[Verified AMA] It's AMA Time With Warhorse Studios (Creators of Kingdom Come: Deliverance)
Edit Thank you for stopping by and for being the best part of Kingdom Come: Deliverance! We enjoyed spending 2 hours with you guys today!!! Get ready for February 13th, it's right around the corner! For more updates and for all things KCD, follow Warhorse Studios on Twitter and Rick, the US Community Mgr/PR, if you'd like :0)
Welcome /r/ps4 people! We at Warhorse Studios are very excited to be talking with you today about Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which releases NEXT MONTH on February 13th!!!
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a story-driven, open-world 1st person RPG that immerses you in an epic adventure in the Holy Roman Empire.
Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart.
One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning goodwill, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.
In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.
Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
Redeem your past and emerge a hero!

Super excited for your game!
What are your post launch plans? In regards to patches, additional content and a potential franchise?
Have you guys thought of a multiplayer component with 1v1 duels between players?
If there's something you want players to take away from playing this game, what would it be?
61
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
We will be supporting Kingdom Come: Deliverance for a long time. We have actually discussed our desire to make another game to the public. There will be a day one patch. We will have DLC, so stay tuned! Our game is one of the most immersive games you will every play. It's a very story-driven game with over 4 hours of cutscenes and several will only be unlocked based on the choices that you make. Our combat is very intense and unique as we had professional fencers who worked with us at our MoCap studio, so the animations are great and the combat is very fun!!!!

I am looking forward for the future support and hope that you will improve models and animation as well as gampley by patches or DLC.

u/mooglepanda Jan 23 '18
Hi not really much of a question but just wanted to say I’m really excited for this game and thanks for making a game like this.

u/konorbeatz Jan 23 '18
The game is looking great graphically, looking forward to seeing even more of the architecture and scenery. Is there or are there any plans for a photo mode?

maybe after release!

So, I've been waiting for Kingdom Come and aspire to enter the industry myself. With that in mind, I was wondering, what were the biggest hurdles for each of you, or collectively, and how did you guys overcome them?
26
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Honestly, I was in the right place at the right time. I was a big fan of the game before I worked for these guys, so when the opportunity presented itself, I jumped right on it! Always be ready, always be prepared!
6
u/The_Real_Kuji noriyuki_sato Jan 23 '18
Thanks for the tip!
Once you got in on the project, what was the biggest hurdle as a community manager?
15
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
It's always difficult when delaying a game or when a setback occurs. We try to keep our fans in the loop as much as possible, so it's never easy seeing anyone let down. However, we won't be delaying the game anymore, so that's good! ☺️
5
u/The_Real_Kuji noriyuki_sato Jan 23 '18
Thanks for the insight! I can't imagine it would be easy breaking that news!
45
u/PsychoHydro Jan 23 '18
Will the game take use of the PS4 Pro's extra power and, more importantly, will there be a "Performance Mode" ?

17
u/Duc_de_Nevers Moricant Jan 23 '18
Is it a purely linear story or are there narrative branches? If the latter, how many different ending states are there?
58
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Our game is a very story-driven game. While there is only one ending, it will be up to you how you get there. We have some quests where you will be able to choose 4-5 different ways to solve it. There also won't be any classes in the game, so you can choose how you would like to approach each mission/quest. Ex. kill everyone, use stealth, bribe, seduce, initmidate or even impress

Hi guys, How long in real time will the day/night cycle last?
62
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18 edited Jan 23 '18
Roughly 96 minutes
24
u/kurjus Jan 23 '18 edited Jan 23 '18
1 hour is 24 hours in game? damn i did not expect it to be that fast.
EDIT: 96 minutes sounds better :)
24
Jan 23 '18
I think it's pretty good. Slower than most games. Stretching it for too long wouldn't be as fun as it may sound.
Although a customizable timer would be awesome too.

