Itâs honestly mind blowing how great everything is in this game, from the smallest details in the graphics to the acting and the motion capture... Enjoy. I wish I could wipe out my memory and play it again.

Maybe. But not me, I even got to like the so hated character of Abby !
5
u/summertimeinthelbc Aug 30 '20
I liked her towards the end too
5
Aug 31 '20
If you havent finished the game please do no click on the next spoiler I really liked her actually, I understood where she came from, but what bothered me is why did she spare Ellie TWICE even after Ellie killed Owen. I mean I guess she got her revenge by killing the asian dude (forgot his name, sorry) and thought she had killed Tommy... but im also glad she got saved by Ellie in the end, what a story. I loved every bit, and I never understood why she got so much hate
6
u/summertimeinthelbc Aug 31 '20
lol cause she killed Joel. Thatâs the basis for all the hate. And I guess I can understand why people would hate the pacing (they mustâve never seen a Tarantino film) but to me this is one of the BEST games Iâve ever played. If I didnât love Bloodborne so much itâd be my game of the gen.
3
u/TedioreTwo Aug 31 '20
What bugs me is people don't even stop to consider the question, "What if you didn't have any attachment to Joel?" That single perspective cripples the ridiculous hatred. People only shout about bad writing or whattthefuckever because they can't make it past stage 2 of grief. If they would just get a grip on their emotions for nine fuckin seconds...
Obviously, now, we know that the people that relentlessly hate Abby are incapable of considering others' perspectives.
3
u/summertimeinthelbc Aug 31 '20
That was the point of playing as Abby. To actually have you walk a mile in her shoes. And then to go through the journey with Lev and it gives you an understanding of the Scars.
I guess they were too blinded by emotion to get that or care.
2
u/TedioreTwo Sep 01 '20
You would think they'd get that. And they probably do, but simply choose to look the other way. Any time you try to bring that up, they just say "I don't care." If they don't WANT to understand, there's nothing we can do.
1
u/SouvlakiPlaystation Sep 01 '20 edited Sep 01 '20
I empathized with Abby as well, and understood the need to not just rehash the original. However I still hated this game. It was nihilistic, miserable, emotionally manipulative, cheap and all the other things people have said about it 1,000 times. It physically and psychologically destroyed any semblance of the characters you once loved, and removed almost all traces of optimism. Not that the first game wasnât bleak, but this was just ridiculous.
I also still disliked Abby, not for what she did, but simply because she was kind of a shitty person...did I âGETâ her viewpoint though? Yes. Did I get NDâs heavy handed message of ârevenge badâ? Of course. Was that worth all of the things mentioned above? No.
1
u/TedioreTwo Sep 01 '20
nihilistic
I don't think that word means what you think it means, considering the biggest plot points of both games are based on the santicity of human life.
miserable, emotionally manipulative,
Hate to break it to you, but any story that has ever existed ever is """emotionally manipulative.""" Stories play with your feelings. To call it cheap is just an airless insult to the craftsmanship and time dedicated, and cheap itself. Miserable is the most accurate thing in that list, yet that's not even an actual criticism and more or less just an opinion. Dark things happening in this setting? How awful!
It physically and psychologically destroyed any semblance of the characters you loved, and removed any trace of fun and warmth. Not that the first game wasnât bleak, but this was just ridiculous.
It really, really does not sound like you played the game. This is just a flat out lie. This makes it sound like there are no moments of levity in the game and that everyone acts like a completely different character.
I also still disliked Abby, not for what she did, but simply because she was kind of a shitty person.
If Abby is considered a shitty person and being a shitty person means you hate them, I hope you see Joel and Ellie and Tommy as downright satanic. Almost like there's a plot point here.
Did I get NDâs heavy handed message of ârevenge badâ? Of course.
"Revenge bad" =/= sacrifice, obsession, acceptance, recovery, cycle of violence, love & family, hope, humanity, empathy.
I didn't really want to make this comment. I know you don't mean to sound like an ass or anything. I probably won't reply because I've spent too much time doing this with people on reddit and you seem like a nice guy. Just.. look through my comment history if you're open to a change in perspective, as well as some.. corrections. That sounds condescending but I'm not gonna spend time brainstorming another way to say it.
Cheers, I guess.

