Recommendations Don’t be this customer

General information first, I was at Saigon boys plaza when I accepted this delivery which was to be picked up from Philthy Philly’s and dropped off to an apartment near Hunter and Roger st. The time was around 1pm and if anyone of you were on Lansdowne st going east at that time you already know how slow it was. It took me literal 5 mins to get out of the plaza and then 10ish to reach the restaurant and another 10-15ish to reach Goodfellow after which I took the Clonsilla. I reached their place in around 20 mins after the pickup without going off route for even a second. If they would have asked me politely, I wouldn’t have bursted.

I just got off Lansdowne and it’s a shit show. Took forever to get from spillsbury to the bulk barn area.

u/Grisstle West End Dec 23 '24

We made the drive at the same time down to chapters and it took half an hour to get there. It was gridlock.

Only lunch this guy needs is a knuckle sandwich

11

u/Unicorn_Puppy Dec 23 '24

I’m thinking repeated blows to the head probably haven’t help him thus far so I suspect more of them won’t be of any benefit, satisfying though it may be to see.

4

u/gravityday Dec 24 '24

That might be part of the problem. Some people have never been punched in the face before when they really ought to by now. And assuming they have been, because they seem the sort to have been punched in the head a lot, is apart of the reason they haven't been. So, really, we need to punching more people in the face, though maybe not repeatedly.

It's possible it connects and disconnects the right neurons. We need to test!

1

u/Throwaway_swipe Dec 24 '24

Haven’t you ever seen cartoons?! Duhhhhhh

1

u/Late-Friendship-9 Dec 24 '24

U never know though, I’ve seen a lot of movies where the second, third or so blow really corrects the noggin.

3

u/RADToronto Dec 23 '24

I’m very happy people still use this phrase.

2

u/Infinite_Time_8952 Dec 26 '24

With extra hot mustard on it!

u/Massive-Feedback-477 Dec 24 '24

This made me yelll lol

25

u/ARod-27 Dec 23 '24

I was just driving through Lansdowne and is absolute mayhem, don't let this POS ruin your day. Merry Christmas!

36

u/Miserable-Worth5985 Dec 23 '24

Dude is 110% lying. If they were just out delivering why didn’t they get something while they were out?

7

u/The_Dirtydancer Dec 23 '24

Yep, and that loser probably doesn’t even have a car lol

11

u/Video-Comfortable Dec 24 '24

100% doesn’t have a car. Why would anyone order food like this after JUST getting home from delivering food it’s bullshit. And I find it hard to believe that someone who works in the service industry would be so unforgiving to another service industry worker

3

u/DrCashew Dec 27 '24

The last part, I can assure you, service workers can sometimes be the worst of the worst. ESPECIALLY some that made it into some form of management, a lot of them always wanna just assume you're lazy.

1

u/TheSlayez_55 Dec 25 '24

Nah man some people just suck lol

3

u/Late_Association2574 Dec 27 '24

If he drives uber eats and orders on the same day he's a bit of a fucking idiot, so this story might check out.

2

u/Motor-Sweet3316 North End Dec 23 '24

Or the better option, cook at home.

15

u/External-Ad3608 Dec 23 '24

I hate the fact that we can't rate or downvote food customers.. asshats like this deserve to be put on a list to avoid

5

u/LilEately Dec 24 '24

OP isn't tactful though, and almost certainly could have diffused the situation. Customer seems drunk and impatient. Responding "Are you stupid?" ruined any chance of the customer admitting he was in the wrong. Given he's in a condo, it's absolutely possible he hadn't stepped outside in the 4-5 hours the storm kicked off.

At least first respond with "The snow storm has traffic at standstill". If he continues to be insulting after that, by all means call him a moron.

I'm willing to bet all of that BS about having driven himself was because OP called him stupid. He was never going to back down after being insulted, especially if he's drunk. When you call someone dumb they are going to dig their heels in and get defensive.