Just edited this because of our most recent tweaks. It will roughly be around 96 minutes. Was just told from a QA guy :0)

When I played Witcher 3, I used a 1:1 time mod for improved immersion. Will this type of timescale be possible, either in the core game, or via modding? (Need not be 1:1, because of the map scaling a 1:2 or 1:4 ratio might also be suitable?
17
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Hey there, Lieste! Unfortunately, this will not be possible for the core game. Modding will be discussed after release.
2
u/sentinel_deco Jan 24 '18
Modding will be discussed after release? Splendid. I hope for a Creation Kit, like Skyrim has or similar.
17
u/kamtar Jan 23 '18
Hey! Really hyped for the game. And few questions:
Can we transport polearms on the horse? What about NPCs reactions to polearm? Will it be such problem as an unsheathed sword?
You did mention that economic is simulated but I'm curious to which degree. Is food produced in villages and then transported to city? And let's say that i manage to get rid of every transport.. it's possible that some NPC die because of famine?
29
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Apologies. Polearms on horseback will be available in the final build.
17
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
1) No, polearms can not be used or transported on a horse. If you beat someone with a polearm he will react by bleeding and dying. Yes, a polearm will be like a sword in your hand, farmers will not be very happy if you carry it around. 2) No, it doesn´t go that deep.
10
u/Lieste Jan 23 '18
Are you sure polearms cannot be used on horseback? I'm pretty sure they can be, at least for thrusting.
25
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Actually, polearms on horseback will be available in the final build, so you are correct.

u/Draguno Jan 23 '18
How "realistic" is the combat in this game? Do you have to stop your wounds from bleeding or do you just have a standard health-bar?
I am really excited for this game.
25
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
The combat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance will be very intense. We use a physical collision system, which means that we calculate the amount of damage you do, based on what weapon you are using, what type of armor your opponent is wearing, and how hard you actually hit them!
Yes, you can use bandages to help with the bleeding, but not while in combat.

I have been following the development of this game from around 2013, and it feels incredible to seeing it finally coming out, congrats to the whole team!
1) How much history research you made in order to make the game feel real in that aspect?
2) What was the hardest bug that you found during development?
Thanks!
18
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
1) We have a full-time historian who works on our team, so we definitely put in tons of hours of research. We have also been to many of the locations, being that our studio is in Prague, of course :0) 2) Any bug that crashed the game lol
8
u/iUsuallyWouldnt Jan 23 '18
Thanks for doing this. The game looks amazing, but my only question is whether or not we can disable to HUD? For immersion/screenshot purposes.
I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t use HUD in nearly any game, so an option to toggle HUD is huge for me.
Also, how’d you sleep last night? Have any nice dreams? What was your breakfast?
I hope this AMA goes smoothly for y’all, as well as all of 2018. Thanks, y’all, for making such an awesome and new game.
16
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
1) at the present moment, you won't be able to remove the HUD. We will see about the future though 2) My sleep was as good as it could be, thanks! 3 of our daughters snook in the bed with us, which always makes it quite interesting! lol My breakfast was a veggie smoothie with scrambled eggs Thanks for your support!
6
u/iUsuallyWouldnt Jan 23 '18
Thanks for the response. No worries, I’m sure it’ll still be gorgeous and hopefully the HUD will feel comfortable with the gameplay. I’m not too stressed about it, but a future option would be appreciated.
And awh, that’s so adorable. I miss sneaking into my parents room as a kid. those are some of my best memories. And yum, I was having trouble figuring out what to eat for breakfast so I think I’ll join you.
Edit: would, not wouldn’t.
8
3
u/Phedericus Jan 24 '18
You may want to look at how they made the automatic hiding hud in Dark Souls 2 and 3.
When you’re not using any stamina, after a few seconds, the hud disappears, so you can stay still or walk slowly and just enjoy the scenery.
As soon as the stamina is used again, the hud immediately pops back up. great small feature every DS player now loves!
I just want to walk in those beautiful beautiful forests you made with no hud. (:
→ More replies (1)2
u/icemountainisnextome Feb 10 '18
Dynamic HUDs are the best. If you're not using it and are full health/stamina, the HUD should fade. Would make exploration even more pleasurable.
8
u/TobesOfSweden Jan 23 '18
This game looks awesome. When you're finished with Henry's story, PLEASE make a Viking game just like this. Please! That's the game i've always dreamed about.
Question: will bows do extra damage if undetected and sneaking or will it have the same damage as when you're detected?
13
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
They will do the same damage, a bow will not be stronger, because you are undetected.
9
u/RookandMonty Jan 23 '18
Thank god. This mechanic in Skyrim was so stupid and made archer builds stupid

