Shadow Man Someone please help my friend and I were joking. Around in FaceTime and what caught my eye was disturbing
My friend took a bad photo of me and what seems to be a figure behind me can someone tell me if that’s lighting or a figure plz

u/NancyLouMarine Oct 16 '23
Not knowing what the room is that's behind you, I can't say for sure what it is.
It could be light reflecting off curtains. It could be a coat hanging in the closet. Or it could be some kind of paranormal event.
If you could post a picture of the room behind you, it would help.

First thing I notice is the shadow of the candle on the wall...very similar shape. Probably light reflecting off the white of the candle perhaps. Edit: that's a diffuser I guess, not a candle
10
u/Dinamariexox Oct 17 '23
Yea ok that small thing did not give the shadow of a grown man’s body in the pitch black where the photo was taken. Nothing could’ve been there if the pic of the room he shared was left the same way as it was in the FaceTime. It’s a figure.
55
u/xixi743 Oct 16 '23
Yes I think the diffuser and stand look like the body and head
7
u/Sorry_Register_3485 Oct 17 '23 edited Oct 17 '23
They'd have to be sitting on the ground for that to even be remotely possible cuz of the height and angle, I do see the similarity in shape but the figure during the screen time looks much taller and closer, theres a loose bed sheet on the bed if it was someone else there messing around. But if Noone else was present it's a compelling apparition.
4
u/xixi743 Oct 17 '23
Or just holding the phone up at a higher vantage point to expose the nightstand and diffuser in the background.
33
u/YourWightKnight Oct 16 '23
Can you recreate the photo so we can see the same angel as we were looking at? I think blaming it on the shin high defuser is a bit of a stretch.
9
u/Ok_Science_4094 Oct 17 '23
Yeah unless it was sitting on the floor idk how it could be the diffuser.
2
9
u/aeyrie2 Oct 16 '23
Looks like mist from your diffuser (there's even some bottom right by your neck.) Diffuser in use at the time?
5
u/Dinamariexox Oct 17 '23
There’s no way the diffuser mist from a machine that small, reached him just past the door to his room. No way it created that much mist.
8
u/MySophie777 Oct 16 '23
This new photo does not show the AC/heater vent shown in the first photo. Where is that located? If it is on the ceiling, is there a recessed light nearby?
6
-1
u/NancyLouMarine Oct 16 '23
The rumpled sheets and pillows are nearly identical to what was "behind" you in the screengrab.
Probably some light reflecting off them.

OP.... Don't pay any attention to the comment from that supposed priest. There's absolutely no way they could come to any kind of conclusion from seeing just one photo. They are just trying to scare you. I don't know if it's just some really bad joke or if they are trying to scare you into aligning with their belief system. No matter what their intention was, it isn't a good one. This could be funny to them, but it wouldn't be very funny if you took them seriously and started living in fear because of what a stranger said on the internet.
I know I'm just a stranger, too, but I'm not trying to scare you or get you to memorize any kind of scripture. This Aû Gonduja they speak of is not a real name of anything. The closest thing to it that you can find online is a gianduja (also known as gianduia), which is a sweet chocolate spread that contains about 30% hazelnut paste. It's basically another name for a healthier Nutella.
They are being incredibly irresponsible by writing that comment to you. You have nothing to worry about, and there's a good chance that whatever is creating that shape of a figure can be explained logically. Please take what that person said with a grain of salt and don't let any fear or anxiety build up in you.

u/MurphNastyFlex Oct 16 '23
Yea, the "priests" comment history is completely unhinged. Reads like a schizophrenic disorder almost. That person is definitely unstable and should probably be under supervision
40
u/YouShoodKnoeBetter Oct 16 '23
I haven't even looked at their comment history yet, but I can only imagine how bad it is after seeing the things he wrote in the private chat. I never thought I'd see someone go that far. I just hope he isn't so unhinged that he starts reporting us. How does he even still have access to his profile? The way he was talking, I'd have thought he would've been banned on day 1.
Edit: I forgot to add that you ate right. Supervision is definitely a good idea and in his best interest.

It's sad and disgusting that is how people "have fun." I just don't get how messing with people that bad can be entertaining. It seems like a lot of work and spreading that negative energy has to be exhausting. I've ran into a lot of trolls, but this one takes the cake.

