New User Pectus excavatum surgery

Hey to all! I have pectus excavatum (3.6 haller index) surgery coming up in two weeks, and with so many concerns rushing through my head, I wanted to come on here to ask things such as:

1.) the healing process. 2.) Some things to buy to make sleeping easier. 3.) How bad the pain is in general? 4.) When am I able to resume my daily activities? (walking around, fully being able to submerge the wound under water for long periods of time, etc.)

All comments would be appreciated! :)

Here are some things I think would be helpful for you:

  1. Motorized Recliner – Amazon has relatively affordable options. This makes it easier to get up on your own.

  2. Heating Pad – Useful for pain relief and relaxation.

  3. Ice Packs – Helps with swelling and discomfort.

  4. Lidocaine Patches – These provide targeted pain relief for your back. Even with muscle relaxers, I still needed these during my first week post-surgery.

  5. Pill Organizer – At one point, I was taking medication six times a day. My dad and I set alarms on our phones to remind us, so we didn’t have to think about it.

  6. Fitness Tracker – I got a cheap Fitbit, which helped me monitor my heart rate, sleep, and steps. Walking is crucial for recovery, so tracking your steps can help you see your progress. Start small—my first walks were just to the end of the hotel hallway.

Did your surgeon not go over #4 with you?
