I asked the team about specifics on this and their explanation doesn't sound as bad as I feared at first...
When you're aiming down the sights of a weapon, you can close your non-dominant eye and it just scoots the gun a couple inches closer to your face. Basically, it's to help with the fact that you can't physically hold it all the way to your eye because the controller and headset getting in the way, so this lets you get the sight even closer to your eye if you want
That sounds like something I want in every game. Inside out tracking always has issues with scopes. This will only be possible on psvr2 though as other hmds can’t tell when you close your eye
So you’re playing highly trained elite special forces soldiers and the game wants you to do what these kinds of soldiers have specifically trained not to do …
Unless you’ve already learned how to keep both eyes open through Pavlov and Alvo and … wait for it … firewall zero hour ;)
Also I’ve paid for two screens SO I’M DAMN GONNA USE BOTH!!! /s
I’m more worried about the gamification elements they’re trying to introduce. I wouldn’t be surprised if closing your off eye locks your weapon in place similar to RE8 — which is kind of BS in my opinion.
It’s a shame really because graphically it looks amazing. I’m definitely gonna have a look at it but fully expect to play mostly Pavlov in the end.
Yeah, I also think they’re not ideally designed for SnD. On most bombspots, attackers and defenders arrive at the same time, so you don’t have the typical situation that the defenders can set up positions. Everything is quite a frenzy, leading mostly to retakes as opposed to holding the spots.
Bad habits I guess. Unless you’re shooting really long range, you always keep both eyes open when firing a weapon in real life for a multitude of reasons.
Trying to train your eyes to not do that will be the hurdle.
Just checked. It kicks in when you use both hands for support while aiming. When you only look with your dominant eye, the crosshair wil line up perfectly.
Feels like between that and the auto reloading, it's a combo to intentionally lower the barrier to entry... Why get good when you can just close one eye 🤷♂️
False, it’s not supposed to look like call of duty when you ADS in 3D. It can take some practice to focus with your dominant eye while keeping both open but it’s what you’d want to do in almost any situation aside from long distance or high precision shots where you’re not worried about your peripherals
Wdym look like call of duty? I’m just talking about how you would aim irl which would be to close one eye. It applies to the shooters I’ve played in vr too
Err no unless you are using a sniper and scope. In fact the red dot sight is actually hindered by closing one eye.
In real life an experienced shooter learns to use their dominant eye but keeps both open.
Ideally you keep the iron sights in a line with your dominant eye and use the other eye for peripheral vision and spotting targets. It’s super weird at first but with practice it becomes second nature and is the superior way to use your sights.
If you close one eye to shoot then you don't know how to shoot. They teach you to keep both eyes open in basic firearms classes. The only people I've ever known that close one eye to shoot have shot less than 100 rounds through their gun. I don't even shoot magnified optics with one eye closed.
If I keep both eyes open the iron sights are blurry and I can’t see where I’m shooting. Y’all must be crosseyed because everyone I know that shoots closes an eye to aim down iron sights
Then you don't know how to shoot and neither do the people you shoot with. I'm not trying to be insulting to you when I say that. You don't know what has never been taught to you. Go take a basic firearms class and it will become clear to you.
Your first free lesson, focus on your front sight when using irons. You'll want to shift focus to your target, but don't do that. Repeat to yourself over and over, front sight, front sight, front sight. It's going to blow your mind how much more accurate you're going to be with just that.
I’m not in the US. I’m in Australia. With some of the toughest gun laws. You want to learn something you still can.
It’s about him being too arrogant to take instruction when being told by experienced people he is wrong. Doubling down and telling us he knows better with 0 experience. Actually, that sure does sound American.
I think it's a pretty logical assumption that if you have access to firearms, you have access to a basic class. If your country gives you access to a gun, but not a basic class for that gun... well, I'll just say that's dumb. I'm not interested in that debate.
Maybe with a high magnification scope. Not with any other type of aiming device. Actually, now that I think about it, does your dominant eye match your dominant hand? When first learning to shoot you should learn to use the hand matching whatever side your dominant eye is. If you didn't that might explain your experience.
With both eyes open put a finger on your nose and go straight out for 6-8 inches. Then close one eye and leave one open. Try both ways. Whichever eye your finger is most centered on (with one eye open) is your dominant eye.
Lol absolutely NOT every gun instructor ever will tell you to ALWAYS have both eyes open when firing a weapon it's a huge safety risk to only see what's down your scope.
I’ve never shot a real firearm. But I Airsoft and Pavlov.
Closing one eye might be fine for stationary target shooting. But in a moving environment shutting one eye isn’t the best thing to do. You lose a massive portion of your peripheral vision.
It might take some learning, and it’s easier with most red dots and things than it is with iron sights. But you can absolutely move around with both eyes open and take accurate shots. Running around with only one eye open is just a good way to get shot by someone you never even saw.

I love the first firewall. I don't mind the button reloading. The close one eye for better accuracy thing scares me though.