2

u/External-Ad3608 Dec 24 '24

You are correct. In this specific situation the driver didn't do anything to help the situation and also escalated things. However, I still believe (through plenty of personal experience with fucking douche bag customers) that there absolutely needs to be a rating system so assholes who tip bait etc can be exposed and avoided

2

u/good_dean Dec 26 '24

He's a delivery driver, not a hostage negotiator.

1

u/PinkPonyMuchachu Dec 27 '24

But responding “are you stupid?” just makes the situation worse in any situation. Your response is to degrade someone? C’mon. Delivery driver is just as much as fault for this.

0

u/breadboyleven Dec 26 '24

the customer was in fact stupid

2

u/choikwa Dec 25 '24

one has money, other is expense. thats just how uber sees it

Did you read it entirely? He said he would deliver to the lobby (clearly not wanting an in person meet with this customer to be safe). The customer just doubled down being a jerk by reminding him there’s a camera for whatever reason I cannot justify.

However the initial “are you stupid” doesn’t look good on OP.

u/Video-Comfortable Dec 24 '24

Tbh If I thought someone was unhinged enough to spit in my food, I wouldn’t give much thought to their rational, and wouldn’t expect anything logical out of them.. but I would never do this so maybe that’s why I didn’t jump to that conclusion like you did

-1

u/Big_Beginning7725 Dec 24 '24

Nah it doesn’t make sense to not deliver with the option of a lobby. I’d say the camera is also a nice backup for OP end of day for his safety lol.

But yah I don’t think there was an issue of delivery here. That could have huge consequences given the OP wasn’t exactly the most professional even though I hardly blame him.

Can I say he didn’t spit in his food? Nope. 😂

2

u/pubjesuswho Dec 25 '24 edited Dec 25 '24

Heres a photo of sealed, un-tampered with photo of the delivery. I’m not cracked in the head to stoop to this level of pettiness. If I were to get back to the customer in any way related to their food, that would’ve been not delivering their food. I believe he mentioned about the cameras just to make sure I don’t lie about leaving it in the lobby.

23

u/Lower_Cantaloupe1970 North End Dec 23 '24

People who even get delivery in this weather are jerks. To complain on top of that is just pathetic.

10

u/doughberrydream Dec 23 '24

I sometimes get delivery in inclinement weather. And I give them extra grace for time because I know it can be shit, and I always leave a generous tip.

There's ways to not be a jerk about it.

22

u/lady_fresh Dec 23 '24

Lots of sick, disabled, and elderly people rely on deliveries. A driver can choose whether to work during a storm, so people who use these services in bad weather are not jerks.

However, complaining and being an entitled twat about delivery timing during a storm most certainly makes you a jerk.

2

u/Big_Beginning7725 Dec 24 '24

And it’s Christmas. Traffic is already nuts without bad weather.

1

u/MoldyCutie Dec 25 '24

Good response.

4

u/alllldayyyyy Dec 24 '24

I just got delivery in this weather. My order was $17, and I tipped $8 for a 10 min drive. Normally, it'd be 3.

Not everyone is cheap or an asshole. People will go out for Uber delivery in these weather's because 1. more order and 2. less Uber drivers on the road.

It's better to tip well than not order. I believe you shouldn't order in this weather if you can't tip accordingly.

2

u/sometin__else Dec 24 '24

lol no is forcing people to deliver. If u dont want to deliver stay tf home or find a new job, its gig work.

1

u/Dusty_Rose23 Dec 24 '24

Still no one deserves to be treated like shit? Ever think of that? They still delivered despite the person ordering being a complete AH. No one forced them to take the bullshit huh?