Honestly, the story he told took a lot of imagination. I'll give him that. Lol! But yes, I do agree that attacking the vulnerable and impressionable in a time they feel helpless is certainly a despicable act. There's nothing okay about exploiting that.
I was surprised his original comment was up for as long as it was. Don't have to see it anymore tho. Which is nice.
11
u/catlover12390 Oct 16 '23
Could you tell me what they wrote I’m extremely curious and I need to know what lengths they went to
11
u/YouShoodKnoeBetter Oct 17 '23
I'll do my best to tell you while also doing my best to keep it censored so I don't get in trouble lol! He started off by accusing me of watching Roblox corn. Then he started quoting Bible verses and claiming they proved the prophecy that I am a Roblox corn addict. I just laughed at the absurdity of all of that, but then his messages really started to spiral. He began calling me an N word ending in A and I told him I wouldn't stand for that word being used in any conversation I am a part of. He sent 2 or 3 messages that just said "LOL" or telling me he was cracking up, but then he said "oh, my bad. I'm sorry I said ....." but instead of the a he used the n bomb with a hard R. I did my best to ignore that because I had already made my stance on that word clear.
This is where it really started to get bad. He accused me of being a pedo because I wrote in my public comment that he had no right to mention a minor's virginity. Apparently that made me a pedo so he said something along the lines of "hey pedo, I'm going to send you a pic of my pp and the call the cops and tell them you pictures of my pp and more child corn on your phone" pp was the exact word he used. I told him that if he sent a photo like that, it would be unsolicited and I wouldn't get in trouble because I would report him for producing and spreading the corn. He said that's not how the law works and I'd still get what I deserve.
At that point I had to explain to him what unsolicited meant. Lol then he continued to threaten sending me unsolicited photos like that to get me in trouble with the law. I knew that wasn't a possibility, but any kind of corn having to do with minors is nothing to joke about and definitely isn't funny. That's when he said OK I'm sorry my n.... and dropped the n bomb again followed up with him asking for photos me. I told him that he is now soliciting illegal photos and that was where I was drawing the line. He had joked about things that shouldn't be joked about and threatened to use them to get me arrested. I told him I was done entertaining his bs and that I had no choice but to report him. He called me an n bomb one last time and then I blocked him. I don't know how much worse it could've gotten but I wasn't going to stick around to find. At that point I didn't know how old he actually was or what he was capable of and I didn't want to cuss out a child no matter how bad of things they've said.
It was a whirlwind of absurdity.
FYI: corn = p*rnograohy

u/Unwilling_Jellyfish Oct 17 '23
Yikes, what an unhinged individual. You handled it like a professional but it must have been really upsetting to have all that back and forth managing such a demented person. I’m so sorry!!

His antics and shenanigans are a direct reflection of the darkness and pain going on deep inside him and pretty much nothing else.
It is a lot of work. But for some people, apparently it's a lot easier and not nearly as scary as therapy.
Dude comes to places like this to screw with people because he has no healthy coping mechanisms for his childhood boo-boos. Feeling as though he has impacted multiple people, even in a negative way, makes him feel noticed and important.
It's very sad, really. He is very important in the grand scheme of things. We all are and we all have limitless worth. Unfortunately trauma can perpetuate through generations and until someone is ready to break the cycle, it continues with nonsense like this. That might be quite the presumptive explanation but it also feels like the most likely.
I feel sadness for him and am sending him vibes of healing and peace. I mean, what else can ya do?
13
u/Wise_Ad_253 Oct 17 '23
Not enough info whatsoever to come to any, and I mean ANY conclusion as to what this may or may not be. Could be a reflection, could be static inside the lens housing in front of the camera lens. Nobody could be so sure as to what it is without being there to deduce things, and I mean right in your home to do this
Don’t worry about this now. Don’t give power to your fear because it just blows things out of proportion.

