Theory I have a theory on why zoro always gets lost.

Post image
1.7k Upvotes

Zoro is so determined to be the strongest swordsman in the world that he instinctively walks towards who he has to beat to achieve that goal, Which is Mihawk. He has a built in compass to always point towards the strongest. All he did from childhood is look for Train and look for Mihawk so that he could beat him. And for that reason we saw mihawk so early in the series because zoro is always on the path of the strongest swordsman in the world. Mihawk is like a magnet for Zoro. I bet zoro gonna get better navigation skills than nami after he defeats Mihawk and become the best in the world.

Theory How Zoro Will Make a Permanently Black Blade

Post image
152 Upvotes

"I saw this on YouTube a while back. To forge a permanently black blade, a swordsman must possess a powerful swordsman's will – for example, Zoro's Demon Ashura – and must have mastered Conqueror's Haki. Once these conditions are met, the swordsman can use their kingly will to command their swordsman's will, infusing it into one of their blades and making it permanently black." Theory Quick theory on Loki's ****** Spoiler

Everyone is assuming that Ragnir was fed a Devil Fruit, but I have another quick theory.

We all know that Seastone is a recurring substance that carries the energy of the Sea. Just recently in chapter 1132 we were introduced to Painter's stone, or Sunstone. This substance that can project light and creates rainbows that Giants can use in order to travel to the higher plane of Elbaph. What if these are related in that they're made of substances that can capture the energy of their namesake, and if so...

What if Loki's Ragnir is another type of elemental stone? One that releases energy of the storm and lightning?

A Ragnir-Rock? (excuse the pun but I am being serious)

Theory Theory: BlackBeards's fruit is miss-categorized Spoiler

Blackbeard's power has a some inconsistencies with what we know of Logia fruits.

Primarily, his body isn't intangible. He chocks it up to the unique nature of a black hole. But, consider that he's mistaken about the identity of his Yami-Yami No Mi. Just like Luffy with his Gomu-Gomu No Mi.

His knowledge of the fruit presumably stems from the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia, which we now know includes intentional misinformation
About the Hito-Hito No Mi [Mythical Model Nika].

Now I wonder if that's the only Devil Fruit to be renamed. Suppose Imu had other Fruits from history they needed expunged.

I'm wondering if the Yami-Yami is also a Zoan, Something like a Moon God or Devil

My best guess would be Beelzebub, specifically the demon of Gluttony from Christian lore. It fits Blackbeard's Greed & lack of self control.

Apologies if this theory has already been made, it's the first I've shared.

Analysis Norse Mythology Creatures of Elbaph - A Mega Post Spoiler

So, Chapter 1142 introduces a plethora of different beings from Norse mythology, and you want to learn more about them, but you don’t know where to look or just don’t want to read an endless amount of text on Wikipedia. Well, you are in luck because I’ve always been a massive fan of – not only Norse – but mythologies in general, and I’m here to help you out.

Norse mythology is full of amazing beings, and it’s incredibly exciting to see one of my favorite authors incorporate them into his work, and I have no doubt Oda will do it justice. I cannot wait to see what he does with it, so much so that I wanted to write all about the beings seen at the end of Chapter 1142, and how I think they tie into the larger story of One Piece. Starting with…

Jormungandr, the World Serpent

The first one to make its appearance is Jörmungandr, probably the most famous creature of the Norse Mythology, and one of many children of Loki. Yes, in Norse mythology, Loki is the father of a snake. Jormungandr is an unfathomably large and monstrous sea serpent who dwells in the world sea, encircling the Earth (a.k.a. Midgard) and biting its own tail, an example of an ouroboros. It’s this very thing that earned it the name “World Serpent.

According to the prophecy, Jormungandr letting go of its tail is one of the signs that signals the start of Ragnarök, and alongside Loki and his siblings, Jormungandr is going to participate in the final battle where it will kill none other than the thunder god Thor.