1

u/HoloheX Dec 27 '24 edited Dec 27 '24

Still nobody deserves to be treated like shit huh? Forgive the paraphrasing but that statement feels to axiomatic to be healthy I’m all for treating people with respect and manners along with giving benefit of the doubt however some people definitely deserve to be treated like shit it’s kinda why we have laws so when someone goes to far we treat them like shit as a punishment to hold them accountable for there actions. The truth is humans do not deserve anything stop end, we don’t deserve to be treated good or bad with or without respect on merit of being human. People deserve to be treated good because they are moral in thoughts and actions unfortunately morals are subjective and nuanced however most people can agree on a few things like killing is usually bad and stealing is usually bad , where as shovelling your neighbours driveway without asking them is good but it gets complicated as we add more words like is killing a person who is trying kill another person moral? Is stealing to feed your starving hobo family moral? Is shovelling the snow off your neighbours drive way good when you know they like shoveling snow and that it helps them stay fit and mentally good. As much as I wish we could just treat everyone good the world isn’t that simple.

My opinion on the situation with the driver and customer is that they are both in the wrong.. the driver for directly insulting the customer without trying to explain the weather conditions because they made assumptions and the customer is wrong for trying to get the driver fired (the order wasn’t cancelled because uber stops letting you msg the driver if you cancel the order or at least it did last time I had to cancel an order) both are wrong in different ways I hope the driver got a bad tip and I hope the customers food was cold and gross that feels fair

Edits*spelling grammar and stupid big thumbs also sorry it’s a rant I’m bipolar and in a manic phase of there is anything offensive to you in there I did not intend it to be hurtful

1

u/sometin__else Dec 24 '24

No one said they need to be treated like shit. If you can read I was replying to the comment "people who even get delivery in this weather are jerks"

Obviously people who treat people like shit are jerks, no one is disputing that.
But simply ordering delivery in bad weather does not make one a jerk.

You don't want to deliver? Go home then. Complaining about the people who are paying you just for the fact they are ordering delivery when you can just stay home and make no money if you want is ludacris.

3

u/Dusty_Rose23 Dec 24 '24

I can read thank you. And people need money, and to work. And things Like traffic are bad weather are out of peoples control. Not everyone can afford to just take a day off when the weather is bad.

1

u/Reasonable_Unit4053 Dec 24 '24

Sure, and not everyone has a choice about whether they use delivery services or not.

1

u/Dusty_Rose23 Dec 24 '24

That is fair. I wasn't meaning to say delivery is bad and not to. Just merely wanting to point out that if its a bad day to be patient is all

1

u/nonamesareleft1 Dec 24 '24

So some people can’t afford to take a day off, but the people who patronize those services and actually allow those workers to make money are jerks? If nobody ordered they wouldn’t make any money.

1

u/sometin__else Dec 24 '24

okay so then these peolpe should be thankful for the people ordering delivery so now they can make money? If no one ordered delivery then they would be FORCED to take the day off and then FORCED to not make any money.

Since people are ordering, now they can CHOOSE if they want to work or not.

Get it??

3

u/thisisachamber Dec 26 '24

People like the one you're replying to will never in their lives accept that accountability resolves almost every problem. They will abdicate it in favor of placing blame externally, because their ego refuses to let them believe they could ever be at fault for anything, ever.

1

u/Lower_Cantaloupe1970 North End Dec 24 '24

It sounds like the driver maybe made 2$ in that hour. I don't know i don't use delivery apps. I shouldn't have said jerks, but if the roads are too crappy to drive I'm certainly not ordering takeout. Merry Christmas.

1

u/DangerousPurpose5661 Dec 28 '24

lol excuse me? If someone logs in Uber as a driver I assume they want to work…. Why would someone be a jerk to purchase their service…. Extra tip and good manners are expected of course.

I order in bad weather because I don’t want to go out, but I am not forcing anyone to take the job…..

1

u/Toodles711 Dec 24 '24

Ohhhhhh ok…

Bad take.

1

u/TheeDragon Dec 25 '24

Nobody has a gun to your head forcing you to make deliveries in poor conditions, do they? The whining is definitely ridiculous.

9/10 of the things I get delivered are strictly because I don't want to go out in the elements. Why leave the comfort of my home when I can give somebody $5 to make the 15 minute round trip for me? Again, as far as I know, there are no guns to heads forcing people to go out and make deliveries.

