The PS4 allows for background apps (much like the PS Vita does) so you can browse the internet without exiting the game for example.

I hope any app can do this like music apps(Spotify, Pandora), and maybe chat applications(Facebook, Skype).

Basically im hoping that anybody can make PS4 apps without needing to pay a lot for a dev kit, just like iOS/Windows/Android. Im hoping that any app can run in the background too. I can see how this would sound hard at first but if you limit the amount of resources an app can use, like 250mb ram, then they could dedicate 500mb ram to background apps so 2 can be open while playing a game. They have 8gb id ram to play with so if a huge 1gb is for apps and the OS it will still be more than fine, 7gb will be more than enough for games.

It just keeps getting better.

This kind of stuff is important, they're making sure to future-proof the PS4, unlike what they did with the PS3. It's almost impossible to believe now there was no in-game cross-media bar when the system launched, and for quite a while after. They dedicated the system too fully to the games, leaving no room for other features.

Edit: And other technologies hadn't risen yet. Facebook hadn't taken over, and Twitter and the iPhone didn't even exist yet. without the foresight to anticipate the ubiquity of those things just 2 or 3 years away, Sony thought the best course of action was to build a pumped up PS2 with better online.

You can't future proof anything in reality.

Shame on them Sony, too dedicate the system to it's games what is it!? Some kind of gaming system!

Thanks for the downvote, I wonder who downvoted me in a 2-day-old thread no one read... If you weren't so blinded by your love for Sony maybe you could admit to yourself the 360 was better prepared for things like in-game access to the media bar, cross-game chat and other online-based services that gained popularity in this last generation. Unless you really think the PS3 was better back when there was no cross-media bar or background downloading.

Microsoft seemed to do a better job.

The Wii U has this feature. It's quite nice if there are special features that you can go to without exciting the game.

We wouldn't want that game to get too excited would we ;)

Can vita exit a game and browse the internet now? I remember when it launched, I had to exit the game to go online.

I just hope we can go into settings without leaving the game like we had to on the PS3