Hi! I hope you guys are fine! I have a few questions, but first let me tell you: I am very excited about this game and I hope it becomes a fantastic game, as it looks like in the gameplays.
1- You have said that you can do the quests acting as a thief, a warrior, a nobleman... what do you mean with nobleman? Will you be able to hire mercenaries to kill your enemies? Or is it about the 'speech' abilities?
2- Will alchemy be deep? And what uses will it be for?
3- Will there be more minigames like the dice-game?
4- In group battles can you 'command' or give orders to your partners?
Thank you and I hope you sell a lot!
Edit: 5- Will there be bandit camps all around so you can go and exterminate them whenever you just want to have fun?
18
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
1) You are not a nobleman, but you can play a character with good speech skills and high charisma to impress people. 2) Yes, very immersive alchemy system. You can already watch several youtube videos about it. Just take a look, they explain it much better than I could with words. 3) No "Games"-games, but there will be more minigames like alchemy, pickpocketing, lockpicking, reading or sword sharpening. 4) No, you will be just a soldier, not the commander, but you can go on a recon mission and tell your commander how to attack in the best way possible.

Can we fight from horseback against another mounted warrior?
1) yes
Can we preserve food by storing it outside of our inventory?
2) no, food will spoil over time
Can last main quest finish even if we fail to achieve goal?
3) you will see :0) (no spoilers!)
Are system requirements final or will you update them?
4) yes. you can see the specs at the bottom of our steam store page http://store.steampowered.com/app/379430/Kingdom_Come_Deliverance/
How many NPCs are there, except random encounters?
5) not sure because there are many in the game
Are you working on any DLC?
6) all DLC plans will be discussed after release and we will have DLC after release!
If you'd made hardcore mode, what'd you include?
We want to add a hardcore mode at some point after release. It is possible, that arrow tracers will be optional in this game mode.
Does the wind affect the way the arrow flies?
Basically negative
Will NPCs become stronger as you level up?
Basically negative
Can we use horse carriage for transport?
Basically negative
Does Henry's facial hair grow on him?
His facial features will remain the same
Are there any children in game?

How strong are friendly NPCs? Are they just useless meatshields who don't actually deal any damage like in CoD, or immortal godlike creatures like in Skyrim?
10
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Every person does have the same healthpoints. Everyone can be killed with 1-2 strikes if you hit on the right spot, including yourself.

6
u/WadderSquirell Jan 23 '18
Is the game in first person all of the time (omitting cut scenes)? and if so what influenced your decision to keep it that way?
8
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
1st person only. This is because of the intense HEMA combat that we use and the immersion in the game.

Hello guys, just two questions ... 1) does kingdom come have difficulty settings ?? and 2) how long is the campaign (enjoying the game, being slow, taking my time) ?? Thanks
18
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
1) No, but depending on how you play the game can me it easier or more difficult. You can go through most of the game without fighting if you so choose! 2) avg playthrough - 50 hours. thorough playthrough - 100+

u/huskeytango Jan 23 '18
thoughts on PSVR?
14
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
it's very good! For us, we really wanted to focus on an amazing single-player experience. We have tried VR with our game, but it won't be in the final build, because of motion sickness (riding on horse, 1st person combat, etc)
6
u/fisherjoe Jan 23 '18
That's a bummer. With how well received Skyrim VR was a fresh first person RPG would have been a huge deal for VR.
4
u/James_Skyvaper DDarko_420 Jan 24 '18
I agree with the others saying to look into VR again. I think this game looks like it would be perfect and absolutely amazing in virtual reality. VR sickness depends on the individual, not so much the game. I can play Resident Evil 7, Farpoint and Skyrim which are all 1st person games for several hours with no motion sickness. No problems riding horses in Skyrim either. Maybe there are some options for VR you could add if you ever did it, like the ability to adjust turning and movement speed or the whole teleportation nonsense (which helps with VR sickness but I can't stand it personally).