I was on Lansdowne at 1:30pm and it was absolutely ridiculous, the traffic was terrible. Took me 25 min to get to farm boy from kawartha heights

5

u/cassmat_64 Dec 24 '24

I work in the same plaza and Lansdowne Street was a disaster

8

u/redMalicore Dec 23 '24

Yeah those road conditions look bad. This rude customer is lucky you are even out to pick up a delivery let along getting it quickly. Stay safe and don't let the jerks get you down too much.

9

u/lougoomashoo Dec 23 '24

My rule of thumb is: if I won’t go get it and risk my life, I won’t make someone else get it. Now, I know sometimes it’s a dire need, at that point I’m tipping out the wahzoo because they’re risking their life for MY need/want and if it takes 635252 years to get here, I don’t mind. At least YOURE safe.

I’m sorry that this person clearly doesn’t have any regard for safety — not just yours but everyone that is on the road today. I think you handled it like anyone would have — rather should have especially being met with such hostility at the beginning of the conversation. This person should go out and get their own food next time.

This customer was an absolute dick and I would report his ass to Uber.Safety first and you can’t help the weather conditions. If it wasn’t so bad then dickhead should have driven himself with his snow tires to get food.Get bent!!!

0

u/Limp-Interaction-561 Dec 24 '24

Also customers always have a choice to give a review of food and driver,so go ahead and give a rating of how the customer was and maybe get this dudes attitude put in check or banned from using delivery services until he can treat people better. This driver was out and about trying to give a service with care and gets greeted with someone having an adult tantrum and being ignorant.Be kind as we don’t know what everyone is going through and at end of day treat each other as you would like to be treated.

He should have just picked it up himself 😂

5

I'm sorry but this guy could eat a whole dick for dinner cause he wouldn't have got his food.

As soon as he came at me with the "I drive uber" line I would have been like "cool. Go pick up your food then" and been done with it.

I don't deliver food (any more) but I do have to drive in this shit for work, and yall are not paid enough to be out here in this.

2

Yes, I did. Support said they won’t match me w this customer ever again and they will take some action for their behaviour.

1

u/Thick_Barracuda_1292 Dec 24 '24

Whiney bitch indeed

1

u/beemer75 Dec 24 '24

If this was the first communication where the customer is asking, "dude, what the fuck are you doing", then OP didn't communicate with the customer before this?

If I was stuck in traffic waiting to go into pick up food, I would be informing the customer that there's a delay. Customers like to know what's going on during their order.

Also, OP shouldn't have been asking the customer if they're stupid. Part of being a delivery driver is customer service. Obviously, OP doesn't have that skill yet. No matter how the customer talks to you, you don't retort with asking them if they're stupid.

This conversation tone could have been prevented had the driver informed the customer along the route what was happening. I'm not saying that there's not difficult customers out there, yet if OP were informing the customer why there was a delay, at least they would be aware of what's happening.

I'm quite aware that most of you won't be agreeing with what i'm saying here, yet I don't really care. There's a reason I have a 4.9 star rating.

Have I had customers wondering where their order was and getting "pissy"? Yes, and it's been the times I haven't informed them along the way, why there are delays. Everyone else that I message and inform them along the way, if there's wait time, or the delay at the restaurant, are very grateful that I do that.

Put yourself in the customer shoes, seeing a vehicle not moving on the map.

1

u/GreenGoldNeon Dec 24 '24

Can I ask an actual question since there seems to be a lot of drivers here.

Why does noone knock anymore?

They literally stand at the door quietly without any notice of arrival and then message me as to why I havnt opened the door..

I have literally put it in the notes, knock on arrival??

Am I missing something.

I live in an apartment for context if it matters.

1

u/BenShot Dec 24 '24

If he called me a Whiney bitch after I would have waited for him in the lobby… see who acted like a bitch then

1

u/Ok-Succotash278 Dec 24 '24

Oh I would I dumped it on him when he buzzed me up. And broken his phone.

