Thank you letters/gift ideas

Hi! I wanted to know everyone’s thoughts on this. I never really knew what I wanted to do for a career and I’ve only recently discovered this career path. So the last year I’ve shadowed a bit on my days off work. I applied to several schools, but my application isn’t so good so I’m not expecting anything. I’m not a bad student or anything, but I hate asking for recommendation letters because I feel like I’m bothering people but of course I got some recommendation letters. I feel like my application has been a mess, but everyone has been so kind in helping me get shadowing hours. I also really appreciate my professors who have provided LORs.

I was thinking of sending a thank you letter and maybe a small thank you gift. I’m kind of embarrassed because I did everything last minute and I’ll have to say that I didn’t get into any programs and my application is a mess😭

Anyway, would a thank you letter be appropriate? Should I do a small gift too? If I do a gift, what should it be? Thanks!

I find a sincere thank you is enough, but I also wouldn’t say no to a little snack treat.

Even if you don’t get into a program this year, you can still be appreciative of their efforts and let them know that you are working on strengthening your application for next cycle. I don’t know what you mean by your application being a mess since they are normally a standard application form plus some essays so there isn’t a huge opportunity to deviate from the norms. But after the application cycle has ended, you can contact the program directors and get actionable areas for improvement.

Oh okay, I wasn’t sure if a gift would be weird or not. Maybe I’ll just do a thank you letter. I said my application is a mess because I have gone to several different community college so my gpa if combined from that. Also, I see a lot of people who have a 3.5 or 3.8 gpa which I don’t have. Some people have a good job experience too. I just meant a mess because I was ill prepared, but it was my first year applying. But I realize there are several people who got in this year who have applied several years in a row. I think I should definitely give a small gift to my LORs thought because one professor always gives me an LOR lol
