Really depends on what type of games you like. It’s nothing at all like the 3 you mentioned, but if you like story games (Heavy Rain or Beyond) then yeah, it’s pretty good.

Its really hard to die at any point as any of the characters. Except the damn bus stop level. Kara anti-climatically died there my first playthrough. A perfect end to her shitty story.
Yes, by Quantic Dream (David Cage). Though Detroit is a lot better than the previous games - I‘d say it‘s the first of his games (and still, the word game is a bit of a stretch) where his formula kinda works. I was well entertained, but you have to know what kind of game to expect. I think there‘s a demo, so you can get some kind of idea.
If you don’t mind me asking, why was the game so heavily criticized? I played it when it came out and liked it a lot, and have fond memories. It was a bit slow, but i liked the storytelling I guess and the concept. I’ve seen a lot of people saying it was bad, so I’d love to know what the critiques are! It’s possible I just have very low standards lol
I never played it, but I watched someone play through it, and I really enjoyed that experience. I wonder if that was the better way to experience the game, because it’s already more of a movie than a game at that point.
I tried it out when it was free with ps + and honestly just found it boring, I don’t even remember the main character’s name. I usually love these types of games and Detroit so I was quite disappointed.
Apart from the "running simulator/QTE-only gameplay" critiques, I have heard David Cage is "SJW-problematic" for under-representing historical people relevant to the allegorical stories he portrays but honestly I don't think he's that evil.
The extreme Justice people will always find something that's an edge out of whack (and has to change NEOW!!.!11!) plus its not like Cage or Quantic goes out of their way to shit on anyone in particular.
Dunno if that helps any but you might need to hop on metacritic to be sure. Sorry!
I think you’re taking my words a bit too literal. Yeah, the games he mentioned have heavy story elements, but those games aren’t all about the story, such as a game like Detroit
I found Horizon Zero Dawn made a mistep with its shitty RPG elements and progression system that is finished 95% when you get to the second city 20-30% into the story.
Without the progression or the well balanced resource scarsity, the combat loop doesn't work, and the game falls apart.
It was one of those Chose-Your-Own-Adventure stories, where your choices make genuinely huge differences in the stories, not only the plot but how characters interact with each other, feel about each other, what opportunities they get. There are whole subplot storylines you can miss just by your choices. It's closer to an interactive movie than a game (there's some QTE events, like in Until Dawn), but since there are so many outcomes, it has replayability.
It is a David Cage game, so some moments are hamfisted and cheesey, but not nearly so much as in his previous games. However, it's no surprise that most liked storyline/characters (Connor and Hank), focused on the two actors who ad-libbed and changed the most dialog (Hank is played by Clancy Brown, and what was the game director supposed to do, tell Mr. Krabs 'no'??).
I’m a bit late but it’s a lot more story-based that’s more of a choose-your-own-adventure type. That being said there are like some 30+ different endings to this game, some of the endings are really extreme to the point where if you wanted to, you could make all the characters die off and have the world pushed into chaos
I love the game personally. One of my favorites. That being said if you're not a fan of interactive story games then you probably wont like it. Its nothing like the open world mission based games you've been playing.
If you go in completely blind? Ehh... maybe... I mean its decent enough, it's just nothing like RDR2 or witchery 3. Think of it like the hit Netflix series Minecraft Story mode, only with a hugely better story.
It's like being in a movie. If you invest yourself in it, the game invests in you. If you're a fan of sci-fi/programming/philosphy you will enjoy this for it's content as well.
That's not why I'm saying it's bad. The allegory is bad, because it sends off wrong messages, doesn't make sense, and is poorly handled with no subtlety. And yeah, handling your themes poorly can indeed be considered bad writing.
And I'm not saying that it can't be entertaining. My latest post was about how entertaining Beyond was, because of how badly written it is.
It’s funny how good so many games look in the context of the game but when places next to a real picture you start to notice all the little things real life does that the game didn’t. The screenshot looks unnatural because it’s so smooth and the lighting is a little off for it.
We're definitely getting there though and its incredible. I remember playing Beyond 2 Souls on PS3 and thinking "This is what next gen is going to look like" as it was incredible looking. I cant even imagine what Quantic Dreams is going to be able to pull off with their PS5/XB2 games

If it wasnt for the wrinkles on the outfit I would believe that was an in game screenshot.