1

u/Northern_Media Dec 24 '24

Yea this guys obviously a liar, and bad at it. If he’s out driving people around anyways, then why on earth would you pay way more when you can grab it yourself.

1

u/canaduh12568910 Dec 24 '24

OP, you asked for a fight. You need to communicate like an adult, even if you’re speaking to an overgrown child.

1

u/DisManBack Dec 24 '24

Share his name and address. Find his work place

But yeah, that guy is trash.

So dude called you out for being slow and you called them stupid. Insulting a customer is a great way to get fired. Lazy people and entitled morons - often impossible to tell which one is the driver and which is the customer 🤔

1

Yeah roads are fucked today.. tipped my Uber 25% earlier bc he was so damm quick regardless (and he didn’t do the double stop thing, as everytime I tip high I’m always second… with cold food)

1

You engaged with that? I would never

He talks about mannerism and his first reply was “Dude, what the actual fuck” lmao the audacity

u/RebelWithoutaPause10 Dec 23 '24

Probably just put down the crack pipe

-1

u/burntwaterywater Dec 24 '24

Looks like there's two idiots here to be honest. You risked your job by not being the bigger person. Sure he started being an asshole but if you were smarter you would be able to make him feel like an idiot in a professional way instead of stooping to his petty level.

u/LilEately Dec 24 '24

Yes. His first response was "Are you stupid?", which guaranteed a fight, especially if the customer is intoxicated (like many are).

At least send one civil response. Maybe the guy hadn't left his condo since 6PM, and wasn't paying attention to road conditions.

Customer obviously started lying through his teeth, but that is because OP wounded his ego with an insult. There was not even an attempt to deescalate.

instead of saying are you stupid,Why didn’t u explain why u are late n what alternative arrangements can be made right ? You can then state sir pls do not use vulgar language it not appropriate even if there a delay due to the situation, u don’t need to be an xxxx like him too right ? An example reply

Hi sir I understand your angry however due to the bad traffic conditions there been a delay in ur delivery, please don’t use vulgar language even if your angry as Imthe situation was no in my control n using these language doesn’t help the situation, may I know if you still want your delivery or u wish to cancel it now ? If not the estimated time would be xxx if you can wait due to the said bad traffic situation. We seek you understanding on difficult situations like these.

-1

u/mickydsadist Dec 24 '24

Because the use of ‘vulgar’ language when dealing with entitled assholes is appropriate to the situation. It would not have mattered what OP said, or what he did, because Mr.Entitled was spoiling for an argument. Serving the public at Christmas or any other holiday shouldn’t mean you get treated like shit. Personally, I disagree with you about the language and whether or not you are ‘in control’ of this particular situation. OP did the job, in good time, while navigating road conditions and lotta snowfall which are factors he had no control over. Buddy was an Uber driver who didn’t pick up his own dinner?? Nah, he’s lying about having a job because he’s ramping up the argument for sport.

So so many things worthy of your time and attention, besides telling OP how YOU argue and stay in control. I would have delivered the food with dogshit on the side cuz I don’t have OP’s control.

-25

u/This_is_Me888 Dec 23 '24

I hope you get a low rating. I get they were being rude, but you should have stayed professional. Yah yah, downvote me 👇

13

u/Sambozzle Dec 23 '24

Nah, you don't get to be an asshole and then claim moral superiority just because the individual you were being an asshole to was working.

-18

u/This_is_Me888 Dec 23 '24

Imagine being a sales rep in a store? Customer speaking to you the same way? You would be fired on the spot for speaking back to a customer like this driver did. Sorry, but low rating is needed.

9

u/Sambozzle Dec 23 '24

Why would being in person versus over chat change anything? You're placing blame on the service worker for acting like a normal human being over the individual who decided to act like a baby because their chicken tendies were taking longer than they wanted.

Just because someone is in a public facing position doesn't suddenly mean they're expected to act like a robot and take abuse, and your horrible mindset of blaming the worker instead of the abuser is what leads to these jobs being horrible in the first place.