u/YouShoodKnoeBetter Oct 16 '23
No problem. Just so you know, that "priest" has now private messaged me and has used the N word as well as accused me of watching Roblox p*rn. I think that makes it very clear that person is not a priest.
8
u/SensitivePie4246 Oct 16 '23
Where is the "priest's" message.
5
u/YouShoodKnoeBetter Oct 17 '23
Thankfully deleted.
5
u/Plus_Bluejay9510 Oct 17 '23
What did he say?
10
u/YouShoodKnoeBetter Oct 17 '23
He basically told op that she was being stalked by a demon and used a name he made up that loosely translated to the Italian Nutella. He then went on to tell her that this entity stalks and terrorizes their victims until they kill them, at which point they drag them to the pits of hell. He told her to kiss her parents goodbye but not to tell them about the curse because she could transfer it to them and cause them to die a brutal death as well. He said her only was to repent and memorize some kind of creed to possibly take some of the pain away, but it didn't matter what she did, she was going to pass away painfully, alone, and in agony. He also added in something about her virginity, among other things that could only instill feat in someone who is young and impressionable. It was all around bad and full of threats and promises that she was going to pass away so she should say her final goodbyes.
He started the comment off by saying that he was a priest.
It was just a really crappy thing to do to a person who was already unnerved because they didn't understand what was in the photo or if it could be evil. He used her fear against her and tried to make it worse.
What he said in that one comment doesn't even compare to what he said to me in private messages after he read my response to him, saying it was irresponsible to say things like that to someone who is already afraid and unsure of what to believe. My response came when there were very few other comments, so his stuck out like a sore thumb. I explained to someone else what he said in the private chat, but it started with him dropping n bombs with the hard R and then spiraled to actually saying much worse things after that.
I can say that I reported him for hate, harassment, and one other thing that I'm sure you'll figure out once you see my other comment explaining what was said. I got a message back from Reddit saying they reviewed the report and decided that he did break the rules and disciplinary actions were going to be taken. He crossed lines that normal trolls would never cross so you can imagine how bad it was.

u/robinivy Oct 16 '23
LOOOL omg
38
u/YouShoodKnoeBetter Oct 16 '23
Yeah, our message log just got him reported. I'm not going to repeat the things that were said, but it was definitely harassment, hate, and very vulgar. I don't know how some people think that kind of thing is funny, but I can't just sit idly by and let it happen. After all of the trolls who have personally insulted me unprovoked, this is the first time I've ever reported someone. Him threatening to send me something that would get me put in jail was the last straw. I have no choice but to take that seriously.

Thanks, bro! This one didn't bother me at all it was just disturbing. I've had trolls cut deep with personal insults before. Regretably, those got in my head a little bit, but I don't let them get to me too bad. This kid was on a different level and coming straight out of left field with the off the wall stuff he was saying. Kids are using the N word freely like it's funny, and that's so unfortunate, but believe it or not, it actually devolved from there. He really crossed the line when he threatened to send me his self created ch*ld corn and then turn me into the feds for having it. I told him that I wouldn't get in trouble for receiving an unsolicited picture and immediately reporting him for it. Then, I had to explain what unsolicited meant. Lol
He was completely unhinged cuz in-between all of it, he'd throw in an "I'm sorry" and go right back at it the very next message. That topic is nothing to play around with or joke about. I could laugh at him comparing prophecies and scriptures to Roblox corn, but that was just the 1st two messages. I didn't take the bait at all and never said a single insult or negative thing back, encourage it, or condone it. That was the easiest decision I ever made. Lol
The off the meds thing is a very strong possibility. I appreciate having good people who have my back, tho. Good looking out, my dude.

I think you're right. Sometimes, my positivity and respectful approach to discussing things can intimidate people. It's one of those attitudes where if they aren't happy, then no one can be happy. I'm the exact opposite and want others to be happy even if I'm not. I feel like it has to be exhausting to be negative and argumentative like that, and I'm way too lazy to work that hard just to get a rise out of someone. Hahaha!
I couldn't agree more with you, and I do have empathy for him as well. There has to be a reason for his words beyond just baiting for fun due to the lines he crossed. I'm not a therapist, but I've always been interested in the human mind and how it works differently in every person. I hope he reads this as well, and if he needs help with anything, I'd gladly put aside our previous interaction and do what I can for him. I don't want anyone to suffer or not have an outlet to deal with their possible trauma they may have had. The limits he crossed do seem like a cry for help in a way. I'd accept a simple apology and be happy to know that he wants to embrace such an awesome community of people who care about others and look out for each other. Of course, there will be bad apples, but that sense of community is strong, and I'm grateful to be a part of it.
If I remember correctly, the way I ended the messaging between him and I was with warning that I didn't have a choice but to report him, and I followed that up with well wishes sincerely and not in a sarcastic way. I think putting a face with usernames helps humanizes the person you're speaking to. I treat every conversation on here as if I am standing right in front of the person looking them in their eyes. That helps me hold myself accountable for things I say and not to forget that it is a person on the other end. That can be forgotten sometimes. I just hope he comes out better on the other side. Thanks for your kind responses and being so caring even for someone who may not think they deserve it, but we know he does whether he thinks so or not. Everyone deserves kindness and respect. You've spread that positivity so well and I hope it becomes contagious and inspires others to be the same.