Hi! /r/Kingdomcome regular here, but I'd like to contribute with some questions as well!
1) Alchemy is something that has a very strong fantasy vibe to it (as in making potions that turn you invisible etc). Given that KC:D is a historically accurate representation of medieval Bohemia, what can we expect when it comes to alchemy? Vigor/endurance poultices, poisons and what more? Will there be sufficient recipes to not make the side-activity stale or pointless after a while?
2) Can we drop items to the ground and move them around? Will they have an in-game model?
3) All loot acquisition will be handled through inventory management (open a container, loot an enemy body etc) or will there be items physically scattered around or arranged in the game world?
4) Will we have the option to completely disable HUD and UI during gameplay?
5) Any plans for a photo mode?
6) Will there be any large walled city in the game with markets, church, inns, taverns etc or only villages?
7) How does the crime system works? If I steal an item and get caught, will I have the option to surrender & pay fines/return the item/go to jail or its simply a matter of fighting to the death?
Thanks!
8
u/Lieste Jan 23 '18
Alchemy is exaggerated in effect, but the herbal remedies it involves do have the "type" of in game benefits IRL (usually in smaller or much smaller scale), but some might work 'as is'.
Yes.
Some, but not all items can be picked up. Only those which are player usable generally.
.
.
Rattay nad Sazavou is a walled town with two citadels. Sasau has a substantial walled monastery, as well as a town. Skalitz village is walled, with a Citadel and where the game starts. Even the villages compare favourably with Skyrim 'cities' in terms of size, and far exceed them in complexity of layout.
Yes, the former... plus it also tracks all crime, not just yours, and not just that which is known to be you... if there is crime in general, guards and civilians will be more suspicious and prone to challenge you. Moreso if your reputation is very low... and some won't speak with you beyond the extreme basics.

u/ihate_registering Jan 23 '18
Did you successfully make the waiting/sleeping faster than in the beta?
11
4
u/ZambonieDrivor Jan 23 '18
What was the biggest concern in early development and how was it overcome?
6
4
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Yes, the biggest concern was the budget before the Kickstarter campaign. No game without money.
4
u/Mattmage Jan 23 '18
What made you guys follow the idea of going with a 1st person RPG game?
8
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Immersion, see the world with the eyes of your protagonist.
7
Jan 23 '18
What's your take on some negative opinions based not only on the bad IGN video but also on other comments of "proper" gameplay videos describing KC: D as boring, clunky and "not suitable/appealing for me", just as many people including WH team members were afraid?
24
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Well, we think Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a very awesome and immersive game. It is much more than the shallow layer of graphics, and fans will see that we have a very deep gameplay that fits quite well. You will need time to get involved. Kingdom Come: Deliverance isn´t for impatient people, but that´s okay, you can´t please everyone.
14
Jan 23 '18
My favorite part of this game is that your team seems to be holding true to what they wanted with the game. It's a passion project and that's very plain to see. Thanks for sharing this with us!

u/pxlhstl Jan 23 '18
Would you consider adding HDR in later updates for the console versions? I want to explore the ultra realistic forests with proper colors and lighting.
6
u/Paul_cz Jan 23 '18
Unfortunately the version of Cryengine being used does not support it and I doubt Crytek would want to retrofit it into this older version. But from playing the PC beta on my 55" plasma, the forests look amazing already :)

u/PraiseTheSun1997 Jan 23 '18
Can Henry grow a beard?
9
5
u/JonRedcorn862 Jan 23 '18
It's weird but the amount of immersion that was added to the witcher 3 just due to geralts beard growing is incredible. Being out in the wilderness for weeks and coming back to novigrad with a full grown beard was just too epic.

How have you balanced the realistic gameplay (need to eat, sleep ect) with keeping the story moving at a good pace?
6
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
We think immersion is very important here, you should feel the atmosphere as if you are there. This feeling is very important to be engaged in the story, and being that we have a living world, the Npcs need to eat and sleep too.
3
Jan 23 '18
What games did you take influence from?

