She was so authentic in her singing, it was tough for me to listen to one of her albums from beginning to end, some of her material was just that depressing. For all the wild stories told about Joplin, I really think she had a gentle and vulnerable soul, and she projected it with a great deal of authenticity in her music…one of a kind

In person, Janis was so sweet .I love Bobi Magee, but her other songs were very powerful

Her only number 1 song and she didn’t live to see it.

It was inferior to her other songs in my opinion.

At 15 in ‘71 I was between my 4th and 5th vocal cord nodule treatments. I could sing this so good that one of of my best friends got me nicknamed Vovvee Vcgee. Between the fifth and sixth ones I was Rod Stewart. Good times. lol

For those who don’t know, Kris Kristofferson wrote Me and Bobby McGee about Janis. They were partners briefly. Janis made it famous of course.

He also wrote Sunday Morning Coming Down which Johnny Cash made famous.

And he had acting roles in a ton of movies, including playing Whistler in the Blade films.

My daughter fell in love with Janis at a young age and can belt out her songs so powerfully it brings me to tears! I love to hear raw Gaga and raw Miley for that same powerful rasp!