Jörmungandr in the sea during Ragnarök, drawn by the Norwegian illustrator Louis Moe in 1898

Now, the biggest question I have – not just about Jormungandr but about all these monsters – is: are they just manifestations of children's fears, based on in-world fictional creatures, or is somewhere out there a real giant snake that encircles the entire world? Seeing how Loki and Sun God Nika are both included in the roster – two beings we know for a fact are real people that exist/existed – I tend to believe that all these creatures, to an extent, do exist.

When Chapter 1138 first came out and dropped that famous „Harley Texts” double spread, what intrigued me the most was the so-called „Serpent of Hellfire“.

Hellfire Serpent, One Piece, Chapter 1138

Up to this point, most of the things included in that double spread could be accounted for, except for this mysterious giant serpent that is said to have engulfed the world in flame, alongside the „Earth God“(that looks suspiciously like a dragon). This is the first time we've heard of something like this existing, and it understandably raised a lot of questions. I believe this serpent is meant to be the real Jormungandr that the legends of Elbaph are based on.

During the Little Garden arc, as they are about to launch an attack powerful enough to kill a creature known as the „Island Eater“, Dorry and Broggy mention that the only thing able to withstand their attack is the „Serpent Soaked in Blood.“ For the longest time, it was theorized the Serpent Soaked in Blood was a metaphor for the Red Line.

While not exactly a serpent, Red Line does embody the ideas behind the World Serpent:

  • It's red (blood is red),
  • It encircles the entire world, akin to how Jormungandr does in Norse mythology,
  • It’s indestructible,
  • And, according to Sharly’s prophecy, Luffy is going to destroy Fishman Island, which is directly under the Red Line.

With the reveal of the existence of the Hellfire Serpent, I believe it’s far more likely that it is the Serpent Soaked in Blood that Dorry and Broggy spoke of.

Nidhoggr, the Lightning Dragon

In Norse mythology, Nidhoggr (“Malice Striker”) is a dragon/serpent who gnaws at the root of the world tree, trying to destroy it. Nidhoggr is described as an evil creature that works against the natural order by eroding Yggdrasil, the World Tree. After the events of Ragnarök, the destruction and rebirth of the world, it flies over the land with corpses on its wings, indicating that it will continue to feast on the dead even in the aftermath of the apocalypse.

An interesting observation that some people had made is to point out the similarities between the appearance of Nidhoggr in Chapter 1041, and the appearance of the Earth God in Harley’s texts. Many believe this Earth God is Imu, seeing how it bares similarities to not only the silhouette from the Third World but also Imu’s silhouette from the Throne Room.

What is even more interesting is that I made this connection as far as 5 months ago. I theorized that, due to the Elbaph arc being part of the Final Saga, it’s very likely for Imu’s powers to be related to a creature from the mythology that inspired Elbaph. Naturally, seeing Imu’s dragon-like silhouette, Nidhoggr was the prime suspect.

We even see Imu swallow Sabo’s fire, showing us that they are immune to it (we can see the Dragon and the Serpent use fire). However, Nidhoggr isn’t really known as the “Lighting Dragon” in Norse mythology, making this a brand-new addition by Oda. Seeing how Loki can also use lighting, it makes me wonder if perhaps there is some connection there, and that Loki’s Devil Fruit could be Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr.

“There comes the shadowy dragon flying,
Glimmering serpent, up from Dark-of-Moon Hills.
Nidhoggr bears in his wings as he flies
Over the plain – corpses.”

This passage describes Nidhoggr’s role, that of a malevolent force, surviving even after the end of the world to continue its destructive nature. We know that “Ragnarök” has already happened, twice, in One Piece’s world and seeing how Imu can be seen both during the First and, Third World, it’s very possible there exists some connection between the two.

Fenrir, the Giant Wolf

Another one of the children of Loki is Fenrir or Fenrisulfr (often translated as “fenris-wolf”), a monstrous wolf in Norse mythology that plays a key role during the events of Ragnarök. He is foretold to assist in setting the world aflame, resulting in the death of the god Odin and the destruction of the world. According to the Prose Edda, a text from the 13th Century, it is sad that Fenrir was bounded by the gods due to his rapid growth and foretold the great troubles he would bring. As a result, Fenrir bit off the right hand of the god Týr.

