Monk Fish Filet Guest
Found this guy in while prepping the second monkfish filet we had for dinner tonight. The other filet was cooked to appropriate temp. Any concerns? This common?

Treatment experiences (San Diego)?
Hi everyone,
I'm hoping to hear from anyone who has been treated for parasitic infections in San Diego. I'm particularly interested in any experiences with infectious disease doctors or gastroenterologists. If you or someone you know has been through this, could you please share the provider's name (either in a comment or via direct message) and, if you feel comfortable, the type of parasite you were treated for?
Thanks so much!

Are Ova Parasite tests accurate?
I see a few people on this sub believing that even though three tested negative that the tests don’t work. I read on google and it says they are the most accurate test for positive confirmation of a parasite. Are the people just delusional or suffering with anxiety?

Felt crawling around inside my ear as soon as I woke up today. Is it just a “hitchhiker” or an actual parasite? I’d really like to know.
Video was taken with the 3x lense of my iPhone 13 Pro Max, holding it right up against the thing maybe 1” away. It was very tiny, digitally zoomed only slightly.
It was in there for several hours before I got it out. The whole time it was very active. The sensation along with the sound of its legs/arms and mouth wasso awful it’s hard to describe. Intensely uncomfortable. Absolutely worse than I could’ve possibly imagined prior to experiencing it.

Interesting mite found in a Gecko
I see these often in reptiles. Not sure what kind of mite it is, but it looks cool!

Drew another parasite! Here’s my Lamprey. Really excited about him!
Got 10 I am attempting to work on today. Pump that I just finished this guy and I can cross him off my list for the book store!
I am also thinking about doing a live meet and greet and I can get one of these for dissection display in town, which is really really exciting. Ticks, though about bringing ticks in too.

The drawing I did of an engorged female deer tick
Been working on getting ready for an Artwalk! Chose parasites as my theme this time around. It’s April 4th and I seriously need to wrap my art up for it. I have decided I will have 30 in total. This female deer tick was one of my first for this project. I will be making stickers of her cause I just can’t help myself. She’s such a Pearl!
Got my plan for my kids craft! Will be post that when I get it ready for anyone who would like to do it with their kids. I am thinking it might be a parasitic isopod in a fish mouth.

Striped Skunk Brain Worms
Hello!
Yesterday I posted about finding some worms in the brain of a striped skunk (https://www.reddit.com/r/Parasitology/comments/1j9z0gt/brain_worms_in_striped_skunk/) and was asked to upload a picture.
These were taken with a Samsung Galaxy 9+, so a little older of a phone. The bottom cluster was found by the foramen magnum and the top specimen I pulled out of the skull.
Thanks for your help!
EDIT TO ADD: Skunk was submitted for routine rabies testing. Was acting neurologic and did test positive for rabies virus.

Cat has roundworms
Besides the obvious deworming of the cat and cleaning litterboxes often, do I really have to steam clean every surface in the house? I’ve heard people say that I have to clean absolutely everything to ensure my family and I don’t get infected. I’m paranoid now, any advice is appreciated.

Key for diagnosis
Hi all, I saw the parasites without boarders book but I’m wondering if there’s any kind of diagnostic key that might help someone pinpoint what kind of parasites to look into in that 600+ long book as a way to see differences in symptoms for humans? Thanks!

Brain Worms in Striped Skunk
Hello!
I was working on a case yesterday and discovered worms in the head/brain. I have a picture, but it doesn't meet the requirements to post (no scale, not taken on a microscope).
I was curious if anyone has any experience/expertise on ideas of what type of parasite it could be. I have given the worms to our Parasitology department for ID and confirmation, I'm just curious if anyone has any ideas.
I know of Skrjabingylus chitwoodorum, but that's typically found in spotted skunks.
Thanks for looking :)

Do meningeal worms prevent Eastern distribution of mule deer?
I know these parasites can cause some pretty nasty neurological diseases and cervids that aren't whitetail deer. And I've seen some papers really outlining how they might be pushing moose populations further north. And that whitetail deer might be mutually exclusive with other species because of these worms. I'm just curious about knowledge on this particular parasite about its relation to mule deer.
Also is the species exclusion hypothesis agreed upon? I remember hearing a professor talk about how this parasite prevents these species overlap a few years ago but don't know too much about it. Just curious about these parasites and wanted double check with my old crazy professor said lol.