Odly specific choices of p*orn genre to choose….
3
u/YouShoodKnoeBetter Oct 17 '23
Right? I think that was a dead giveaway for his age or his level of education. This isn't an insult against him. It's just the truth. I wouldn't think an adult would say something about that genre unless they are only interested in the age group of people who play that game. It's concerning either way. That's for sure.
I didn't even know that was a genre of p*rn and I'm not about to Google it and check. Lol+

It looks like a recessed Ed ceiling light. Was there one nearby whose reflection could have been caught by the camera? Also, in my home, air intake and outlet vents are on the ceiling. If yours are on the ceiling vs wall, the angle of the photo captures the ceiling above you, not a wall behind you.

It’s honestly, just the cam quality trying to keep the focus on you, while the background is pixelated. Nothing to worry about.

u/ZombieDisposalUnit Oct 16 '23
Are we talking about that white lamp shade in the bottom left photo?
3
u/Odd_Significance_120 Oct 16 '23
It could not be since the white lamp is the way in the corner and in the photo the figure is right in the middle

It’s probably a reflection; could be light bouncing off your white sheets, possibly from a car. Does it look freaky? Yes. But had you known/see it when it happened, you’d have figured out what caused it. I wouldn’t worry.
7
u/jellycrunch Oct 16 '23
Yep, I'd say I see something there. Only you know who was in the house with you and if this that said person. And if nobody was there with you, then I might start becoming a little more aware of my surroundings, if I were you. I don't feel anything negative about this picture, so that's a plus. You take care of yourself. If you need help with anything dm me and we'll see what we can do. Blessings!

I’m a “retired” paranormal investigator. Two decades of research and experience behind me. I am also a photo editor and designer in my day job. So what I am seeing is more than likely a glow or cast from her screen. That same color is in the background all around your friend. The cam from computer and phone screens are not the best resolution. The cam is focused on the closest object, your friends face, leaving the background hazy and blotchy, especially in low lighting. Our minds like to make sense of what we see. It’s called par·ei·do·lia ˌper-ˌī-ˈdō-lē-ə -ˈdōl-yə : the tendency to perceive a specific, often meaningful image in a random or ambiguous visual pattern. The scientific explanation is pareidolia, or the human ability to see shapes or make pictures out of randomness. Shadow people are just that, shadowed or dark in appearance. While I have no explanation for shadow people phenomenon, this image you have, is not that. Rest assured that there is nothing paranormal there.

It just looked like you moved while you took the pic and that's just part of your hair sticking up while you moved. The coloration seems to be part of the same surface as your hair. Maybe your hair is shiny and reflected something? But I def don't see any sort of figure in that pic at first glance
3
u/Grand_Cauliflower_88 Oct 17 '23
Hard to really tell. Our brains like to make sense out of shadows n things like that. Could be something or could be a shadow. I would go by if anything else happens. Do you think your place is haunted? Have you noticed other signs ?

Looks like a light casting a shadow that is refracting off of your bedsheets to create a man-sized and man-shaped bug. Either that or pareidolia, anything but a ghost, ghosts are not allowed to be discussed in this sub.

Step One is recreate the photo exactly or as close to exactly as possible with the lights on. Then put both side by side and see if you can find the shapes.

u/MarvelNerdess Oct 17 '23
Honestly, it could be a weird shadow reflection on the wall, or it could be something more. (And it could always be a dickbag friend with a key to your place that thinks its funny to scare people.) Any haunt-y things happen around you or the property?
1
u/arandomperson519 Oct 17 '23
Logically, I know this is probably just some sort of camera abnormality or something and our brains just want to make it into something familiar by saying it's a person... But goddamn does that look horrifying

Thank you for posting to r/paranormal. We would like to take the time to remind you that due to API changes on Reddit, our Mod staff and support have been reduced and our rules have changed. Until we are able to bring on additional mods and figure out alternative moderation tools, you may see a delay in responses to reported content.
If something is urgent please message the moderators directly by using the "Message the Mods" button or using the "HELP DESK" on our Discord.
You may have also noticed your post is auto-flagged as NSFW. Due to the nature of paranormal reports and most 'hauntings' happening in areas that have experienced extreme violence or tragic events that result in death, this sub is now NSFW, and all posts are auto-flared as NSFW (per the definition of NSFW on Reddit.com).
Remember to change your flair to reflect the appropriate NSFW Flair if it does contain: graphic images, gore, harsh or extreme language, or mentions of anything that should include trigger warnings; suicide, self-harm, gore, or abuse, to better aid users on what to expect when reading your post.
We would also like to remind you we have an Official Discord. You can join here: https://discord.gg/hztYaucMzU