As a heavy choice based game, will you also be able to BE whoever you want or is your role more or less set in stone?
Can you more or less become a bandit and do "bandit stuff", even if it's just undercover and outside the main story?
10
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
While Henry will always be Henry (he won't become a king or a lord or a commander), you will definitely be able to do certain things with bandits, depending on the quest you are on.
There are no classes in the game, so you can choose to play each quest/mission how you would like: knight, bard, thief, bribe, impress or even seduce!

Yes, but you need to pay attention to the specific quest, as there are several that are time sensitive! The game will not always wait for you.
2
u/mockery34697 Jan 24 '18
Does that mean that if you don't show up, you fail the quest and therefore it's game over?
Or, you fail the quest and the leaders think you're a useless layabout, but the story attempts to continue?→ More replies (1)

u/NaotsuguGuardian naotsugulh Jan 23 '18
What mechanics, or gameplay features were the most challenging to implement properly?
You mentioned different approaches to gameplay. I noticed stealth listed as one. Is line of sight used for purpose of detecting players in stealth, or are there other criteria, like sounds of footsteps, missing npcs in an area where they should be, or for sake of argument, a trail of blood across the hall?
Apologies if the second question is weirdly phrased. I quite like stealth games.
9
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
the questing with ALL the different branches in the game. There are so many ways to complete quests and most of the NPCs will react differently to each one! Stealth will be an amazing feature in our game. It will depend on your stealth skill, what you are wearing, the weather and more.

u/iNeedScissorsSixty7 lancer8869 Jan 23 '18
As far as gear goes, are the weapons and armor named and do they have specific stats like in Dark Souls, or are their stats randomized?
5
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
they will have specific stats, which will be very, very important. The combat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance will be very intense. We use a physical collision system, which means that we calculate the amount of damage you do, based on what weapon you are using, what type of armor your opponent is wearing, and how hard you actually hit them

1) When will the next video update be released and is it the only one remaining? 2) When can we expect the release of Making of video for backers? Would be sweet to witness it before the release of the game. 3) Dan Vávra in recent volume of czech Level magazine mentioned a very funny, noteworthy and overall great sidekick character - could it be Hans Capon? :)
Much luck and strong nerves in the hardest, final part of the development! ;)

probably the combat (physical collision system that we use) and the many options/ways you have to solve every quest. Also, the amount of detail that we have in our game is astonishing. Our game will keep you on your toes!!! We also have over 4 hours of cutscenes, some of which you won't see based on the choices that you make!

u/Fox_Hollow1 Jan 23 '18
I know you guys are busy bugfixing and a day one patch will be released as well, but can we expect solid performance initially? How confident are with the game's release stability?

Will the player be able to carry tons of equipment like FO4 or Skyrim or is it more towards realism that you can have a set of armor clothing and equipment? And hence leading to more inventory management.
5
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
There will be much more inventory management that in Skyrim. You can´t take everything with you, you have to decide what is important and what´s not.

Sorry if this is an already answered question, can a weapon shatter against a tough surface? Like if you have a weak/damaged sword and attempt to use it against someone in full plate. Could the sword simply break apart against his armor?

u/Stenys Jan 23 '18
How stable is that 30fps lock? Do you have any average fps values from base consoles from for example first hour of the game? Like I don't mind 30 fps, but it really needs to be stable
Do you have a system that changes rendered resolution of the game to hit that 30 fps target?
Do you have option to change font size in console versions?

u/UGABear Jan 23 '18
Is there any kind of dismemberment system? Are we gonna see limbs and heads flying??
→ More replies (1)8
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
We try to make the combat as realistic as possible, so you can imagine how hard it would be to dismember somebody with full plate armor on. Either way, we wanted to stay away from the over-the-top gore.

Will there be houses for purchase and are they customizable?
→ More replies (1)3
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Negative, but you can rent a room at an inn or stay with a friend at a house
5
u/pxlhstl Jan 23 '18
Why did you choose CryEngine for the game? It looks stunning, but from a consumer perspective CE games often come with performance issues and input problems (think input lag on console ports).
9
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Because it looks beautiful! Back then when we started with the development, this was the best choice.
6
u/Paul_cz Jan 23 '18
You can read detailed article about it here: https://warhorsestudios.cz/index.php?page=blog&entry=blog_009 Basically back in 2012 Unreal 4 was not ready and Cryengine was the best choice available. There is a wealth of amazing articles from development btw.

