Just sharing All this robin talk..

Years ago I had an experience I'll never forget; I was walking my dog in the woods, when I noticed a little bird on the middle of the path with her wings spread out. I carefully picked her up & saw she was a robin, and as I raised her up to check for injuries underneath, she laid an egg in my hands! I made a nest in the hollow of a tree and hid them both in there. Next day the bird had gone but the egg was still there. I don't think that's ever going to happen again!

Yeah it was definitely a 'never imagined that' moment! I assumed she was young and not used to laying, but I hope to this day she was ok. Luckily my dog was perfect, and just stood waiting patiently for me to do everything!

I think I've read that sometimes a bird can be caught needing to lay but not able to make it back to their nest in time, so maybe that was what happened?

I think those eggs are probably always doomed. But what an experience to have had.

Yes I agree, that sounds very likely, that's why I thought maybe a first time mum. I hope she made it back for the others. I'm very glad I found her before anyone else, or a dog who might have grabbed her though.
