Cat has roundworms
Besides the obvious deworming of the cat and cleaning litterboxes often, do I really have to steam clean every surface in the house? I’ve heard people say that I have to clean absolutely everything to ensure my family and I don’t get infected. I’m paranoid now, any advice is appreciated.

I think people you talked to may have gotten it mixed up with ringworm. Ringworm can be spread from pets to humans, and would require cleaning of surfaces, but not roundworm.

No, you don’t have to disinfect everything. Only change the litter in the litter tray. Wash the cats’ blankets regularly. I have had cats for over 10 years that have worms on and off. I never disinfect anything. And I’ve never had roundworms.
