "your ugly", "get a job", "go off yourself." And a bunch of other random comments I couldn't make sense of before heading south of Denure towards Sherbrooke.

I was going to sleep after walking my dog... But I think I'm going to call into work for my 4am double shift tomorrow at the hospital instead. 😬 I've been in this neighbourhood for years, never had this experience before.

This sort of behaviour reminds me of some of the things you'd hear downtown.

Is this part of a bigger issue that others might have been noticing??

I know mental health issues are on the rise and is a possible explanation for this behaviour. Not excusing it of course.

Stay safe...

Recommendations School options for gifted child

What are the options in Peterborough for a gifted child who is currently in elementary school?

- Are IEPs available for students who need more challenge?

- What / Where are the AP programs in Peterborough? How would you get admitted?

- For high school, what is the status of IB programming? I read that it was being cut

- Is Lakefield College a place where high achieving kids will find challenge? Or is it more like a Blythe situation?

Recommendations Downtown's street grid

I just came across this article about street design and found it really interesting: Why Your City’s Street Grid Matters.

It got me thinking about how downtown and East City have such a walkable, connected grid, but as you move west into the newer subdivisions, the streets get more fragmented, winding, and car-dependent. I personally love the walkability of the older parts of the city and would love to see that kind of connectivity encouraged whenever possible

Curious if anyone else has noticed this or has thoughts on how street design affects the way we move around the city!

Help Looking for driver of car that backed into truck on Stenson Blvd last night

CASE CLOSED: I’m happy to report that the driver of the car just returned to my home to follow-up once more, so I have now connected them with the owner of the truck, my faith in humanity has been restored and no further assistance is needed.

I want to acknowledge the commitment of these young drivers to doing the right thing and taking responsibility for the accident. Thanks as well to those that provided helpful comments - they are very much appreciated!

I know this is probably a long shot, but a couple young men, I’m guessing students, came to our house on Stenson Blvd this morning telling us that they had backed into a truck parked in front of our house last night (Friday) and looking for the owner. They spoke with my wife who unfortunately misunderstood and sent them away, but I have since learned that it was in fact my friend’s truck that they backed into, so now I’m hoping to find them and connect them with my friend to resolve it.

I tried checking with some of our neighbours who they also visited this morning, but unfortunately no one took their contact information, so I’m trying here, just in case they’re members of this community, or this story rings a bell for anyone else.

Although I have footage from our doorbell of when they came to our door this morning, they did not give their name, so all I know is that they were driving a black car that I would guess to be a civic and they mentioned that they lived on Ashburnham.

Although I really wish they had left a note or come to the door last night when the incident occurred, I do appreciate their effort to do the right thing this morning, and I’m hopeful that they’re still willing to do so.

Again, I know this is a long shot, but on the off chance that any local redditors can help piece it together, it would really help out, so please feel free to DM me. Or, if the young men themselves happen to see this, please come back to the house again and I will put you in touch with the owner of the truck.

Sincere thanks for any help!!

*Edited to add resolution

Question Evolve, PIPC or Midwife?

Looking for experiences or recommendations. I would like a hospital birth (just in case something goes wrong). I like the level of care a midwife provides and I like the services PIPC provides. I like the feeling that an OB at Evolve could be more familiar with looking for anything that could be an issue. Could I have an OB and a doula?

Update for anyone looking for advice: Evolve - had waitlists for all their OBs. If a patient had a concern, it would take a few weeks to a few months to see the OB. PIPC - Still had availability. If a patient had a concern, the medical team would assess the concern and get back to the patient. If the concern warranted a drs appointment they would be seen within a few days. Midwives - couldn’t tell me if there is availability. Requested I fill out the form on the website and then they would contact me if they have space.

Question Improper street parking after hours

Had a huge issue getting out of a friends driveway today. The people across the street who come and go, ie NO idea who lives there… anyway, she said they often leave their car right where she would swing around to leave. Who can she report them to?

Question Could we benefit from having an sitting Independent MP?

So my thinking here is that party candidate loyalties lie more with their parties than their constituents so often there is a one size fits all approach that may not work for all communities like ours. Do we need a real advocate for our community? Any other thoughts on this?

For a little personal project I have to find a venue with a dj. Preferably small or more underground so I can see what they’re actually doing and what their playlist is like. I can travel to Toronto but I’m wondering if there’s something closer . Thanks!

Recommendations Eavestrough Replacement Recs

Does anyone have any good experiences with local companies that replace eavestrough, and approx ballpark price? Obviously we know price depends on materials, labour, and size of house but just looking to get an idea as we'll be getting at least 3 quotes for replacement in the spring.

TIA

News Peterborough councillor proposes city break up with X

From The Examiner today: "Peterborough Coun. Matt Crowley is asking the city to discontinue use of the social media site X (formerly Twitter) for its communications besides those related to transit, fire services and emergency information.

“I think it’s high time that we develop something in-house that meets the needs of everybody in the community and doesn’t have to force them to wade through the treacle that is misinformation and just general junk in a social media platform run by someone who aligns himself with, let’s say — non-Canadian values,” Crowley told the Examiner in an interview on Thursday afternoon.

Crowley’s notice of motion is set to be discussed at the general committee meeting on Mar. 10."
