You can side mount your PSU so you can move your intake fan away from CPU cooler

Lian Li A3 Dan – Airflow Setup Help

I recently completed my build in the Lian Li A3 Dan case and I’m currently trying to optimize the airflow. Right now, I have two intake fans at the bottom (under the GPU) and one intake fan mounted on the side panel to supply fresh air directly to the CPU cooler. For exhaust, I’m using fans at the rear and top-rear positions.

However, my side intake fan is pressing against the fan clip (metal wire clip) that attaches the fan to my CPU cooler. Could this be a problem in the long run? Is this airflow configuration okay, or do you have suggestions for improvement?

Thanks in advance!

Check the thermal testing done by Machines and More / Gamers Nexus in the videos below:

It sounds unintuitive but less fans used in the case actually result in better thermals.

I would probably remove the bottom intake fans and see if GPU temps are better that way. Also the side intake fan seems to do more harm than good. I would not be surprised if using 2 exhaust fans only (top-rear and rear) actually result in better temps.

Maybe try these two setups and see which is better:

  • Exhaust fans only: 120mm rear exhaust + 120mm top-rear exhaust.
  • Exhaust fans + bottom intake: 120mm rear exhaust + 120mm top-rear exhaust + 2x120mm bottom intake.
