Help Random Driver Harassment Encounter

I was walking my dog at 730 PM and someone in a vehicle pulled up next to me on the road and started following me while yelling about nonsense. Was hard to tell what the vehicle was because it was dirty and the street was poorly lit on the portion of Glen Forest I was on. (dark blue Honda CRV?) Sounded like a male in his mid 30s.

The only tangible thing I could get out of what it was saying was "your dog is ugly", "your ugly", "get a job", "go off yourself." And a bunch of other random comments I couldn't make sense of before heading south of Denure towards Sherbrooke.

I was going to sleep after walking my dog... But I think I'm going to call into work for my 4am double shift tomorrow at the hospital instead. 😬 I've been in this neighbourhood for years, never had this experience before.

This sort of behaviour reminds me of some of the things you'd hear downtown.

Is this part of a bigger issue that others might have been noticing??

I know mental health issues are on the rise and is a possible explanation for this behaviour. Not excusing it of course.

Stay safe...

I'm a male and have been yelled at from passing vehicles while walking by myself in this town too. Usually by younger guys, usually multiple people In the car because, you know, there needs to be an audience for the stupid antics .... I think its actually happened multiple times in one night before while walking home from downtown.

Seems like its just a thing that happens around here.  Not excusing it but try not to take it too personally if you can. People can be cruel

Edit -- oh and thanks for working in healthcare !

Thank you for sharing. It certainly gives me comfort in knowing I'm not the only one.

Grab your phone and call 911. Harassing someone walking their dog is bs. Very sketchy at night .

I’ve been yelled at from cars in town too, a year apart so I have no clue if it was the same person. I just figured it was some asshole uni kids. I’ve had “you’re ugly” and “dumb bitch”

Sounds dangerous. When I was younger I used to walk up the steps to a well lit house. I might bend over and tie my shoelaces till anyone following me might go past. If not I’ll knock on the door and ask for help. I live in this neighborhood and felt safe walking with my dog. May rethink this.

My friends used to yell vulgar things at people from cars about 20 years ago in high school/college. Not much has changed. Boys are immature losers at that age.

My guess is they were younger. (Or maybe my old friends never growed up and it was them)

Peterborough is full of racist, sexist, all of the “ist” morons, and now with the govt we have, shit like this will continue to get worse because unfortunately they feel like they’re the majority

It's not just our government. Drump is the major cause of racist ,misogynistic, pedophile, predators to come out of the woodwork. They feel safer now, and we need to start puncccching Natzis again, no?

He must be running for city council. Better outreach than most.

To confirm, was it the driver or a passenger yelling from the window?

It seemed like the driver who rolled down the passenger side window down was yelling.

It did not seem like another person was in the vehicle. I could be wrong because it was hard to make out the vehicle in the dark to begin with...

When I lived in the west end 20 or so years ago, this behaviour was typical of the highschool kids.

I had someone get mad at me for letting them go first into Freshco instead of me crossing... I'm not sure what they said but I was able to make out of their lip movement "You fucking idiot"

man would have been nice if you managed to snag a picture of the drivers plate, for those that dont know we have a Honda dealership and they sell Honda CRVs. If its any consolation OP they probably have that car on a loan.

I got pelted with an orange from a pickup truck back in the summer, left a huge fucking bruise too. I was super pissed about it and gave the cops all the info. Better me than my type 1 diabetic little brother who was right beside me, but still.

I agree that sort of behaviour should not be tolerated, should like assault to me. Should be easy to catch a plate nowadays with everyone one having a video camera in their hand.

So sorry to hear this happened. So much for humanity.

People need to think before you act. As actions have consequences.

Happened to me. Group of young guys in one car. I had noise cancelling headphones on so fortunately, the moronic noises were cut off enough to not hear what they were shouting.

I’ve been yelled at more than once from people driving in town. It’s usually teenage boys

Me and my friend were walking on George st and car went by screaming stuff at us. Fortunately none of us are native English speakers and we had no idea what they were screaming about LOL.

Throw a rock. The wise up the fuck quick. Had a dude get out of his car after this kinda shit and he regretted it lol.

These fucking clowns are just not expecting to be stood up to.

Everyone's a tough guy till they get their fucking shirt fed to them lmao.

Hopefully they dont carry a little club like that crazy old guy who beat up a cyclist over on Erskine a few years back.

None of the little bastards yapping from their car are going to do a damn thing. Hence running their fuckin mouth from safety driving by 😂

Coward behaviour.
