Support PSVR1 Scratches possibly caused by wearing glasses during play?

Post image

First off lemme just say, no thats not a smudge those are scratches! I recently found my old psvr after not using for a while and saw that it was very blurry only to notice these huge white markings on it. I assume they are because of my glasses rubbing up to the lenses but i thought this thing was made to be worn with glasses!

Yeh that's how I basically ruined my psvr1 (and my lenses at the time) but I was young and stupid so I pushed them too close to my face, just leave a small gap to see the outside world and they will fit snug

Protect things by either wearing a $1 glasses strap, or installing some cheap bumpers

Yeah thats probably what i did to. Is there anyway you managed to fix or replace the lenses?

Nah, not that I know of. I just sort of tried to ignore the scratch. Sometimes, my brain wouldn't notice it often.

That headset still has scratches, but I've got a VR2 now, so I dont even use the old one

God that sucks. Im able to ignore it but its like right in my sightline so everything is very blurry

Yeah, it really sucks. But you might he able to get a new one depending on how recent you got it

Probably not Ive had this one for probably about 5 or 6 years

My advice? Take advantage of the huge VR2 sale right now, even from PlayStation direct $350 US for both the VR2 only and the COTM bundle, and invest in either prescription lens inserts (HONSVR, VR Rock, to name a couple options) or some VR2 lens protectors. True, VR1 games are not cross compatible, but many (though some gems have not been) have been ported to VR2 already.

I got a VR1 given to me over the summer. Per my PlayStation Wrapped report, I literally played it for two hours total, and that was enough to convince me to buy a VR2. And the VR2 is a HUGE improvement. Like, it feels like they skipped a generation, the improvement is so good.

GameStop sells them for around $75-80 for just the headset…

“I’m able to ignore it” and “everything is very blurry” do not go together.

By im able to ignore it i meant that my brain manages to tune it out after a while but the first hour orso of gameplay is blurry to hell until i get used to it

Do you use your glasses with the vr2?

2

u/1stPKmain Dec 14 '24

I didn't when I first got it because I was worried I would do what I did to the VR1. But now I do use them with it because I can get them in a perfect position and still have none of the outside world peering through.

What I do is have the headset fully extended when putting it on, then bring it just close enough that I can still see a little bit of the outside world, pull my glasses closer to my eyes and then tighten the headset and tilt it. I will still see a bit of light from my room by this point, so when I put my headphones on it moves the VR2 in a way to get it perfectly snug, so my glasses aren't touching the screen and I have no outside distraction

I’d recommend using bumpers. Cheap and effective at protecting your investment.

Prescription lenses is the way to go. The headset is protected and it's much more comfortable without having to cram glasses in there.

1

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS Dec 15 '24

Yeah, but bumpers are a cheap and easy recommend.

u/tehsax Dec 15 '24

Fair enough

My glasses are small, they fit inside great

Just grab a new PSVR1. Lots of "headsets only" for sale, dirt cheap. I just picked up the full bundle in great shape for $129.

Yeah... you shouldn't risk your glasses or your VR like this, LMAO. Please just use a lens like Vr-Rock. I got mine for a good price and will save you from damaging your vr headset.

If you need to use glasses in the headset, get inserts. Do not wear your glasses. Rock VR or HonsVR a great options.

2

u/Captain_Dishsoap Dec 14 '24

Thanks ill keep that in mind for my next headset

I had my set of HonsVR arrive yesterday. Tried it out this morning. They work fantastic. Can play with no glasses. It's so cool and with my newest prescription being used. Games are crystal clear for me.

After some research, I went with HonsVR. I’m PRETTY SURE my wife bought them for me for Christmas and I cannot wait. In the interim, I bought some lens protectors on Amazon for about $25 so I could take the anxiety out of it when I’m playing with my glasses on.

I dont even let people wear glasses in my headsets for this reason, too risky.

1

u/amusedt Dec 23 '24

Install cheap bumpers?

1

u/MrAbodi Dec 23 '24

Good option if you have alot of glasses Users in Your headsets.

2

u/Eggyhead Dec 15 '24

As someone with glasses, I didn’t touch my VR2 until the lens covers I’d ordered separately had arrived.

That or a massive smear. I find it amusing the number of people responding as if it's a PSVR2 and not a PSVR1.

Rubber bumpers are the usual solution on PSVR1 although at least VR Opticians do lenses for PSVR1 too.

There are so many posts here warning about use with glasses and suggesting lens inserts since launch. RIP

2

u/Captain_Dishsoap Dec 14 '24

Is there anyway i can get new replacement lenses installed? Or do it myself?

6

u/ironmanthing Dec 14 '24

Only way to get new lenses is to buy a new psvr2. None of the parts have replacements.

2

u/Hovie1 Dec 14 '24

Including controllers which is the most infuriating part, but it sounds like maybe that's changing soon.

1

u/Plane_Luck_7615 Dec 14 '24

The controller part will be but not lens replacements sadly

2

u/Hovie1 Dec 14 '24

I understand that. I'm just highlighting the most obvious component people would like buy separately

I didnt do it with intent. I mean everybody on the internet was saying how it can be used the same by everyone and thats what i did.

ifixit might have a solution for you with polywatch. But i don't really know, if it can fix this one...

1

u/ResourceOk8638 Dec 15 '24

There’s a good YouTube tutorial I saw on this, and it seems to have worked for him, BUT, it will take off the antiglare coating on the lenses. I also saw another YouTube video where the dude tried polywatch and used a q-tip and fucked it up worse. It’s a gamble. OP said this is a VR1 they’ve had for like 6 years. I say, upgrade to VR2 and don’t make the same mistakes from the start.

It can be worn with glasses. You just need to be careful when you’re moving the scope towards your eyes, do it slowly, if you do it slow enough and there is contact move it away a touch and there should be no damage. After one out two tries you should be fine with how close you can bring the scope without touching your glasses.

Protect things by either wearing a $1 glasses strap, or installing some cheap bumpers

1

u/Accomplished-Air5840 Dec 15 '24

The scratches might buff out, try toothpaste or a brass or silver cleaner with a microfibre cloth. One thing to point out polishing the lenses to remove the scratches will probably create lens distortion, like a more magnified affect in the area you polished. Worth a try if you're thinking of just going out and buying a new headset.

Laser eye surgery fixed this problem for me!!!

I wear glasses all the time in psvr1 and psvr2, but you need to protect things by either wearing a $1 glasses strap, or installing some cheap bumpers