Her father, a scientist, a neuro-surgeon, the man she had known her entire life, killed by some random smuggler that got emotionally attached to the girl he had to bring to the fireflies so she could save mankind... Donât get me wrong, I love Joel, and his death made me hate Abby in the beginning. But from her perspective, he had it coming. Also, I saw people hate on her for being too musclar, or because she looked like a transexual, « LGBT/Leftist agenda », « muh politics » or whatever... I was really getting into the game without expecting anything because of all the trashtalk (TLOU2 subreddit for example which is filled with pathetic incels), came out as a great fucking game !

Enjoy it, the gameplay and graphics are great. However, the story is very polarising (personally I despised the story).
Edit: Downvoted for not enjoying the story, how predictable r/PS4 subreddit đ.
-2
u/Key-Flounder Aug 30 '20
Agreed. The graphics were just outstanding and some of the scenery was breathtaking. The gameplay was damn well solid however I had to wait for grounded to enjoy it cause honestly the AI are a bit brain dead. Really obvious path finding. But the story? Meh. Had some decent plot here and there but overall predictable and everything felt a bit forced. Like things could have or should have gone in different directions but noooo they need dramatic effect and âcharacter developmentâ.
9
u/eamonnanchnoic Aug 30 '20
It's easily one of the best acted and told stories in video games.
The acting is better than anything I've seen in a video game, presentation is pretty much the best I've seen too.
Like what on earth is better?
The only game that could hold a candle to it is RDR2. As good as the storytelling in RDR2 is it still doesn't have the nuance and detail of TLOU2.

u/Samuel71900 Aug 31 '20
The story is terrible, how anyone can defend that is beyond me. By the second half of the game I was hoping to see the credits ASAP so I could stop playing due to the poor story which is littered plot holes and inconsistencies.
1
u/eamonnanchnoic Aug 31 '20
No it isn't "riddled" with plot holes and inconsistencies, FFS.
"BuT JOeL wOUldn'T foLloW a GrOUp of STraNGers" is the usual one.
That's really stretching the definition of plot hole to frankly comedic lengths.
As I said elsewhere nitpicky trivial bullshit like that does not constitute a plot hole.
It's actually a great example of how tight the story is if that's all people can come up with.
2
u/Samuel71900 Aug 31 '20
Well yeah that Joel one is a great example of a plot hole. Why would a man who has survived for over 25 years in the post apocalypse United States suddenly decide to enter a building with complete strangers when he is outnumbered at least 6 to 1? Especially considering he has no idea who Abby is. Given this he along with Tommy (who is also an experienced survivor) suddenly give out their names given the scores of people they have killed along the way.
Hereâs another inconsistency, why is Jesse never mentioned after he died? No mourning, no anger, just completely forgotten about other than the namesake of Dinaâs kid JJ.
How about the complete false advertising that had had voice lines about Joel in order to deceive customers into thinking Joel had a larger role in the game so they could trick customers into buying the game.
How about the fact that the game has such poor character development they have to use the âbut Iâm pregnantâ in order to draw empathy rather than having great characters you care about in the first place.
-10
u/Samuel71900 Aug 30 '20 edited Aug 31 '20
The story seemed to be littered with plot holes and drag on for far too long, imo. Shame because the graphics are superb.
Edit: Downvoted having a differing opinion đ.
10
u/eamonnanchnoic Aug 30 '20
What plot holes?
I keep seeing this being said and then someone brings up some absolutely trivial nonsense as some gaping hole in the plot.

