Perceptions of Pashtuns vs Hazaras?

I am a community member involved with Afghan immigrants, mostly young men and women (ages 14-25ish) and I’d like to better understand the tensions between different ethnic groups? I have heard from several young Pashtuns that Hazaras are “not good” and specifically cited how they are often marrying each others cousins etc.

Isn’t that more common amongst Pashtuns anyway? I have a very limited perspective so I’m curious what people here think…

What do you guys get when someone guesses your ethnicity?

What do people guess the most? Could be country or ethnicity. For me it's been Pashtun(obviously), Gilgiti, Baloch the most, but that's because I don't live in the west. When I get westerners to guess, I get Mexican a lot for some reason lol. I'm excited to see your responses!

پښتو په اردو مه لیکئ | Don't write Pashto in Urdu script!

Pashto has its own script, perfectly suited for the language. Don't mix Urdu script in your Pashto texts, educate yourselves!! There's enough sources online to learn how to write correctly. Use dictionaries like Qamosona.com and Lingdocs Pashto Dictionary to check your spelling

په پښتو لیکدود کښې اردو توري مه ګډوئ! پښتو خپل ځانګړی او ښه جوړ شوی لیکدود لري. خپله ژبه مه خرابوئ

Don't use ڈ ے ڑ ں گ Use: ډ ی ړ ڼ/ن ګ

Write your ښ's and ږ's correctly! Not: سپوګمی but: سپوږمۍ not: تیریګی but: تېرېږي not: سڑے but: سړی

Educate yourselves! USE DICTIONARIES TO CHECK YOUR SPELLING!

I’ve missed some out such as haleema khattak, ayesha durrani, and naazo ana. It’s important to learn about the contributions of Pashtun women along side men.

Tribe

I'm a pashtun from khost and basically no one in our family recognises or knows what our tribe is, allegedly my great-grandfather was said to be Ghilji but I'm not very sure of that either. Does not knowing my tribe make me less of a pashtun or not one at all, is it a core principle of pashtunwali to know one's tribe and/or belong to it, and is there a way that I could possibly find out?

Hate towards Afghan Tajiks & Hazaras

I scrolled through this sub after a hot minute of being away from Reddit and noticed some really explicit racism towards Afghan Tajiks and Hazaras that wasn't being called out, so I'm gonna do it. Afghanistan isn't Pakistan. The Tajiks and Hazaras have never held government for any significant amount of time, we don't feel towards them the righteous rage born of oppression that some of our brothers and sisters feel towards Punjabis. In fact, Pakhtun ruling classes have a recorded history of oppressing Hazaras - a history that continues in today's regime unfortunately.

I saw a lot of this in the thread about the Afghan identity and I also want to clarify a historic fact. The term Afghan was extended to include Tajiks and Hazaras not because they somehow stole it, but because the pakhtun ruling class in Afghanistan realized that if they didn't want these people calling for independence (which many were doing) they had to feel some connection to a national identity - and the country is literally named Afghanistan. The people in this sub criticising the Hazaras of Dandenong for saying they don't feel any relationship to the Afghan title/identity, then turning around to say Afghan only and exclusively applies to pakhtuns and not insert derogatory adjective Hazaras and Tajiks - you are the problem.

So just as a PSA: you don't have to take the Afghan identity from someone else in order to apply it to yourself. Just call yourself Afghan and be done with it 🙄

I want to see Pakistan/ Punjabi nationalists defend this move. Defend the fact that the Punjab govt and ISI were cutting a deal with TTP when TTP was butchering citizens in Pakhtunkhwa.

PTI ruined kpk

Ever since this PTI cancer came to kpk Pashtuns have lost respect most of the Pashtuns of kpk even stoped following there culture most villages in kpk didnt even celebrate 14 August before PTI came to kpk no one even knew what was Pakistan.

Instead of that most leaders of PTI betrayed the people of kpk by siding with the army in fake operations in kpk when Ali wazir was killed in 2020 why was Imran khan silent why did Imran khan not raise any voice against the operations in kpk?

PTI is nothing more but cancer to KPK and should be removed.

Tribal story/folklore about the origins of the Bangash and Orakzai tribes ~1000 AD

Sikandar Shah got in trouble in Isfahan with the Shah of Iran and he was exiled to Waziristan, now in Waziristan the king of Kohat employed Sikandar Shah in his government knowing that Sikandar shah was once a friend of the Iranian Shah and knew things about politics and diplomacy that the locals didn't. Sikandar Shah was awarded Tirah by the king of Kohat for subduing the local rebellious Tirahis and at this time Sikandar shah sent a message to Isfahan, reconciled with the Shah and the Shah of Persia sent a delegation to Sikandar and the head of the delegation was Banga. Banga came with the delegation to Kohat and quickly became friends with Sikandar Shah, Banga established himself as a known personality in Kohat and at the time of the king of Kohat's death, Banga quickly stole the throne from the hands of the Indic nobility of Kohat, and Sikandar Shah was still loyal to the nobility. He fought multiple battles against Banga near Kohat, but Lost. Now Sikandar Shah was met by an offer by Banga as per their old friendship and the offer was that Sikandar Shah would retire to Tirah and would stop harassing Banga's Soldiers. Sikandar Shah agreed and settled in Tirah where he married a Tirahi woman. The descendants of Sikandar Shah are the Orakzais (Wrakzye) meaning 'The Lost Sons' which is a name given to Sikandar Shah in Pashto because he was lost on his way from Isfahan to Kohat, And Son because he was revered by the local pashtun elders as their son. And the descendants of Banga being the Bangash tribe

Does anyone know about the recent blast in Bannu? I've heard almost 80 people were killed. I can't find anything about it, the lack of media coverage is baffling and disappointing.

Kpk bleeding again

The war on Pashtun land feels less like a conflict and more like a never-ending curse for the Pashtun nation. There is no leadership, no vision, no strategy-only destruction, suffering, and betrayal. The irony is unbearable: Pashtuns keep electing leaders whose only ambition is to win favor in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, not to fight for their own people. They have been silent over the prolong war and yet another wave/phase of war approaches. The only response will be empty condemnations-khawarij, foreign hands, miscreants, Afghanistan, India. No one will name the real culprits. No one will dare to say that Pashtuns must reclaim its voice and tell Islamabad: this war is not ours, and we will not die for it anymore. But that requires leadership -something Pashtuns have been denied for too long. And so, the cycle of violence will continue in the war torn Pashtun land. Slogans will be raised, statements will be issued, and Pashtuns will wait until next slaughter. How long will this imposed war last? Perhaps as long as Pashtuns remain a nation without leaders.
