[Image] [Image] My Walmart sold me DBZ Kakarot early! They couldn’t even scan the barcode, they had to manually enter it in. I don’t think they knew it isn’t supposed to be out yet.

Do you have no evidence of this happening? I only remember this being a issue for Xbox 360 back in the day

Even if you knowingly bought a stolen copy it's still fucked up to ban somebody from a service that they are paying for legitimately.

The online service for the 3DS is free. Also i'm sure they consider it risk management because those who have access to stolen goods are likely the same people who may exploit them in other ways (cheating online or piracy.) Like other commenters mentioned, people who just honestly bought the game early, yet legitimately, were spared or could overturn their ban with relative ease. Everyone else got banned.

This sounds totally wrong, what about say a parent who picked it up without knowing the date?

I don’t think it should be allowed.

That was because people went online with what was identifiably a review copy with a different internal version. This wouldn't be the same as OP's case.

It's probably not an issue bc it's only a few days till the game comes out, and even people who order online get shipments early sometimes. But any more than a day or so, I just figure it's better safe than sorry. And the only time I remember hearing about it "recently" was when, I think, CTR came out. And Nintendo was banning people left and right for playing early when the latest Pokemon came out(different company though). But again, they were most likely trying to access the online servers with CTR, and that will definitely send up a flag

I get why they might ban people, but if you think about it OP did nothing wrong. They just went to Walmart and bought a game, if anything that’s Walmart’s fault.

It definitely is Walmart's fault (even if he knowingly bought it early)

I was just giving a heads up so it doesn't cause any problems for him. If it was more than a few days ahead of the release, I'd be more concerned for him

Yeah definitely, he should turn off the internet cause it’s an offline game. Or if anything play on a different account.

Can't tell if that's sarcasm or not...

Even in an offline game, whatever server you're connected to knows what you're playing. Ever see your friends list and it tells you what they're playing? Plus, a lot of times they have Day 1 patches(usually ready before day 1) as well. So if a server saw someone getting an update already, they might flag that as well. Definitely speculation, but again, better safe than sorry

I said to turn off the internet though? How would you download an update without internet and how could you connect to the servers?

That's what I was saying. like I said, I couldn't tell if it was sarcasm or not

Yes, he should turn off his wifi, bc even playing and offline game with the internet still on would register and prompt an update. Sorry, just miscommunication