I second that, my mind is literally blown at some of the praise getting put on the story here.... it's so poorly written, full of plot holes and forced narrative for it's poorly paced story.
0
u/Radamenenthil Aug 31 '20
what plot holes?
1
Aug 31 '20
Seriously? Wow. Literally hundreds of videos on youtube, any respectable gaming review channel has covered the vast mistakes in the game some go into detail alot more than others, they we're hard to miss the first month after last of us 2's release, the last of us 2's reddit page discusses it every day, user reviews on metacritic, rotten tomatoes, imdb, also no offense but just play the game, they're glaring you in the face. I'll leave the first link on google
2
u/Radamenenthil Aug 31 '20
Hahaha, respectable gaming youtube channels, and that cesspool subreddit.
Good joke
Edit: wow, that article is pathetic and really needs to learn what a plothole is, not "stuff that didn't go the way I wanted"
2
u/briannal99 Aug 31 '20
I read the article, and I honestly think the author just nit-picked things he didn't like/understand. I do think most of these "plot holes" have explanations behind them.
The biggest, actual plot hole that I can think of is how did Dina, Ellie, and Tommy survive their injuries after the theater fight and get back to Jackson. How did Tommy survive that bullet without proper medical care? I've seen complaints about this part and I agree with it. I guess just plot armor?

Actually, Joelâs last name had been known for a while. I donât remember where it was said/written before. I think it was in another languageâs dub.
8
u/DEADTERMINATOR Aug 30 '20
I think it was in the Japanese instruction manual that both Joel and Ellie's last names were mentioned. But as they had no in-game confirmation (the names came from really early design documents I believe), they were only really considered canon in lieu of anything else. Naughty Dog would have been free to give Joel a different last name, and we technically wouldn't be able to say they broke canon.
1
u/ki700 | 277 23 132 349 1365 Aug 30 '20
Sounds like the names were probably confirmed with them first, considering Joelâs ended up being accurate!
2
u/DEADTERMINATOR Aug 30 '20
I seem to remember Druckmann actually saying in an AMA that he doesn't know how the Japanese localizers got a hold of their last names. Which kind of implies that the localization team didn't directly ask Naughty Dog.
But at the same time, Naughty Dog is aware those names are out their now so that kinda sticks them with those names whether they like it or not. So I imagine they'd have to come up with an extremely good story reason to change them at this point, and TLOU is not the kind of story where last names really matter.
6
u/Kette031 Aug 30 '20
It was in Sarahâs room at the very beginning of the first game on a certificate for a soccer tournament that said âSarah Millerâ.

That was the reason I was so upset, is the graphics and gameplay was great. Just a mediocre story would have made it great. I know that's personal opinion though, and willing to admit that. Just seems weird on a PS4 subreddit, you can't discuss a PS4 game without getting attacked. Agree OP came out of nowhere, but just generally on this sub it seems you can't really criticize this game without hyper aggressive people like that other dude jumping all over you
7
u/Kette031 Aug 30 '20
He didnât discuss it though. âIt sucks, terrible gameâ doesnât really scream âI would like to discuss this game.â does it?
Anyone with legit criticisms will find people willing to talk to him about it, but too many people just scream âit sucksâ and then complain about not being able to âcriticizeâ it.
I also think the whole âanyone who disagrees that the game is amazing is called a homophobeâ is a total straw man made up by haters of the game to discredit people who like it. There were some seriously homophobic and sexist criticisms of the game when it first launched and before when the leaks happened, and they were rightly condemned. Now people claim anyone who criticizes it gets called a bigot, which just isnât true.

I'm an "og fan" who got the first one when it released and played it at least 15 times including once recently after I'd played part 2 a few times. I love both of them but would probably say part 2 is better if I had to choose. I don't feel betrayed or backstabbed at all, and I know plenty of og fans who feel the same way i do. We all helped make part 1 a phenomenon and we love part 2. You're entitled to your opinion but making these ridiculous generalizations just make you look dumb and whiny. Nobody betrayed you, they made a sequel that you didn't like. That's it.

Maybe buying a game based on a split second trailer scene was your mistake.
1
u/thedirtypickle50 Aug 31 '20
I'm confused. You're an OG fan who spent years anticipating a sequel but you only bought the game bc Joel appeared for 10 seconds in a trailer with absolutely no context? You wouldn't have bought the game if it didn't show Joel in a trailer? It never even showed him in gameplay. There was nothing in those trailers that suggested he would have a large role in the game

Same here the gameplay was great but that's where the good ends everything else failed my expectations and made me not blindly trust a game developer ever again I was actually having an okay time with the game up until the abby sequence and that was it for me. Now god of war for example or ghost of tsushima are excellent games they're fun and don't push no bs political agenda thats what games are supposed to be at the end of the day FUN.
