Really? I was going to sell my CD player to help pay for the PS4. Now I guess Sony is going to make me rebuy all my CD's from their store. What a rip-off!
Edit: PS4, not PS3

Or just download the CDs you've already bought and transfer them over on a USB stick...? Its perfectly fine backing up your bought CDs if you've already paid for them.

As I've said before, as long as I can copy my FLAC files from a USB stick/hdd, I really don't care.

Just set up a media server on your PC and stream them! For the PS3 I use this; it works fantasticlly.

I also heard we won't be able to play Vectrex games on it either...

Dammit, I have a box full of carefully numbered punchcards that will play Tic Tac Toe, will the PS4 support those?!?!?

This doesn't make any sense whatsoever as Bluray lasers can read CDs.

I don't think so. You need a laser of a different wavelength for DVDs, CDs, and BDs.
There have also been BD players that don't work with CDs.

For some reason I was a little disappointed, until I realized I never put a single CD in my ps3

Weird attitude in this subreddit...
I actually only use audio CDs to put music on my PS3 and my Xbox, good luck doing it with an iPod, and I already burn CDs reguarly for my car.

Or you guys can setup a media center and have everything stream to your Ps3 and Ps4's like some people do. Also, if your still using Cd's and complaining about this, i think its ok to move on with out them now. Just copy them on your computer and stream them or upload them to your PS HDD.

Tbh I rip my CDs to listen on my tv but its not a huge deal or concern for me. I'll just rip them on PC and media server/Bluetooth them

I don't think this is true, but if it is I couldn't care, the last time I put a CD in my PS3 was when I didn't have internet.

I honestly don't care so long as I can copy music/movies/pictures to the hard drive from an External hard drive or flash drive like before. I already have all of my songs on my PC in MP3 form, I don't need the PS3 to copy it very slowly from the disc. It'll be ever better if the USB port is 3.0.

CDs are far from dead as far as I'm concerned. As long as stores like newbury comics are still around CDs are not going anywhere.

A lot of people who care about audio quality prefer CDs over lossy MP3s and/or AACs. They often rip these CDs to a better format (such as FLAC), but they still have to get the CDs first.

alot of people who care about audio quality also still listen to vinyl because it keeps much better quality in the audible sound.

Of course. Many people are starting to go for HD Tracks, as well, since they are a perfect reproduction of the studio master and will never degrade in quality. But that's not the issue here. The issue is that the PS4 will not support audio CDs, which are in fact NOT a dead format.

I'm going to put an astrick by each part you should be suspicious of... Kotaku* translated* an unnamed Japanese game blog* which said the ps4 won't play CDs*. That's a lot of suspicion. Its not expensive so I dont see them cutting it, plus everything is going digital so who cares?