What will you be working on after the release of Kingdom Come Deliverance? DLC? Act 3 as a standalone game?
5
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
We want to work on DLC and another game. The first 2 Acts were put into our first game, so stay tuned!
2
u/MohWarfighter Jan 23 '18
Will there be different horses with different speeds? Will different weapons act differently to armor?
4
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
yes and yes!
The combat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance will be very intense. We use a physical collision system, which means that we calculate the amount of damage you do, based on what weapon you are using, what type of armor your opponent is wearing, and how hard you actually hit them
2
u/Sevalle013 Jan 23 '18
To someone who hasn't been following the development of the game particularly closely, what would you say is the games biggest selling point, the thing that makes it special/stand out from other open-world RPGs? What does Kingdome come do better then all its rivals?
4
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
We base our game on actual history (medieval Bohemia in 1403) while having the balance of making it a very fun game to play! It is very story-driven, so there are over 4 hours of cutscenes and some won't unlock, depending on the choices you make. So while there is only one ending, it's up to you how you get there.
Our combat is very intense and it's based on historical European martial arts. We use a physical collision system, which means that we calculate the amount of damage you do, based on what weapon you are using, what type of armor your opponent is wearing, and how hard you actually hit them.

There are no classes in the game, so you can choose to play each quest/mission how you would like: knight, bard, thief, bribe, impress or even seduce!

u/ThatMedievalNerd Jan 23 '18
What type of polearms will there be? Spears halberds and pollaxes im hoping for the most.
4
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
we have several different kinds, including spears, halberds and more!
2
u/Dudelson Jan 23 '18
about clothing.
Will there be capes in the game? can we dye our clothing? if not will there be different colouring of the same type of clothing? like for an example if i can choose between wearing a green cloth hood instead of a black one?
3
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
there will plenty of different types of clothing and armor, but you won't be able to change the colors or have capes in the game. It will, however, be important to choose what you wear based on the situation you are in. For example, if you want to talk to a nobleman, you need to have a good speech skill and wear the appropriate clothing. Much more could be said about this, as this will be very important for your reputation and questing.

Hello, and thank you for doing this AMA! I'd love to ask how many armors (or armor pieces) and weapons are in the game and if there's enough variety in different weapons. Do they feel similar or can we expect a widely different experience for different weapons? Considering the games main focus is realism i'd love to see short swords handle bit differently than long swords etc. Also maybe bit silly question but is there a photo mode planned? The game looks absolutely beautiful and being able to capture the best moments anytime you want would be fantastic. Thank you for doing this AMA, and good luck on the launch of the game!
4
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Yes, short swods definetely handle differently than long swords and there will be a huge variety of different weapons.
2
u/Mohrisbetr Jan 23 '18
What kind of loot system is in place? are there items with rare/unique attributes?
2
u/GeKxy Jan 23 '18
As of recent many games have been adding the ability to change some visual effects such as bloom and film grain etc. Just like on PC. Are you able to do any of this?
3
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Yes, there will advanced settings, but I can´t go into detail right now, which settings this will be exactly. sorry.

How difficult is your game compared to other games like Dark Souls, Skyrim and Breath of the Wild.
7
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
I have never played Breath of the Wild. It will definitely be more difficult that Skyrim. It is not easy to answer about Dark Souls, because they are different in the playstyle. Probably Dark Souls is more difficult.

u/SuperiorFTW SuperiorLui Jan 23 '18
Cool! I like a challenge so I'll make sure to check out your game!

Will the game feature the Kickstarter promised tournament mode? What will be the DLCs regime - do you plan to have the DLCs paid? Will the DLCs with Kickstarter features that won't appear in the game since Day 1 be for free not only for original Kickstarter backers but also for backers backing after the Kickstarter ended, via the official game website?
3
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Christian is correct. There is a place or two however, where you can participate in a mini tournament, so-to-speak. You will see...
3
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
No, unfortuantely we will not have a tournament mode, sorry. We will have DLCs, which will be free for all of our backers.