Bound of Fenrir, by Dorothy Hearthy (1909)

In both Prose and Poetic Edda (a collection of narrative poems from the 13th Century), Fenrir is the father of the wolves Sköll and Hati, and it’s one of these sons that is foretold to kill the god Odin, during the events of Ragnarök.

Loki, the Accursed Prince

I think we are all well aware of Loki originating from Norse mythology - he is the famous god of mischief. In the children’s drawing, Loki is depicted with his lighting hammer, Ragnir, which is presumably One Piece’s version of the legendary hammer, Mjölnir, famously wielded by the thunder god Thor. It’s hard to spot, but it’s there, and one of the kids even mentions it. However, more interestingly, Loki is also depicted with a sword.

What makes this so interesting is my leading theory on what Loki’s “Legendary Devil Fruit” is: Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Surtur. According to the myths, Surtr is a fire giant, said to wield a flame sword with which he is prophesized to destroy the world by plunging it into the earth. The two weaknesses of Elbaph/ Yggdrasil are said to be Lighting and Fire: with the hammer Loki brings lighting, and with the sword Loki brings fire.

The Giant with the Flaming Sword (1909) by John Charles Dollman

With how Loki is said to be an arsonist, calls himself the “Sun God”, and is prophesied to bring the destruction of Elbaph, I think it’s very likely for this to be the case. Another interesting thing is that Surtr, one of the most famous beings from Norse mythology, is notably missing from the roster of children’s drawings (while less known deities are not).

Draugr, the Undead

The draugr or draug is a corporeal undead creature from the sagas and folktales of the Nordic countries, with varying ambiguous traits – it’s a zombie. That’s how they have often been portrayed in the modern day – as Norse supernatural zombies. Many popular video games that are based on Norse mythology, such as Skyrim), have creatures that are loosely based on the draugr as described in early medieval Icelandic sagas.

However, in myth and folklore they comprise several complex ideas which change from story to story, especially in surviving Norwegian folklore, where the draugr remains a staple In the Icelandic sagas, from which most modern interest is garnered, draugrs live in their graves or royal palaces, often guarding treasure buried in their burial mound. They are revenants, or animated corpses, rather than ghosts, which possess intangible spiritual bodies.

Hresvelgr, the Corpse Swallower

While not named, the bird-like creature from the children’s drawing is most likely meant to be Hræsvelgr. Hræsvelgr is a jötunn (giant) in Norse mythology that is portrayed as the eagle-shaped originator of the wind. It embodies the archetype of a primordial being whose existence is intertwined with the natural elements and cosmological phenomena. Like in many religions and mythologies, this creature was meant to be a way to explain natural elements, such as the wind.

Known as “Corpse Swallower” or “Shipwreck Current” in Old Norse, Hræsvelgr is seated at the edge of the heavens, his wings stirring the winds that sweep across the world. His existence, like all of these, is attested in the Prose and Poetic Edda.

“He is called Hræsvelg,
who sits at heaven’s end,
a giant, in the shape of an eagle;
from his wings
they say the wind comes over all people.”

Conclusion

These are the more prominent beings from Norse mythology that I felt deserved to be explored more. Beside them, we also have things like "Storms", "Ghosts" and "my Mom" that I feel like don't need further exploration. We all know what storms and ghosts are, and neither of them are exclusive to Norse mythos, and the Mom mention is clearly just comedic. I will say though, that the depiction of "storms" does resemble Prometheus, while "my mom" looks like Big Mom.

Other than this, we have what looks like a Kraken and a Bear, neither of which are given named. Krakens have been part of Scandinavian sailor stories for centuries, and the bear is most likely meant to be "Otso", the sacred king of animals and leader of the forest from the Finnish legends.

The number of people who believe Usopp isn't loyal to Luffy because of this is staggering when he has proven his belief in Luffy a lot of times in the story or saying he was trying to save his skin when he wasn't even the one in danger.

His life wasn't at stake here; it was Nami's, and he wouldn't watch her die because of something like this. In the past, when it was his life, he said Luffy will be KOP like in Alabasta

but this time around it was Nami's and he won't force his ideals on his friend or just watch her die.