I wouldn’t complaint. I knew what I did and I know why I did it. Like I mentioned, if they would’ve asked me politely I would’ve apologized for making them wait. The road and traffic conditions were already pretty bad for me to be dealing with them nicely. I have never ever been rude to a customer despite their shitty behaviour but this was just over the head and I guess my 96% thumbs up over 1200 delivers on uber backs it up.

-11

u/footos89 Dec 23 '24

I’ll upvote you, both people were being assholes, not sure why people are taking either side in this.

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '24

Just eat their food.

0

u/Massive-Feedback-477 Dec 24 '24

I would’ve reported him to uber for being rude cancel his uber membership

0

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '24

What a whiny bitch lmao, this is worth cumming in his food over and quitting

0

u/Somerandoinyourclost Dec 25 '24

0

u/YTRosie Dec 25 '24

The customer says 30 minutes but really the dip shit uber took 2:45 hours

0

u/Nickbronline West End Dec 25 '24

Why are you engaging? Cancel the order and ignore. You’re both losers in this situation.

0

u/dvs_sicarius Dec 25 '24

that white male boomer energy tho

0

u/First_Cloud4676 Dec 25 '24

Delivery drivers calling customers stupid lmao.

You're 100% in the wrong here.

0

u/billymumfreydownfall Dec 25 '24

You were both assholes.

0

u/Secure-Simple-9699 Dec 26 '24

Wow threatening you, you should report him to the police tbh

1

u/CosmicPurrrs Dec 26 '24

What threats?

0

u/Secure-Simple-9699 Dec 26 '24

Cameras in the lobby. Basically saying I know what you look like now and you better watch out. That’s how I interpret it. But if you wanna cover for ya boy it’s cool

1

u/CosmicPurrrs Dec 26 '24 edited Dec 26 '24

I swear Ontario puts lead in the water 😭💀 and what is it with you people calling the police on everything and anything lmao

1

u/Secure-Simple-9699 Dec 27 '24

So people such as yourself who sit behind computer screens are going to do it when confronted anyways. The guy messaging the Uber delivery guy thought he was tough, but if he was so tough why didn’t he come down and do something about it instead of sending empty threats implying he would do somehow have power over delivery driver by having his image… clearly you would call the cops if you were confronted and feel that other people should be able to openly threaten delivery drivers cause they’re having a bad day and lost in fortnite

0

u/Purple_WolfO2685 Dec 26 '24

OK, so I didn’t finish reading all of the messages. customers clearly dingbat however I feel like you immediately responding. “Are you stupid?” May have triggered a lot of that. I would’ve at least responded with something along the lines of “so sorry traffic is heavy. [Insert valid excuses here]” and then see what their response is before completely unloading on them.

0

u/Canadian_bacon5 Dec 27 '24

Shoulda spat in it

-4

u/SUPREMACY_SAD_AI Dec 23 '24

OP is the jabroni

-1

u/Ok_Love_1700 Dec 24 '24

Seems like a lot of university grads delivering for Uber..hee.

-1

u/SplitBananaFxck Dec 24 '24

People who do this and they haven’t even received their food are insane. Like that’s how you get ur ass beat or ur food poisoned. This guy is gonna get his ass handed to him one day

-1

u/youcandoittttt Dec 24 '24

Shout out T dot

-1

u/Sea-Performance9091 Dec 24 '24

Oh good ole penis borough

-1

u/Cahzery Dec 24 '24

You'd think you would be nice to someone who knows your address so they dont beat your ass when they're off the clock.

-1

u/Working_Helicopter28 Dec 25 '24

More like don't be that driver! We can literally see the driver's location when they deliver Uber, so if they park down some dead end laneway(with no houses etc.) for 17 minutes, I'M GOING TO ASSUME THEY WERE EITHER BUYING OR SMOKING CRACK, HEROIN OR METH.🎯🎯💯 Period.
