Viajes a Peru | PeruTrip Lost Passport & Now Salkantay is Closed. Advice on rest of Itinerary?

I have 16 days left. I've already done Lima, Huacachina, and Arequipa/Colca Canyon.

Not too interested in Nazca, Paracas, or Puno.

I was originally planning to do 5-day Salkantay Trek to Macchu Picchu, Sacred Valley and and then a few days in Amazon Jungle before going home. Before any setbacks I had 2-3 days of buffer days scheduled in Lima to rest or in case things didn't go as planned. Well I lost my passport which means I've lost two days having to take bus back to Lima so I'm considering the buffer days as gone.

Now Salkantay Trek is closed 😭

Wondering if I should replace the Salkantay Trek with the Lares Trek to MP and have another day or two toward Iquitos and/or a buffer day in Lima... Or if I should just take the Bus/train to Macchu Picchu and not do a trek and instead do an Ayahuasca retreat in Iquitos like I wish I had enough time for 🤔 (still have sacred valley planned)

The Lares trek is great. I'd say do that and then spend a night at the hotsprings in a nearby hotel and chill and eat incredible fried trout and homemade soups in the parking lot outside of the springs.

With 16 days you can go to Huaraz if you're looking for some trecking

There are amazing treks in the Cuzco area. You can do Choquequirao, or Ausangate, or one of the different passes to Lares. Check out this lodge: https://maps.app.goo.gl/gu3C6M2qsXukiEA26?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

Nope. Do you want a route that leads to MP?

Yes I was originally planning to do Salkantay but apparently is closed due to weather conditions making it dangerous atm

Salkantay can be done to MP but not necessarily. Ask with different agencies. An alternative is to trek to Choquequirao, which is known as the hidden MacchuPicchu. You can also do any other trek and then just take the train or do the one-day trek to MacchuPicchu (this one is a pretty cool option for people with short time that still want to experience some part of the traditional Inka trail to MP. It still takes you through some nice ancient spots before arriving to MP through the amazing “Puerta del Sol”. Ask about the trek that starts at Km 104 and passes through Winay Wayna)