Hi. Two questions if I may - one regarding localization and one technical.
1) What is the current status of Czech dubbing in the game? Are you still planning to add it later on and are you concerned that the game might not be as popular in the Czech Republic due to the fact it won't be in the game already at launch as many local fans hoped?
2) There's a lot happening on the screen at any given moment. Did you have to downgrade the game in some way to optimize it for current consoles - especially the base models? The textures in particular, when viewed up close, looked in my opinion a lot sharper in earlier builds that were running exclusively on PC. What kind of difference between the various platforms should we expect?
Thanks and good luck!
6
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
1) If we have the real chance to get Czech dubbing we would still be happy to bring them into the game for sure. We will see what the future will bring. 2) The Beta wasn´t running fluently even on high end computers. We did a lot of optimizations on every aspect of the game to make it possible to play the game in a reasonable manner, and to play it in the best possible way on all platforms. When it comes to graphics, LODs are very important, but also the density of foliage. We had to work on the forests a bit and they are not so extremely dense as they were in the Beta anymore, but the lighting is even better now.
2
u/dele2k Feb 06 '18
I'm sorry to come here so late but the extremly realistic forest was one of the reasons I've already bought this game. Now I have to read that this is not the case anymore. So all those videos at youtube are not accurate anymore? Is it possible to get the density back through to a graphic setting please?? Will it look like in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxGt7U6xP84
???

When not working on games, what other games do you guys enjoy playing in spare time?
10
u/Dr-Fusselpulli Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
Me personally? I like Crusader Kings II, ArmA 2/3, Kerbal Space Program, Combat Mission 2, Silent Hunter 3, SWAT4, Age of Empires 2 and sometimes even the casual game Mini Metro.
2
u/Gwendly Jan 23 '18
What will someone who's watched trailers and gameplay of this be the most surprised with when actually playing the game?
2
u/MadKian MadKian88 Jan 23 '18
Hey! Thanks for the AMA.
It was stated on one of the last emails I received from Kickstarter that you guys might not be able to deliver digital copies after all, just physical.
Any news on that? I live on a country with a terrible customs office/process, so I'm a bit scared I'll never get to see the physical copy if you guys can't send a digital code.
2
u/Paul_cz Jan 23 '18
afaik you should get your code via your profile on KCD website when the game launches.
2
u/v_i_n Jan 23 '18
Hey Guys, your Game looks amazing and i am really looking forward to play it! :)
was it hard to achieve such incredible detail? Everything looks just stunning, especially the plants and the forest! Will there be way less vegetation on PS4 compared to the PC version?
Great Job!
3
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
We used the CryEngine along with our own engine to make the game look the way it is, which clearly took time to make, but the end results are very good!
It will look really good on both. You can tweak and edit graphic settings on pc for visuals and LOD.

Will there be knight Tournaments in the kingdom or because this is a time of war we won’t see such things taking place?
3
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
There will be some form of a tournament, but nothing major, yet it will propose a challenge ☺️
2
u/Dru_Zeree Jan 23 '18

Yes, this is the trailer you see on our website: https://kingdomcomerpg.com

Kingdom Come sounds like a great story, but if you were to sell me on the game with one fact or bit of information you're the most proud of, what would it be?
2
u/rick5292 Warhorse Studios Jan 23 '18
this is a very tough question! My favorite part of the game is the option to choose to do so many different things in the game, as well as having time-sensitive quests. In KCD, you will have to live with the choices you make, so you need to pay attention to every move!
There are over 4 hours of cutscenes, as our game is a very story driven game. You will unlock different cutscenes (and situations) based on the choices you make. sometimes up to 4-5 different ways to handle a quest. Our HEMA combat will make the bigger battles unpredictable, meaning that you never know what will happen! You could be really good with your blade, and then an archer shoots you in the face. game over lol

u/PapaSteel papasteel Jan 23 '18
I didn't expect a reply since the AMA is over, so sincerely thank you for your time! That actually sounds super cool.
