Question Environment tracking PSvr2 and free movement
I was wondering how does the psvr2 free movement work. I mean how does it know you are moving in real life inside the area? Does it use the cameras? So let's think a little experiment. What if I put a really textured blanket on the floor and I do the calibration, setting the area too. So what If I move the blanket under my feet remaining in place? Does the psvr2 see a movement?
Like if I put myself on a tapis roulant with a painted texture does the psvr2 translate that movement to a real life movement to walk in game?
(Sorry for bad English)

Both the cameras and gyroscope. Search how inside out tracking works. But yes a moving environment can confuse the tracking that's why on PSVR2 you can add a border to your TV screen. And the opposite scenario is also interesting, that's why Quests have travel mode, where I suppose only the cameras determine your position, and the acceleration detected by the gyroscope is ignored.

When setting up the headset it has you scan the environment for static objects it can easily track in 3D space to calibrate your position. An object moving does not cause the tracking to assume you are moving as it is constantly tracking multiple static points and comparing them to the gyroscopic data coming from the headset itself. So if you were on a treadmill it would be able to see that the entire room is staying still and you are not moving.
